something is wrong with the clip-stops and restarts in the middle.

I get the point-I think that what happend to all was tragic-it’s just that while the soldiers deserved to be well known, they were not. I knew someone would make this comparison sooner or later.

I didn’t watch the clip. I don’t pay attention to the Hollywood elites. Sorry they guys dead but his death shouldn’t draw more “Entertainment Value” to his career. He made movies. He didn’t change the world.

The true hero’s of our lives are the men and woman who SELFLESSLY put their lives on the line day in and day out to ensure the people in Hollywood to become actors and put out any movie they like. The very people who PROTECT our constitution and Hollywood’s “FREEDOM” to put out what they like.

The term American Pop Culture cracks me up to. How much “Culture” is there in sitting on your couch, living vicariously through your TV?

I guess I’m one of “Those” people that just doesn’t get it.
    Or maybe I do.

I’ll second LftBhndAgn’s post. I made a similar post on a different forum when whats-her-face…Anna Nicole Smith died last year. It was such pathetic event which the media had to blow completely out of proportion. I guess it was Anna’s reward for being so damn rich. The farther up you climb, the bigger the splash when you fall.

Naturally she was an invaluable piece of our American culture, a culture which I have very selectively chosen to buy into. Many people are far less selective and shovel it the way some people eat their super-sized Big Macs. Culture usually involves activity, not passivity. People MAKE culture (think either Italian or Harlem Renaissances). They don’t WATCH “culture” happening. This “culture” lacks much when it is no longer constructed by the overwhelming talent of artists (of every stripe) like Louis Armstrong, Michelangelo, Gustav Mahler, etc. Culture is now factory stamped and “Made in China” tagged.

Without real culture, I would argue that we have lost a defining reason to be proud of ourselves. Rather, we see ourselves beating ourselves up in a fashion somewhat reminiscent of the Plagues of the Middle Ages. If we had our pride back, we would be unified and unafraid to really confront our Islamic problem. We wouldn’t have to stop and have a pity party every time we dropped a terrorist. WHERE IS THE PRIDE WHICH MADE AMERICA?!!

IMHO you definitely “get it” LBA.

Pop culture is just that, alot of pop, but no culture. Im the descendents of immigrants from the once great ottoman empire. an empire that invaded and subjugated Christians for centuries, and when my Christian ancestors came to America, our last name was changed from the turkish Serour, to the English/Greek Alexander. From day one we were Americans and my parents and grandparents instilled those values in me. i’m just a guy in my 20’s but i feel like whenever i go out i should be hanging with the 50-60 year old crowd, what the hell has happened to my country? I hope Heath Ledger gets the peace in death he couldnt find in life, but dammit, there is a war going on and the public doesnt give a bloody shit. where is John Wayne when you need him?….wait, we got Pat fucking Dollard, whew, i was worried for a second!

I really don’t care that Heath Ledger is dead except for the fact that there may be issues with the release of “Dark Knight”.

Ledger was a typical hollywood moonbat. He had stardom, fame, money, a bright future and he was still somehow miserable. We should feel sorry for him?

I can’t but agree with you ; the immediat consummation of pics gives hard time to make one’s mind reflect on their sense ; their messages have gone blurred alike fugitive sensations ; instead of conforting us in a moral understanding of life, zombie behaviours are our lot ; I expect that will not stop soon ; we are becoming “slaves” alike in a Plato underworld

It is amazingly how civilians treat these actors like they are royalty! And for what reason for?!! We have to STOP treating these actors like Kings and Queens and stop going or buying their movies when they start acting like “A-Holes” (Sean Penn and Brittney Spears are good example). I am very sorry that Heath Ledger died. He was a good actor but that all what he is folks a A C T O R! When you have good people joining the military and putting their a$$ on the line these are the people I put on the pedestal! And my Son is one that I put on the highest pedestal then any of these so called famous entertainment people. For he is in Iraq doing what almost NONE OF THEM ARE DOING! Taking the fight over there so it won’t COME HERE!

It not only amazing how civilians treat the artists as royalty, but how the artists think of themselves as royalty.

Considering that, if you look at most if not all cultural revolutions you can see why Artists (which actors are) are reeducated or eliminated.

  11. franchie

I wouldn’t say that actors are artists, just a few of them that have some inspiration : alike
Marlon Brando, Al pacino, Robert de Niro… (funny, I am almost finding latin types of guys  )… the biggest part of them are of the “saltimbanque” crew !

otherwise, as far as another symbolic revolution, burning the 50 starred flag is quite in today

  12. Paselode

But franchie, stage and screen actors do consider themselves associated with ‘The Arts’ whether you or I consider their work as art is another question.

  13. franchie

yeah, some even consider that they are politically skilled

Where isTeam America World Police when you need them…..
