Babel Suicide Blast Kills 40 Wounds Over 60
Babel, Feb 24 – Casualties from Sunday’s earlier suicide bombing attack north of Hilla rose to 40 deaths and 60 injured, a security source from Babel police said, adding the number is likely to go up due to the serious condition of some of the wounded.
“A suicide bomber detonated his explosive belt amongst a group of Shiite pilgrims heading from Baghdad to Karbala in the Hettin residential compound in al-Iskandariya district, (60 km) north of Hilla, leaving 40 people killed and 60 others wounded,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq – Voices of Iraq –on condition of anonymity.
Earlier on Sunday a police source said the blast left twenty people were killed and 40 others wounded.
Hilla, the capital of Babel, lies 100 km south of Baghdad.
