Polls And Pundits - What Went Wrong?
So, did Hillary getting all bleary-eyed in that diner swing the vote her way? Or what?
From an article by Michael Calderone in Politico.com:
Cable news pundits may have successfully predicted John McCain’s victory in New Hampshire, but they sure had a lot of explaining to do around 10:30 p.m., once The Associated Press and MSNBC projected victory for Hillary Rodham Clinton.
That’s because for the past 24 hours, the media has been incessantly replaying what was dubbed Clinton’s Muskie Moment.
It was in a New Hampshire diner that the New York senator either “cried,” “watered up,” “teared up,” “misted up,” “broke down” or offered an “emotional plea,” depending on which pundit you ask.
In the hours (and hours and hours) of coverage preceding the actual results, political analysts waxed on about Clinton dropping out, bypassing the next primary states or completely cleaning house in the campaign.
Either way you sliced it, the media said, this was not Bill Clinton in 1992: Hillary was no comeback kid.
However, the word “comeback” seemed to be on everyone’s lips Tuesday night, perhaps used more times than candidates uttered “change” in last weekend’s debates.
The word was first bestowed upon McCain, and a few hours later, to Clinton.
Brit Hume said New Hampshire made McCain the “comeback kid tonight for sure” when Fox News first called the election for him, at 8:10 pm.
Polls don’t mean shit. What? You need more proof than this? Don’t be a dipshit. Pollsters are crap-shooters.
January 9th, 2008 at 9:10 amI have never told a pollster the truth
January 9th, 2008 at 9:17 amThe pollsters’ model is off. They have models of voter turnout, and they need to be revamped. Turnout was an all time high in NH. Turnout of single women who usually don’t vote is what propelled Billary from an otherwise predicted defeat. These same women are the group that can elect her president if they turn out (if she is the dem nominee). If she turns out 20 million more voters than in 2004 (like the 20 million increase from 2000 to 2004), they will make her Pres. Where are the repub’s going to find more voters?
January 9th, 2008 at 9:29 amRe Lamplighter’s comment,
I heard a breakdown like that.
How insulting is it that women are deciding the vote on the crotch rather than the mind. Maybe we should repeal the 19th amendment.
January 9th, 2008 at 9:34 amHere’s an example of how fucked we are. An old lady in my building is gushing over this. Record, issues, trust, none of that matters. All that matters is electing a woman. Give Bin Laden a sex change operation and they’ll vote for him/her/it.
January 9th, 2008 at 9:37 amOh, yeah, the old lady was saying how Hillary will ‘take care’ of us.
That’s what I’m afraid of…
January 9th, 2008 at 9:38 amticticboom, scary isn’t it?
My grandmother, was scared that Dole was going to win and she would lose her soc sec and medicare because of the evil republicans, she died during the klinton administration and one thing I have never let go was that we found out she asked her home nurse what a ‘blow job’ was during the lewinsky debacle. What disgusting pieces of shit, the klintons, and I think the same of anyone who would vote for them.
January 9th, 2008 at 9:53 amI am a women and I would never vote for that bitch. You are right they are only voting for her because she is a women why else would anyone even consider her, but blacks are only voting for Obama because he is black. How could anyone consider voting for a piece of shit that will not respect our flag or national anthem? Not to mention his policy. I think it is scary if any of them get into office.
January 9th, 2008 at 10:33 amDon’t lump all women together if anyone tries to take the 19th amendment I will be using the 2nd.
@Wendy - I like your thinking
January 9th, 2008 at 10:40 amIt’s called “identity politics.” I know dem women who despise Billary for the same reason repub’s do–she acts like she’s entitled to the job. By the way, why do dems like Billary get away with outright lying about facts–from the 2006 CongressionalJoint Cmtee on Taxation, people with income under $40k pay no income taxes, and many of them, to the tune of $41 billion, get a check in the mail, having paid no tax (EITC). From the same statistics, from a Dem congress: people with incomes over $100k pay 82% of all income taxes. Under Bush tax cuts, 115 million middle/low income people had their taxes lowered, and 7.8 were dropped from the tax rolls. If the Bush tax cuts are expired, 7.8 million will start paying taxes again, and 115 million will get a tax hike. I am so sick of the Dem liars about taxes. Lie, lie, lie, lie, lie. If republicans lied like that, they’d get called out. Billary said she’s going to raise taxes on those making over $250k. Whatever. That category includes LLC’s and partnerships (small businesses) who create most of the jobs in this country. Not to mention, the dems keep crowing about corporations not paying their share. Well, they do get alot of corporate welfare (subsidies, etc), but on the corporate tax rate, the US is the highest of all our economic competitors. So good luck with that. Even socialist Spain is dropping their corporate rate to below ours.
January 9th, 2008 at 10:53 amA caller on Rush said that it appeared that a lot of out of state plates were seen around polling places
That makes sense to me, the democrats will do whatever they need to do to force neo-communism on us, they took the vote into court with gore and would have during the last general election if they had an opening.
remember vote early and often!
January 9th, 2008 at 11:09 amSteve in NC: remember vote early and often!
