More Sunnis Blowing Up More Crowded Shia Mosques Ahead Of Ashura
Well, here’s something new….
Pakistan- A suspected Sunni extremist blew himself up inside a Shiite mosque, killing 11 people in the northwestern city of Peshawar. The strike late Thursday wounded 25 people, including a prominent Shiite cleric, ahead of this weekend’s Ashoura festival, which often is scarred by sectarian violence.

January 18th, 2008 at 5:08 pmShiite use Ashura as a day of rememberance for Husayn ibn Ali the grandson of Muhammad who was killed at the battle of Karbala (area in Iraq not Afghanistan)in 680AD. It is considered the start of the Shi’a branch of Islam.
Kinda reminds one of the violence that ensued between the Catholics and Protestants for so many years.
