UPDATE: One Pilot Has Died: Two F-15’s Collide Over Gulf Of Mexico
Boy, wonderful news of the missile hitting the satellite and then this…Fox is reporting that one of those pilots has died.
More as we get it…
MIAMI — Two fighter pilots are missing after their jets collided in mid-air off the Florida Panhandle Wednesday during a training mission.
Search and rescue teams are en route to the crash while the conditions of the two pilots is unknown.
The two F-15 C Eagle fighter jets disappeared about 3 p.m. ET off the Florida Panhandle over the Gulf of Mexico, said Eglin Air Force Base spokesman Sgt. Brian Jones.
The Coast Guard sent three helicopters, a plane and two boats to the scene.
“We don’t know what led to the disappearance,” said Master Sgt. Andrew Leonhard, an Air Force spokesman. “We had no contact from the pilots.”
The crash occurred about 50 miles south of Tyndall Air Force Base.
Nods to Kurt.
We need to buy way more F-22’s. We’ve lost quite a few F-15’s this year, damn.
February 20th, 2008 at 3:32 pmIndeed, plus the more Raptors bought, the more cost-effective.
February 20th, 2008 at 3:38 pmThe F-15 has had an excellent history, but it’s been in service beyond the term planned for it. Not a good recent history for the Eagle.
I agree. they have been in service for a very long time. seems to be past due
Still such a beautifully lethal aircraft. i love them

February 20th, 2008 at 9:34 pmsorry to hear about the second pilot.
I thought they withdrew the F-15 from service because of problems with the air frame falling apart due to shear age (wings separating from the fuselage)
February 20th, 2008 at 9:46 pmSorry about the other pilot but glad that one made it.
