Operation Heroes’ Harvest
Baaquba, Jan 8- Operation Heroes’ Harvest, waged Tuesday morning, will expand in the coming days to cover all regions in Diala, the command of the ground forces said on Tuesday.
“The operation will expand in the coming days to cover all regions and districts in Diala,” Lieutenant General Ali Ghedan told the independent news agency Voices of Iraq (VOI).
“The operation will be implemented in stages to hunt down al-Qaeda gunmen in the province and securing other adjoining provinces,” he explained.
“The operation came after the six-month security operation Arrowhead Ripper in the province,” he added.
Diala has been the scene of a security operation codenamed Arrowhead Ripper since mid June by Iraqi and U.S. forces with the aim of tracking down armed groups spreading through a number of areas in the province.
The governor of Diala province had said earlier that a joint Iraqi-U.S. force waged Operation Heroes’ Harvest on Tuesday with the objective of tracking down operatives of al-Qaeda network in the district of al-Muqdadiya.
“Muqdadiya, (45 km) northeast of Baaquba, has witnessed a several days’ military operation to purge the district of al-Qaeda members under the codename Heroes’ Harvest,” Raad Rashid al-Mullah said in statements to the (VOI).
Baaquba, the capital of Diala province, lies 57 km northeast of Baghdad.
