England In Uproar Over Sharia Law - PM: “No Way”

Telegraph:

The Archbishop of Canterbury has been widely criticised after he called for aspects of Islamic sharia law to be adopted in Britain.

Dr Rowan Williams said that it “seems inevitable” that elements of the Muslim law, such as divorce proceedings, would be incorporated into British legislation.

The Archbishop’s controversial stance has received widespread criticism from Christian and secular groups, the head of the equality watchdog, several high-profile Muslims and MPs from all parties.

Amid the storm of protest, Downing Street moved quickly to distance itself from the Archbishop’s remarks, insisting that British law would and should remain based on British values.

A spokesman for Mr Brown said: “Our general position is that sharia law cannot be used as a justification for committing breaches of English law, nor should the principles of sharia law be included in a civil court for resolving contractual disputes.

“If there are specific instances like stamp duty, where changes can be made in a way that’s consistent with British law and British values, in a way to accommodate the values of fundamental Muslims, that is something the Government would look at.

“But the Prime Minister believes British law should apply in this country, based on British values.”

Andy Burnham, the Culture Secretary, said Dr Williams was “wrong” to advocate the adoption of elements of sharia law.

“This isn’t a path down which we should go. The system, the British legal system, should apply to everybody equally. You cannot run two systems of law along side each other. That in my view would be a recipe for chaos, social chaos,” he said on BBC1’s Question Time.

“British law has to be based on British values. If people choose to live in this country, they choose to abide by that law and that law alone. It has got to be fundamental and a cornerstone of our country and our democracy that everybody is equal before that one system of British law.”

The storm of protest which started after the Archbishop’s comments on the BBC’s The World at One shows no signs of abating.

“The Archbishop’s thinking here is muddled and unhelpful,” said Trevor Phillips, the chairman of the Equality and Human Rights Commission.

“Raising this idea in this way will give fuel to anti-Muslim extremism and dismay everyone working towards a more integrated society.”

Baroness Warsi, the shadow minister for community cohesion and social action, said: “The Archbishop’s comments are unhelpful and may add to the confusion that already exists in our communities.

“All British citizens must be subject to British laws developed through Parliament and the courts.”

The UK may be the first to fall to radical islamofascist terrorists in the EU. The EU, what a joke?

France, Germany, Spain, UK, Portugal, which do you think is going to fall to the year 700 next?

  2. Dan (The Infidel)

The UK and the Netherlands are well on their way to Dhimnitude. France has common sense at the helm at the moment…if other European nations would follow suit, it might be a different story.

England will be the first to fall. The twits running the show, can’t even bring themselves to use the proper terminology for Islamo-facism. They are still convinced that “tolerance” will work on a 7th Century society like Islam. England has signed a suicide pact with themselves.

Wave bye-bye Yorik. Eat drink and be merry libshits; cause on the morrow, you’ll all be wearing burquas and beards and sucking the dicks of your Mooslem slavemasters.

France seems safe for now, but I don’t know much about the UK. Gosh.

Render to Caesar that which is Caesar’s and to God that which is God’s. Caesar is reality, God is ideaology. I’m sticking with reality.

  5. Dan (The Infidel)

    @John Cunningham

Dude you quoted the passage out of context. Rendering to Caesar has to do with obeying the laws, paying taxes etc of the land.

Rendering to God means obeying His laws. It’s not a reality/ideology thing. It’s a way of life.

“British law would and should remain based on British values”

What the hell are those values now?

political correctness to the point of submission?

    material wealth over moral health?

Said it before and saying it again, the sun HAS set on the british empire

  7. Realistic

The sad reality is that people are just dropping their faith. The church of england is in a grand decline.

The push of democracy is inevitable and the future of england is projected on three paths.

    1. Sunni Islam
    2. Atheism
    3. Catholicism

If Sunni Islam wins then people has no choice to accept that sharia law is inevitable.

If Atheism wins then mosques and churches will be museums or to my taste exotic homes/apartments.

If Catholicism wins then they will simply take, what Henry VIII took before.

The lesson here is that this situation is here because the Anglican faithful is simply not faithful anymore.

    You reap what you sow.

For what ever future it may bring, let democracy rule.

    With respect,

    Realistic

Way to go UK, I am sure your women are thrilled that your Church has decided to surrender their rights to Shiria Law. Interesting take by a member of the Church who is now forsaking his own God for a false God. You are treading on the grounds of blasphemy.

  9. warrior1

Damn Straight! Keep religious law out of the courts. The last thing we would ever need is a morality police roaming the streets, which is what would happen eventually if Sharia law ever got into the system. One minute you’re enjoying a nice walk in the park with your wife, the next you got her wrapped in a burkha trailing behind you. The Brits got this one right.

  11. Kurt(the infidel)

Even to hint towards accepting another God above your own is blasphemy. This guy should be stripped of his title immediately because this is one of the most shameful things i have ever heard. Ill just say good luck to England. When people like this start submitting you know you’re in trouble

  12. drillanwr

Okay … I’m going to say it.

