Video: Fred Whips Huckabee’s Ass, Calls Him A Democrat

January 11th, 2008 Posted By Pat Dollard.

Washington Times:

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — Fred Thompson accused Mike Huckabee of being a threat to the Reagan Republican coalition, Mitt Romney said John McCain is ignoring the needs of Michigan voters, and Rudolph W. Giuliani said Mr. McCain isn’t the only pro-Iraq-surge candidate.

Last night’s Republican presidential debate in South Carolina reflected just how chaotic the contest has become, with candidates squaring off against opponents they view as their biggest obstacles to the nomination in the upcoming primaries here, in Michigan and in Florida.

Mr. Thompson took a direct shot at Mr. Huckabee, pointing to his tax increases as governor of Arkansas and to his plan to sign a nationwide public smoking ban, his endorsement by the National Education Association and his pledge to close the terrorist detention center at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, as evidence he is not in the Ronald Reagan mold.

“So much for federalism. So much for states’ rights. So much for individual rights,” said Mr. Thompson, a former Tennessee senator. “That’s not the model of the Reagan coalition. That’s the model of the Democratic Party.”

Mr. Huckabee, rather than following his usual strategy of pointing to taxes he did cut, instead defended the tax increases, saying they produced results that can be measured in the state’s better roads and better schools.

“What I did was I governed,” said Mr. Huckabee, who served for more than 10 years as governor.

Mr. Thompson’s criticism underscores his fight with Mr. Huckabee for conservative voters here in South Carolina, which holds its Republican primary Jan. 19.

Mr. Romney, who has put all of his effort into winning Michigan’s primary on Tuesday, went right at Mr. McCain, the Arizona senator who is his biggest obstacle to winning that state. The former Massachusetts governor criticized Mr. McCain for saying some manufacturing jobs that Michigan has lost are never going to come back.

“I disagree — I’m going to fight for every single job,” Mr. Romney said.

Mr. McCain responded that Mr. Romney’s answer didn’t meet the standard of “straight talk.”

“One of the reasons why I won in New Hampshire is I went there and told them the truth,” he said, adding that he stands by his evaluation that some jobs lost in Michigan and other states won’t come back.

For his part, Mr. Giuliani, the former New York City mayor, is ignoring both of those states to focus on Florida’s Jan. 29 primary.

That leaves Mr. Huckabee and Mr. McCain — the winners respectively of Iowa’s caucuses and New Hampshire’s primary — as the candidates expecting to compete across the board.

Mr. McCain already appeals to independents and many more liberal Republicans and is trying to make his case to conservative voters. Mr. Huckabee, meanwhile, appeals to religious conservatives but is trying to prove that his support goes beyond evangelical voters.

Mr. Giuliani, competing with Mr. McCain for independents and liberal Republicans, chided the Arizona senator last night for describing himself as the only candidate who opposed the initial Bush strategy in Iraq and consistently called for a surge in troops.

“John, there were other people on this stage who supported the surge,” Mr. Giuliani said.

The candidates all agreed that the coalition of former President Ronald Reagan has broken up and needs to be put back together, and all of them said the key is to return to tax cuts, spending cuts and a tough defense policy.

Mr. McCain also found himself on the defensive over his authorship of a plan to grant a path to citizenship to most illegal aliens. He said he now thinks that the borders should be secured first and 2 million criminals deported, but other illegal aliens should be handled “in a humane and compassionate fashion.”

Mr. Romney said all of the candidates support secure borders, but the difference comes over how to handle the current illegal-alien population.

“We all agree that anybody who’s committed a crime should be sent home, but I believe that the others who’ve come here illegally should stand in line with everybody else who wants to come to this country and should not be given a special pathway or a special privilege,” he said, drawing applause.

It was an evening of tough talk, particularly about Iran. The candidates said Iran was lucky that it didn’t escalate this week’s confrontation between Iranian gunboats and a U.S. Navy ship any further.

“I think one more step, and they would have been introduced to those virgins they’re looking forward to seeing,” Mr. Thompson said.

