Dad Shoots Road Rager That Followed His Daughters Home
Murder? Fuck that, you follow my daughter home with evil intentions, buddy, and one way or another I will take care of business.
Charges should be dropped in this case.
A Georgia man was arrested for murder after he allegedly shot and killed a motorcyclist who he said was following his teenage daughters home from a Target store, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.
Richard Harold Gear’s two daughters, ages 17 and 19, called their 45-year-old father from their cell phones to tell him they were being followed, the paper reported.
When they got home their father was at the end of their driveway with a pistol, police told the newspaper.
Gear allegedly shot his .40-caliber semiautomatic gun two or three times at Bryan Joseph Mough, 21, after he drove past the house, turned around and made another pass, the Journal-Constitution reported.
The teens said they made obscene gestures at Mough after he cut them off, adding at one point he ran into their car, the newspaper reported.
Police told the newspaper there is evidence of a collision between the vehicle and the motorcycle, but they haven’t been to determine who initiated it.

oh shit, i used to do this with my friends. We didn’t stalk teenage girls, but when we would be on the road during the night and some guy would flip us off or cut us off, we’d scare the shit out of him by just calmly following him back to his house and making a pass. Er…
February 28th, 2008 at 1:07 pmLet him off? Bull shit. Hang his ass. The dude never got off his bike apparently, never threatened anyone physically, but gets killed because some cracker didn’t like his looks.
February 28th, 2008 at 1:20 pmGeez … In high school me and da’ girls used to ride around all night in the car, and there were times a car full of ‘unknown’ guys would tail us around … Sometimes some would get a little reckless on back/country roads trying to catch-up (I had a lead-foot … still do) or ride along side (usually to shove a bare ass out one of the windows at us (like we ain’t seen THAT before) … or spray our car down with a shaken bottle of beer) … but it was always just screwing around, that often led to pulling over to bullshit. Some were nice enough … Others were just dumb-shit jerks (you could tell in less than ten minutes which) and we’d leave.
This was just crazy … all the way around.
February 28th, 2008 at 1:22 pmCharges should be dropped? Are you serious?! The dad was an idiot. You don’t take stuff like this into your own hands…that’s why we have police. Now if the guy on this motorcycle has a gun or came up to the house with a weapons and threatened them, then maybe. But that didn’t happen.
February 28th, 2008 at 1:31 pmI have to agree w/ Gramps. If that guy didn’t do anything but follow them, the use of deadly force is NOT justified. Protect your family, absolutely, but as far as gunning him down, he was wrong and should go to jail.
Guys like that are why we have these gun control debates in the first place. It makes it tougher for the responsible gun owners.
February 28th, 2008 at 1:40 pmProof that cell phones can kill. Atta Dad!!
February 28th, 2008 at 1:41 pmGramps, Kevin…
Lighten up…
The guy ran into the girl’s car, then followed them home, teenage girls tend to get hysterical.
When a guy rams into a cop car, he gets shot.
My daughters come home screaming, crying, saying the guy in the motorcycle rammed into them and I see evidence of such?
And then the guy follows them all the way home? This day and age?
I’ll concede, deadly force was more than likely not justified, but the Dad in me kicked up and I gave a knee-jerk opinion.
But none of us were there and so none of us know the circumstances, we have limited information.
I have a daughter, and I would use force if I felt that her safety was threatened by a stranger in a case of road rage.
You guys have daughters?
February 28th, 2008 at 1:46 pm“Gramps, Kevin…