Just as I have chastised the French for betraying and being the Judas for Jeanne d’Arc, England/Britain IS responsible for the core of what we are dealing with today with the Islamic movement, growth, threat … The Brit Empire used to have control over much of that region of the world we are dealing with now (Granted, it wasn’t always a lovely bunch of coconuts for either side …). But damn! Was a hell of a lot better than it is now.

And now THEY are facing a reversal of fortune, if you will.

Oh, and I don’t think USA SPAM will be permitted for the starving British “refugees” in this war. I mean, you’ve already thrown out The Three Little Pigs from the schools …

  13. TedB

Those wacky Anglicans. This is what it must be like to live in a vacuum, the bishop in the bubble.

Realistic needs to get real, atheism has produced the worlds largest and efficient killing regimes ever, from the Romans to the Nazis to the Communists to name a few. Blaming God for man’s iniquities is short sighted.

Years of propaganda are seeming to be paying off for the Islamic fascists, purveyors of sharia creep and socialist utopians.

  16. Kufir Ken

Keep that damn camel’s nose out from under the tent!

  17. Dr. Jerry

Ole Dr. Rowan Williams is a professed homosexual and the lead spokesperson for homosexual rights in the Church of England and the Anglican Church around the world.

Many Anglican Churches have broken fellowship with him and the Church of England for that very reason.

However, this idiot is to dumb to realize or to ignorant to understand that homosexualism is anathama in Islam and he and his ilk would fall under the judging hand of the mullahs right up front, first and foremost. Hanging, throat cutting, and beheadings are reserved especially for folks like Dr. Williams.

For radical Islam and all of the jihadists involved, ignorance of their religious actions and goals plays right into their hands and so goes England.

But, I will never surrender under Islamic law. I will never allow my family to be placed under such laws. I will take to the streets, armed to the teeth, killing every Islamic activists in sight. I will not allow my beloved America to be placed in such circumstances. I will never allow the enemy to assume such power.

  18. Mike

Does the name Weaver fit here?

  19. KL

I agree with Dr. Jerry and Gary in the Midwest. That’s the true American spirit. Dr. Williams will be the first to go when Sharia law gains a foot hold and he’s at the head of the Christian church in England. God help us. I just hope there are more Dr. Jerrys and more Gary in the Midwests out there because we are entering into a time when we’ll need you.

  20. Jett

    Is it me?

Shocked conversations / comments like these take place (i.e. that anyone would contemplate Sharia law in society today).

The world has gone mad over religion.

  21. Dave M.

That bishop didn’t get anywhere with his stupid idea. From what I
read all three of their political parties rejected the call and I
also looked at their BBC “Have Your Say” discussion sites where
the BB had 12000 posts earlier in the day. I scanned a few pages
and it looked like about 50-1 against, So I wouldn’t write off the
British people just yet. Seems they aren’t taking it anymore.

  22. Adam

I’m not sure why the title said there was an uproar. For most people here all this latest statement did was confirm what we already knew. That the man is an idiot who lives in a fantasy world of his own making.

  23. allahlovesporkchops

I am, quite literally, STUNNED that the Brits are actually standing up for themselves on this!! I was certain the appeasers would quickly win out, with nary a word uttered or finger lifted in opposition, and Shari’a would become a parallel arm of British law. I also thought patriotism and British values were no longer valid concepts there?

  24. London Calling

    allahlovesporkchops

I can assure you that the alarmist stuff you might read about what’s going on in Britain is pretty much nonsense. There is a long tradition of free speech and diversity of opinion. We generally let folk think and say what they want, unless they promote violence or criminality. It doesn’t mean that anybody is actually listening!

  25. RICK IN HOUSTON

Damn, I was just checking out BBC NEWS” “Have your say” on this issue and the Brits are going absolutley apesh_t over this. I have never seen so many response to one of their issues.

  26. drillanwr

“Who will rid me of this troublesome Priest?”

  27. John Cunningham

Dan, no, I got it right. When it was originally said Caesar put a lot of effort in keeping all religions in their corner. Back then they had an ideaology on every corner.

  28. Dan (The Infidel)

    @John Cunningham

Nope John…that’s not the case at all. The passage was in reference to who should the Jews obey, Caesar or God. Caesar wasn’t putting anyone’s religion anywhere at the time
    AD 30-AD33.

The question was asked in order for the Pharasees to prove to their people that Christ was a traitor either to Roman rule or Pharasee rule.

Instead of trapping him into a pro-Jewish or Pro-Roman answer, Christ took a neutral position and gave both sides respect.

    Your context just ain’t there.

  29. hegelbot

The Queen should give the arch-bishop ye olde Thomas Becket treatment.

The Romans had the pagen gods and then christianity, the nazis had christianity and then the pagan gods, neither were at anypoint atheists.