“Don’t think this wasn’t a serious situation of the utmost seriousness,” Mr. McCain said.

But Rep. Ron Paul said the other candidates were overblowing the situation.

“People are looking around for an excuse to bomb Iran,” the Texas congressman said, adding that he didn’t think the Iranian boats posed much of a threat to the Navy ship.

That drew a bitter retort from Mr. Romney: “I think Congressman Paul should not be reading as many [Iranian President Mahmoud] Ahmadinejad press releases.”

Mr. Paul scored a victory just by being on the stage for the debate, sponsored by the Fox News Channel and the South Carolina Republican Party. Fox excluded him from the debate that it sponsored Sunday in New Hampshire.

The Ron Paul Blimp, a project of his supporters, was also floating over the city yesterday.

Damn what a smackdown !! Totally owned by Fred!

One thing Hucks or any other Liberal will never get their dirty little hands on and tax, or ever shelter from IS a BIG CAN of 100% unadulterated TRUE CONSERVATIVE WHUP-ASS!!

.. and there Ain’t no cure for FDT WHUP-ASS either, once delivered, that stinging sensation in the nether regions lasts forever - that is unless Fred decides to come up with an antidote, which he won’t.

  2. Irish Gal

Fred’s got the fire in his belly. ’bout time. Huckstable is toast. It’s gotta be Fred but I’m still not totally convinced. Talk is cheap. What’s his agenda. What’s anyone’s agenda?

  5. bill-tb

Good debate, Fred owned the floor.

  6. Indy

F in A Bubba. Fred is absolutely right. The Huckster is a liberal through and through. He’s in the pocket of LULAC, and I wouldn’t trust him as far as I could throw him.

  7. sal

    ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!! that was nice

  8. newhumandesign

It’s good to see this from Fred. He’s my guy, definitely, for me, the best candidate without question. He’s got actual policy proposals lined up, such as 100 government programs he’d like to eliminate. Compare that to the Dems. LOL. CHANGE! What exactly does that mean?

    GO FRED!

  9. Gary in Midwest

If all you want in a president is to be experienced, consistant, honest, intelligent, informed, practical, fair & moral, Fred is your man. If you want the cafe plan of this, you can get 4 or 5 out of the preceding 8 traits with any of the other candidates.

  10. ticticboom

Mmmmm, this red meat is delicious.

  11. Indy

It just drives me nuts to see these RINOS out in front of FRED. Clearly he is the best of the Bunch, and the only other one close to Fred is Hunter. Why can’t conservatives see that he is the only thing closest to a true conservative out there.Every time I think of the Huckster and that racist org. LULAC he panders to, it makes me sick.

That was a good segment. I like FT. But will he win the nomination? Don’t think so. Will he win in SC? Maybe.

It is possible that after the SC election we still won’t have a front-runner.

Can Huckleberry win in SC? Yep. Could McCain? Yep.

It’s even possible after Super Tuesday, that no front-runner will emerge.

That’s because each of the candidates (minus Paul) has some redeeming qualities IMHO. But there is no one candidate that has all of those qualities.

Hopefull the electorate will nominate or elect someone who best represents the Republican party and is electable.

Whether or not Hilda or Osama get the Dhimi nod, whomever Repubs choose will have to be able to defeat them in a general election.

Who that candidate is at the moment is a matter of opinion.
I don’t pay any mind to polls. I pay more attention to the Dhimis and Repubs that I know as my bellweather.

I can tell you this much, I’ve never seen so many Dhimis who absolutely hate Osama and Hilda. Many of them want a Lieberman.

It bodes well for the Repubs in ‘08 IMHO.

  13. Dannyboy

It needed to be said. It’s the truth–Mike Huckabee is the biggest lib on that stage.

  14. Trindam

Ya!! Go Fred, lay the whoopass down.

I really enjoyed seeing him do that. Fred is my vote, I hope he didn’t pick it up to late.

  15. mess

Refreshing. Finally, a politician that has the balls to come out and call someone who and what they are.

The smack down was pretty cool too. Gotta love the delivery.
