Graphic Photos: 3 Heroic Iraqi Soldiers Jump On Man As He Triggers Vest
Reuters television footage showed a group of soldiers dancing in the street, waving their assault rifles in the air and chanting “Where is terrorism today?” moments before the bomb exploded.
Dude, those three guys are heroes, they saved countless lives…
“The blast happened as civilians were giving flowers to soldiers and sticking them in the muzzles of their guns,” recalled Mizban, an Iraqi national. “It was a jubilant scene.”
“These martyrs gave their lives so that others might live,” said Lt. Col. Steve Stover, a U.S. military spokesman.
BAGHDAD- Three Iraqi soldiers threw themselves on a suicide attacker wearing an explosives vest at an Army Day celebration Sunday—an act of heroism the U.S. said likely prevented many more deaths. Iraqi police said at least 11 people were killed in the blast, the deadliest in a series of bombings in Baghdad.
One of the attacks in the capital killed an American soldier—one of two U.S. deaths announced on Sunday.
Shortly before the bomber struck the Army Day festivities, about two dozen Iraqi soldiers were standing outside the offices of a local non- governmental agency pushing for unity in Iraq. The troops, their AK-47 rifles raised in the air, chanted pro-army slogans and a common anti- insurgent taunt: “Where are the terrorists today?”
“The blast happened as civilians were giving flowers to soldiers and sticking them in the muzzles of their guns,” recalled Mizban, an Iraqi national. “It was a jubilant scene.”
Afterward, he said, the street was littered with bodies, weapons and shoes. Dazed soldiers and policemen carried their bloodied colleagues to nearby pickup trucks that whisked them to a hospital.
Among the dead were four police officers, three Iraqi soldiers and four civilians, a police officer said on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to reporters. At least 17 people were injured.
“These martyrs gave their lives so that others might live,” said Lt. Col. Steve Stover, a U.S. military spokesman.

Yes, THESE WERE TRUE martyrs.
GOD bless them and throw open the doors to His Mansions for them.
The fake martyrs can just keep going to Hell to meet Allah and his 72 skanks.
January 6th, 2008 at 5:41 pmI agree these people were ACTUAL martyrs and not wannabe ones like the suicide bomber.
January 6th, 2008 at 6:18 pmGreater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.
January 6th, 2008 at 6:20 pmThese guys are the real Shaheen in Iraq. “Greater love hath no man than to give his life for a friend”.
Hope the murdering scum that did this likes the smell of sulphur and the feel of fire. No 72 virgins for this scuzzbucket.
January 6th, 2008 at 6:20 pmBash, where did you get these? Not to be a dick but those pictures look staged bro…
Not to doubt what the government is putting out or anything… the event may have actually happened - but every suicide bombing that I’ve ever seen the aftereffects of were much messier.
There are no body parts, blood, or gore, of the 11 that were killed and the bodies in these pictures are laying in way too natural of positions (and intact) for being recently blown up. The rifles in the picture don’t look like they’ve been blasted out of the hands of the soldiers by a guy in a suicide vest, the vehicles still have windshields in them and a blast of that size, THAT close would have blown them out…
The cars would have been covered with the remains of the bomber and the 3 guys that threw themselves on him, not to mention that the frag that was big enough to put holes that size in blacktop and twist the hood of that other car would probably have popped the tires and punched holes in the bodies of the truck.
You guys don’t really believe that these are real pictures do you? I’d love to be proven wrong about my suspicions, but that blast scene is way too clean.
January 6th, 2008 at 6:26 pmif you go to reuters you can see the vid kuffir ken
January 6th, 2008 at 7:42 pmNot to mention, there are different kinds of suicide vests. Remember the vid of that woman who used one that had a shaped charge on it, used to assassinate a particular official behind his desk. Very clean, no mess at all, despite the chick getting her back broken in half.
January 6th, 2008 at 8:12 pmThe effects of the explosion are dependent upon a number of factors.
1. The type and amount of explosive that was used.
2. The position of the bomber.
3. The shape of the bomb and focus of the blast; whether or not it’s shape-charge or just a basic bomb.
4. Any obstructions that might be in the the blast radius.
If the bomb was simply a belt of explosives, then it lacks a hard casing or shrapnel that can be turned into projectiles. The amount of explosive affects the radius of the blast and where the explosives are affect the direction (are they located on the front of the vest, or on the front and back?).
And depending upon how the vest is constructed, it may or may not be a shape charge. If it is, then the blast energy is more focused, but has a smaller area of effect. If it isn’t, then the blast area is larger, but the energy less focused.
The three soldiers subdued the bomber before he triggered the vest, so he may have been facing down, toward the asphalt, but struggling to get up. The three soldiers, the position of the bomber, and the location of the explosives change the shape of the blast wave, so that a person standing in front of them may have been cut down by the blast, but a person standing behind is simply rendered temporarily deaf with a bad headache.
As to the soldiers, a concussive blast can cause severe internal damage, while leaving few external signs of the injuries. The blast is spread across the surface area of the skin, which rest upon dense tissues–muscle, ligament, cartilage, subcutaneous fat–that are likely to retain their shape after bearing the brunt of overpressure. It’s the thin and fragile soft tissues of the internal organs that rupture and liquefy. And without shrapnel, there aren’t going to be any gaping wounds.
Also, there certainly are signs of blast damage. The windshield of the white truck is shattered (third photo down), with a hole punched through it (fifth photo down), along with the windshield of the black sedan (fifth photo). Further, the white truck clearly shows signs along it’s side of having taken the brunt of an impact. The question you posed, of course, is why there was wasn’t more damage to softer items like the windshields and tires.
Well, consider it. Tires are meant to cushion a multi-thousand pound vehicle traveling on a variety of terrains, with speeds that might exceed one hundred miles an hour. And it’s supposed to do this for thousands of miles. A windshield is heavy, laminated, impact-resistant glass that can absorb heavy strikes, like the impact of a flying human body. It would take a very large blast to knock them out entirely, at which point the entire top of the car cab would probably be taken off as well.
To make my point, you can watch the video of Female Tamil Suicide Bomber Detonates Bra Bomb, a story that was previously posted by Bash. The blast is powerful, knocking the female bomber back like a rag doll, but it’s also very localized, with the only severe physical damage being done to the desk right in front of her. Everyone that was to the side or behind was left alive.
But ask yourself, why would they pose those photos. Clearly the event happened, so we know that that wasn’t faked. So, why would they need to exaggerate it? What do they gain?

