Last 48 Hrs: Iraqi Security Forces Kill 6, Free 4 Captives, Arrest 218 Wanted Men
Baghdad, Jan 7- Iraqi security forces killed six gunmen, freed 4 captives, and detained 218 wanted men during combat operations in several parts of the Iraqi capital over the past 48 hours, the spokesman for Baghdad’s security plan Fardh al-Qanoon said on Friday.
“Under the security plan, Iraqi security forces killed two gunmen and found a weapons depot in southern Baghdad’s regions,” Brigadier Qassem Atta told the independent news agency Voices of Iraq (VOI) by phone.
“The forces freed a captive, arrested 170 wanted men, and defused a bomb in al-Rasafa,” the Brigadier highlighted.
“In al-Adhamiya in northern Baghdad, the forces detained seven wanted men and defused a bomb in al-Karada region in southwestern Baghdad,” he added.
“They released three captives and arrested seven wanted men in Sadr City in eastern Baghdad,” Atta explained.
“Six wanted men were captured in Abu Gharieb region, while seven suspected gunmen were captured in al-Ragi in northern Baghdad,” he noted.
“A weapons cache was discovered in al-Mahmoudiya region in southern Baghdad, three gunmen were gunned down, and an explosive charge was defused in al-Nahrawan region,” the brigadier pointed out.
The Iraqi government launched Fardh al-Qanoon plan in mid-February 2007 in a bid to fight gunmen in Baghdad and its surrounding areas.
