Huckabee definitely has the "buddy" appeal to him. It's maybe just more of a white-collar friend deal.

I'm actually a little uneasy as to who will be the next leader of our country - none of the candidates really appeal to me. Or at least the apparent front-runners.

Yeah i have got that vibe from him from the start. he seems very down to earth. Doesnt seem to have ever let the success he has had in life make him a different person. He has been a great leader and Im feeling pretty bad right now knowing that was his last state of the union. Hopefully President Romney will be a leader like that.

Damn right. I watched a special on FOX News last night with Bret Baier interviewing Bush mostly filmed at the ranch. Great insight/great interview/great man.

Meanwhile for some contrast (both political and personal) - The Congress-controlling dems invited al jazeera to the front row of the press pool for their response to Bush's State of the Union Speech. I wonder which American media outlet had to take a back seat to these jihadist sympathizers? I wonder how are troops feel about this?

About two months after Katrina hit the Gulf Coast, I was at a lumber yard in Baton Rouge getting materials to repair some damage down in NOLA. While standing in line I struck up a conversation with a young couple waiting in line with me. Just so happens that the hubby was in the USCG stationed in NOLA. He and his wife had just moved into a new home 5 miles from the water in Slidell, LA, 30 days before the storm hit. They were two hours away getting materials to begin rebuilding their flooded home. They were not bitter.

The hubby volunteered that he had met GW personally during a visit to their station. In speaking with the guys who in 24 hrs had saved more people than the entire USCG saves in a year, he was personable, gave firm handshakes to each and every member, looked everyone in the eye, and gave a real honest thank you eye to eye to each member.

The member of the USCG told me straight up that he had more confidence in GW than any who had ever commanded him. He said firmly that he found in Bush someone who he could trust in every command that he issued. Now I do believe that that is about as high a praise that anyone in uniform could give.

And for some contrast to highlight Bash's analogy the dem-controlled Congress unilaterally decided to move al jazeera to the front row of the press pool to cover the dem response to Bush's State of the Union speech tonight. I wonder how the American media outlet that had to give up their place for these jihadist propagandists feel about this dem decision? I wonder how our troops feel? I don't wonder if the dems in Congress even give a damn.

God bless you Dubya and thank you for keeping our nation terrorisism free post 9/11 -- rational thinking Americans will forever be grateful.

Oh. I thought you were going to say "Principles." That's what Bush has that none of the candidates have. Principles, and the stones to stick to those principles no matter how he's portrayed.

Totaly agree. He's got his problems but I like him as a person. That is how you have to judge canidates, not by policy and words but the person behind the policies. Anyone can say anything to get elected, I have to trust the person running. I have my differences with him but I trust him to do what he believes to be RIGHT. I only wish he would have spent more time telling us all like it is, he has remained far too quiet these past years.

All in all I like him.

I feel like 1/20/09 will be the sun setting on another great era (yes, GREAT) in American history. President Bush is amazing and I already miss him. I pray fervently for this country, and I am so grateful I had the deep honor of voting for that man. What will we do when he joins the ranks of former presidents?

Cheers, Mr. President.

President Bush has definitely got the "Buddy" appeal. With super Tuesday only a week away, I'm still not sure who to vote for. No one looks like a winner to me.

I especially liked President Bushes comment tonight:

"Unless the Congress acts, most of the tax relief we have delivered over the past 7 years will be taken away. Some in Washington argue that letting tax relief expire is not a tax increase. Try explaining that to 116 million American taxpayers who would see their taxes rise by an average of $1,800. Others have said they would personally be happy to pay higher taxes. I welcome their enthusiasm, and I am pleased to report that the IRS accepts both checks and money orders."

Hang on to your pants everyone. And I mean Dem's, Republicans and anyone in between. The next 4 years are going to be suck ass. When President Bush said this, he wasn't kidding. Be prepared to be taxed up the ass.

Nobody but W could have stood the withering criticism of the lefties and surrender monkeys ever since Iraq started to go south. They dumped on him without mercy, in denial about their own part in the invasion.

All the while, our President kept moving the ball down the field, killing jihadis and covering U.S.(energy)interests OVER THERE.

You're damn right history will vindicate him. We will miss George W. Bush plenty.

When Dims and some feckless Republicans remind me of Bush's current "approval" rating, I am always quick to remind them of two things:

(1) The Congressional rating is twice as low
(2) Harry Truman was a very unpopular President when he left office. Years later, even Republicans admit the man had guts and most like myself admire him.

We would be foolish to think poorly of George Bush and history will prove me right. I will always like him for no other reasons than he was moral, definitely had iron 'nads and most importantly, he gave us what appears to be two very good SCOTUS. For that reason alone, I always cut him some slack.

Great post and great comments. I've always been proud of my two votes for W, but only recently been comfortable telling other people so. Do I agree with every decision he's made? No. But looking at the candidates today, I recognize how unique W is.

I hope this isn't too much of a knock-on-wood situation, but I suspect Bush will look pretty favorable in retrospect. I definetely won't forget the shrill disdain and hatred he endured.

 GW

Great post and great comments. I’ve always been proud of my two votes for W, but only recently been comfortable telling other people so.
-----------------------------------------------------

Sort of similar ...

ALWAYS been proud of my two votes for the man ... But have ALWAYS been strident and unapologeticly vocal in admitting I voted for him. When "countered" by the opposition who feel the need to diminish the man and my votes I always return with, "Gore and Kerry??? You're fucking kidding, right?"

A couple years ago my middle daughter was still in high school. My kids have always made a Christmas list in order of priority, and we have selected a couple gifts from those lists. What does it say about a man when a high school junior (girl, no less) has three (good) books written about Pres. GWBush as her first three requests at the top of her Christmas list? While my older daughter was able to vote for Bush in the 2004 election, my middle daughter will forever be regretful she was never able to (she had high hopes for this presidential election that she is old enough to now vote in for Rudy G.,her second hero ... but don't look so good ...)

Here's a blog article I always re-visit on 9-11 ... and whenever I start feeling the slings and arrows that are thrown at Pres. George W. Bush (It really puts it all in perspective):

I voted for the man in Texas, and I would love to be able to vote for him again.
I don't understand why he can take a stand against the demoshits where defending the war is concerned, and then seemingly do little to guarantee that the border is as secured as we want it to be. And don't bring back the amnesty bullshit--that dog won't hunt today, tomorrow, or ever.

I've used the exact same words many times myself. Thanks for sharing the article... and thanks for raising kids obviously worthy of being Americans.