Yes, Pat addressed his own lingering medical problems just a few weeks ago from the explosions he was around while “on duty” with his Marines in theater in Iraq.
Apparently you think, “Whew! Dodged that one!” But the concussion is a silent ailment/killer. I certainly hope they are checking our guys for such hidden side effects/wounds after being around explosions. Probably not … duh!
BTW, I stand by my praise for these Iraqi men …
January 6th, 2008 at 8:38 pmSorry to PS, but I forgot to add something …
Back days before last Halloween my 69 yr. old Father took a nasty fall on his forehead on his driveway. He called me just before leaving with my step-brother for the ER … By the time I got to the ER his upper right quadrant of his face was swollen and literally filled with undrained blood. The nurse struggled to put the stitches in and close the gash. By nightfall his right eye was completely swollen shut and squeezed away under his dark purple brow … Over the course of the next few days the top half of his face turned nearly black (wish I could link to pictures of it for ya), and his other eyes was swollen to a slit … Jeez-uz! You’da thought someone took a bat to his head!
Anyhow, my point, my sisters and I suspect the impact was like that of an automobile head injury, as Dad has NOT been himself. My sister in Georgia (who is a doctor) thought he was in the early onset of Alzheimer’s. She’d ring me up after talking with him on the phone and bitch and complain about how disinterested he was in their phone convo … Yeah, ONE of the reasons WHY doctors should NOT treat family members. Then I realized, cripes! It’s from the fall! Now my two sisters, and me and my RN daughter who works in our hospital Neuro-Surg ICU are trying our damnedest to talk him into seeing a neurologist, but he keeps falling back on the CAT they did in the ER the day of the fall, and how there wasn’t anything wrong … then. But things happen inside the head in their own time … clots and bleeds and such.

January 6th, 2008 at 10:25 pmThe Reuter vid has the sound and the immediate aftermath of an obvious bomb attack. That clip of the Tamil bitch is a perfect example of how this particular device may have been designed.
David Marcoe nailed it.
January 6th, 2008 at 10:57 pmI agree these men are the exact definition of Matyrs.
January 6th, 2008 at 11:24 pmBut the tide is turning in our favor, and we should not loose sight of that.
These men are Muslim heroes.
January 7th, 2008 at 4:50 amGod bless them for their service and sacrifice to preserve the lives of the innocent. They are true heroes.
R.I.P.
January 7th, 2008 at 5:53 pmThanks all for the clarification. I was simply speaking from my own experience, not trying to stir up trouble. All of the vests that I’ve witnessed have involved more of a mess than was shown in these pictures. For a man who was blown to bits, tamped by 3 soldiers or not, there is a surprising lack of blood and pieces. I have never seen a bomber survive intact.
I’ve seen the video of the bra bomber and I understand blast dynamics and overpressure. Haven’t seen the video on Reuters, and not denying that the even took place, just that the presented documentation looked a little fishy.