Unless you have some new information that comes after the police report, there was a collision of some type, but the cops haven’t determined who hit who. The one teen age girl was 19 that’s an adult in most states.
HANG HIS ASS!
February 28th, 2008 at 1:57 pmI highly doutbt the guy on the motorcycle was just camly driving back and forth infront of the guys house. If he was making verbal threats to physically harm or kill him or his daughters I have no problem with the guy airing the fucker out.
Again, we don’t know all the details, but I can see how this guy got what was coming to him if certain things hold true. I find it really hard to believe the guy just shot him for no good reason at all.
February 28th, 2008 at 2:00 pm“You guys have daughters?”
Yes I do, and I also own several guns. That still doesn’t give me the right to shoot someone who drives by my house and doesn’t threaten me or mine in any way.
I know the investigation is still on going, but what if the girls cut off the biker? That happens frequently. And was just following them home to talk with them and tell them to be more careful? Yeah, I know…. KILL HIS DUMB ASS!
February 28th, 2008 at 2:01 pmI have a 19-year-old daughter and I would be super-pissed if that was my kid. I would not, however, have shot the bastard. I would have tried to get his license plate number and called the police to file a complaint. He didn’t deserve to die.
Having said that, had he harmed my daughter in any way, especially murder, rape, molestation, etc. I would exact a measure of revenge that would make the towel-heads envious.
Does anyone remember the guy who waited at the airport at a pay phone while the cops brought his son’s perverted molester back for trial? The film was on all the news stations back in the 80’s. As the cops passed the dad with the perp in between them, the dad turned, pulled out his pistol and put one in the back of the perverts head.
I do not remember if the dad was put away or if he was even prosecuted. Anyone remember?
February 28th, 2008 at 2:05 pmHard to believe that the motorcycle ran into the car on purpose. Bikers generally steer away from cars b/c they’re much bigger (its like bringing a knife to a gunfight).
I’m thinking the the girls hit / bumped into the guy on the motorcycle (may have almost caused him to crash) and thats why he was following them home.
Difficult to determine now, with the motorcyclist dead
February 28th, 2008 at 2:09 pmI’ll chime in once more then I got to get back to work, Pat’ll be crackin’ the whip here pretty soon…
I hear the arguments for restraint, and perhaps I flew off the handle with my initial extreme comment.
That being said.
You take your chances when you follow a couple of teenage girls home who have cell phones and there’s tension in the air.
You never know what awaits you. It might be someone like that Dad. Or worse…
..someone like me.
February 28th, 2008 at 2:20 pmYeah the whole bit about the motorcyclist running into the girls car….I have to raise the bullshit flag on that one. As someone who rides a motorcycle I don’t see it happening. I wish I had a dime for every time some jackass in a car has cut me off because they “couldnt see” me. Two girls 17 and 19? hmmmmmmmmmm sounds like they arent telling the whole story or they are full of shit or both. Their story just doesnt make sense. I would be willing to bet it was them who hit this kid and he got pissed, as would anyone, they phoned their dad after they realized what they did and made up some bullshit meanwhile the motorcyclist is dead…..sounds more plausible to me.
February 28th, 2008 at 2:44 pmBash,
I’m 70 years old and have been riding motorcycles since I was 13. I’m one of very few guys I know that ride who has never been involved in a wreck with another vehicle, but I have been run out of my lane, or off the road on numerous occasions. Always seemed to be caused by inattentive drivers in cars or trucks.
As someone else here stated, motorcycles seldom run into cars or trucks, a 600 lb bike can’t compare to a 3000 lb or larger vehicle. Do some research & you’ll find that most biker accidents are caused by driver of cars/trucks turning in front of a bike. They seem to think that you can stop on a dime even going 65 MPH.
February 28th, 2008 at 2:45 pmFrom the Atlanta paper.
“him and Mough ran into their car at one point, Sheriff Berry said.
“There is evidence of a collision between Mough’s motorcycle and the vehicle operated by Gear’s daughters,” Berry said, adding authorities do not yet know who initiated contact.
“We’ve got questions about how it happened,” he said.”
I would certainly hope they have lots of questions.

The guys name was Gary Plauche. His son was molested and then kidnapped by his Karate teacher. After they arrested the perv the Dad found out when they would be returning and was waiting at the airport. He was at a payphone and as they passed with the perv he turned around and shot him. He was not found “Not Guilty”! He plead “No contest” to manslaughter and was sentenced to hard time..suspended to 5 years probation and 300 hours of community service.
February 28th, 2008 at 4:38 pmGramps is right. This is a hanging offense. Mr. Biker might have deserved a lesson in civics and a kick in the ass for scaring the girls, but to end up dead on such frivolous “evidence.” Lighten up yourself! This is the kind of shit that gives the anti-gunners a goddamned good case for their cause. The girls’ Dad is an asshole who just killed some kid for no good reason.
Hang him!
February 28th, 2008 at 5:08 pmUnless there’s more than what’s in the story, I gotta say this is a bad shoot. That said, you can always count on the media to fuck up a story, especially one involving violence.
February 28th, 2008 at 5:11 pmJarhead68
He was aquitted, and I believe the reason was temporary insanity.
February 28th, 2008 at 5:23 pm“Bash (the infidel)
Gramps, Kevin…
Lighten up…”
I recall seeing Gramps’ post, but who was the “Kevin” of whom you wrote?
Nobody named Kevin wrote anything prior to your defense of your position.
Rather curious.
February 28th, 2008 at 5:28 pmAnyone who has taken a concealed weapon class should know that this is not what should have happened. If the guy was trying to run over dad or hit him with the bike then maybe taking a shot would be justified. The dad escalated when he shouldn’t have.
February 28th, 2008 at 5:36 pmYou only use deadly force when it is justified. That includes preventing a rape or defending against a burglar or defending yourself against someone who also is trying to kill you or someone else.
In this case the dad used force in excess of what was necessary. I would have brought my gun too. But I would have kept it concealed, while dialing 9-11 and used it only if deadly force (such as trying to run me over with a car) was used against me or my family.
Now if this “stalker” had been stalking my kids over a long period of time and I was unable to stop him through the justice system, then I would have just beat the shit out of him. Such appears to not be the case here.
Sorry pops…to jail you go…Do not collect 200 dollars, don’t pass “Go”.
February 28th, 2008 at 6:29 pmGlad to see the majority of the folks here not defending the fathers overzealous and criminal reaction. It’s a scary country where you can get shot and killed without really doing anything but “creeping out” a couple of teenage girls. If there was an accident of any kind, what the motorcyclist did wasn’t wrong at all. Trading insurance information is the proper protocol, no matter whose fault it was. This being two teenage girls, you can probably ascertain who was most likely at fault. And if this is the case, then they were fleeing the scene of an accident, and guilty of a crime.
February 28th, 2008 at 10:03 pmI would have clothes lined him. More fun!
February 29th, 2008 at 4:55 amI agree w/TJ, a good clothes line or a pole tossed through the front wheel would have relayed the proper message.
February 29th, 2008 at 8:00 amOne’s things for sure, regardless of our views. Everyone on this board is glad to not be the dead guy or the jailed dad!!!!
March 13th, 2008 at 10:33 amAs long as he didn`t shoot the bike, just the rider, I can live with it….
