Baaquba, Jan 22, (VOI) - Six persons from the same family were killed by unknown gunmen, who abducted them in Bahraz district, south of Baaquba, a police source said.

“Suspected al-Qaeda group waged an attack on Tuesday afternoon on the house of Faleh Zemam al-Eqabi, a citizen, in al-Nahr al-Kabier region in Bahraz district, south of Baaquba,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq - Voices of Iraq - (VOI) under condition of anonymity.

“The armed men kidnapped the man and five members of his family, including four of his sons, and took them to an unknown location,” he added.

“Their bodies were later found with signs of gunshot wounds to the different parts of the body,” he also said.

“The reason behind the attack was al-Eqabi and his sons’ participation with U.S. and Iraqi forces in fights against al-Qaeda,” the source explained.

Baaquba, the capital of Diala, lies 57 km northeast of Baghdad.
