ATTENTION ALL LAWYERS!!
January 28th, 2008 at 8:57 amActually, I’ve found it doesn’t stop cars that are already running, but it will screw with new cars with RF keys. It’s a gadget that won’t let the engine start unless it has a chip embedded in the key. Remote entry usually won’t work, either.
I once had to help push a friend’s car around the block until it was out of line of sight of the antennae before she could start it.
January 28th, 2008 at 9:03 amIt would take all of 5 minutes with a spectrum analyzer and an antenna to tell you if it was RF coming from the building or elsewhere. If It’s an RF issue at all.
January 28th, 2008 at 9:12 amAll of the RF energy saturates the recievers on the RF keys and keyless entry.

I’m with you on this one…..!
I’m surprised anything having to do with RF works down there in an EMI/RFI saturated area such as central NY.
There’s all manner of RF noise and interference, everything from cellular, trunking, paging, WIFI’s and wireless phones including RFID transcievers embedded into doorways and security accesses, that could interfere with security key systems in cars and other vehicles.
Downtown NY must be a nightmare of EMI/RFI interference!!!!
January 28th, 2008 at 9:51 amIt’s gotten even worse since 9/11. All the stuff that was on the tower had to be moved to the Empire State Building, which is shorter and right in the middle of everything. It’s also in a low spot, building-wise, in Manhattan, so there aren’t that many tall structures around it to mitigate the problem. The business and financial districts are where the bedrock is at or just below the surface, so that’s where the skyscrapers are built. They had to excavate five or six stories of dirt and reroute an underground stream to lay the foundations of the ESB.
