Doctor Arrested In Mentally Retarded Bomber Girls Case

The acting director of a Baghdad psychiatric hospital has been arrested on suspicion of supplying al-Qaeda in Iraq with the mentally impaired women that it used to blow up two crowded animal markets in the city on February 1, killing about 100 people.

Iraqi security forces and US soldiers arrested the man at al-Rashad hospital in east Baghdad on Sunday. They then spent three hours searching his office and removing records. Sources told The Times that the two women bombers had been treated at the hospital in the past.

“They [the security forces] arrested the acting director, accusing him of working with al-Qaeda and recruiting mentally ill women and using them in suicide bombing operations,” a hospital official said.

Ibrahim Muhammad Agel, director of the hospital, was killed in the Mansour district of Baghdad on December 11 by gunmen on motorbikes. Colleagues suspect that he was shot for refusing to cooperate with al-Qaeda. Even before Sunday’s arrest, US officials believed that al-Qaeda was scouring Iraq’s hospitals for mentally impaired patients whom it could dupe into acting as suicide bombers. They said that al-Qaeda had used the mentally impaired as unwitting bombers before. “We have fairly good reason to believe this is not the first time they have recruited mentally handicapped individuals,” said one senior officer, though he did not think there had been more than half a dozen cases.

The attraction of mentally impaired women to al-Qaeda was obvious, he said. Being women they could get close to targets with less chance of being stopped or searched; being mentally impaired, they were “less likely to make a rational judgment about what they are being asked to do”.

I guess “Primum non nocere” means absolutely nothing in THEIR medical community.

  2. benji

dont you think anybody that would strap explosives to their body would have to be mentally ill?

Remind me to avoid Iraqi doctors. Go in for a physical and come away minus a kidney. Great ethics they have over there.

    Oh my God . . .

Now the director who was murdered for refusing is a saint in heaven . . . the other piece of shit . . . is a piece of shit.

Oh my God . . . what is wrong with these people.

Drillanwr, “Primum non nocere”, grew up listening to the mass in Latin and only took one year in the ninth grade. I’m guessing, does that mean cause no harm?

    AAARRGGHHH what is with them?/??

there is one precedence I can see here. The al asqa martyrs brigade strapped a bomb to a mentally retarded 14 year old boy with a mind of a 7 year old, but even he was smart enough to plead with the israeli guards to help him get the vest off. the mother of the kid was horrified, but likely not surprised. Imagine exploiting the mentally retarded! by the way, downs syndrome is NOT a psychiatric condition, it is mental retardation. these are children in grown bodies. they will do anything to please people. nothing is sacred to Islam.

Benji.. there is a difference between mentally ill and mentally impaired. These women were impaired. They did not have a clear understanding of the act they were sent to die doing.

Glad they found someone responsible, hopefully it will lead to others. I hope he suffers.

Unfortunately many doctors in America don’t beleive in this creed as well. Just look at abortion. 50 million, consumers, workers, tax payers etc have been taken out of our economy and society since 1973. We will reap what we have sown.

I agree that the first doctor is a hero, but the second just likely capitulated because they stuck a glock up his nose and his kids. So he rolled over.

Once again we see the religion of peace at work.

BOTH your remarks about Down Syndrome are pretty much spot-on.

Down Syndrome is NOT mental “illness” … When someone says my little girl is mentally ill I jump ALL over them. I also jump all over people who say condescending things such as, “Oh, they (DS) are such gentle sweet loving people …” … BULLSHIT! My little girl has a `tude and she knows exactly how/when to use it. I’ve butted-heads with her as much as I have either of my two older “typical” girls. I always tell them “She’s a different person … not a breed of puppy”.

People shy away from the word “retarded” because it’s casual over-use in our lexicon has stigmatized it as a degrading word. My little girl IS mentally RETARDED. Her mind will not advance past a certain level of intellect. It will resist the kind of advanced information my older daughters were able to absorb and put to use in higher education.

However, it was found in the 1970s that simply sticking DS children in institutions was nothing more than selling them short. They can learn to their own level(s), just like anyone else. (Hell, I can’t do half the mental work my older two daughters do in their fields of work/study.) So, an effort was made (fought for in some areas) to insist these DS children get evaluations, because there are other physical issues to address in early development that cause delays. And then to give them “early intervention” in addressing their delays to better be able to help educate them at a different pace than we do “typical” children. To allow them to join society. I am sure we have all seen a person with DS working someplace. There’s this cool dude that works at the local grocery store. He’s gone through every fashion/punk/rock phase any other kid his age would. Has a rich social life with friends just like him, and “typical” too. He’s a big sports nut so our convos have been mostly college football.

We were so blessed on many levels with our little girl. We have the county MR/DD school just up the road from us. The early interventionist who came to our home to see our newborn was a 4-foot-nothing loving little woman who was a former Nun … She left the order after working in an institution (the one where the Kennedys hid away their mentally retarded daughter) and saw the family/human need for guidance and intervention and advocacy. When her Order told her she was to be transfered someplace else, and she begged them to allow her to stay with the institution but they refused, she simply just told them she had heard a different “calling” and left the Sisterhood so she could work full-time with families and special needs children. We would have been lost without her … It’s as I told the doctor in the hospital a couple days after our daughter was born and they suspected she was DS, “I’m not feeling cheated … I feel as though someone just dropped a fighter jet in my lap and told me to fly it …” It can be overwhelming. I was the one who felt I had the “deficiency”.

Mental illness is a rich American pop-tart who IS an adult with two babies but can’t seem to get her selfish ass to understand that. It’s the woman who fills the bath tub with cold water and one-by-one drowns her kids. It’s the neighbor guy that constantly believes the others on the street have this need to see him wandering about his yard in nothing but his unwashed birthday suit. It’s the person who can’t get out of bed and see to their own needs because they are either very depressed or just can’t cope with themselves in this world.

Oh, and it ain’t the serial killer or the pedophile … No, THAT is the definition of evil and Hell on Earth.

The mentally retarded CAN become mentally ill, however, depending on how a society treats them. Aside from the families who go against social norm in those countries we are reading about and keep their DS/MR children home to love and raise, the ones shoved into the filth of basically third world institutions are just left to rot away on many levels.

Okay … I’m done. Sorry to wax on and on …

    Waxing off now.

Okay, the first time I tried to post this it disappeared … which means it’ll show up WITH this second try … A 1000 Pardons for the repeat, AND for the length.
