It takes two full quarters of a downturn in the GDP to qualify for a recession. We’re not there yet.

Those two tankers stolen yesterday were found today, drained of their 5000 gallons of fuel. Looks like simple theft.

Just spent an hour on the phone this morning talking to my college junior (pre-med) daughter. And guess what?? She, after hearing her Mum cite this site and it’s various contributors and community, has gotten in the habit of checking patdollard.com for news and opinion during the course of her busy day(s) away at college.

She has high praises, and best wishes, for RightHandGirl, and even enjoys our “off-color” replies and conversations here.

My baby’s always been a conservative, but has had to put on her armor on campus. Few dare challenge her. Her armor? Well, she looks sort of like a cross between Ann Coulter and RHG. HEH! That great camouflage of being blonde, eh, Jeanet? However, when “fired upon” by a liberal on campus, she is fully armed with fact/information JDAMs, that always reduce the enemy to mindlessly repeating, “Well, he’s a liar … He’s a liar …” (using a Pres. Bush convo she had with another student as an example). My baby is a regular Joan of Arc.

We talked about the election. She’s pissed because Rudy’s out, and wanted me to explain what the hell happened that McCain seems to be the GOP runner now. I told her all I could about the information I have gleaned, but also my thoughts … such as McCain, if he has any hopes of converting a big enough percentage of the conservative masses who are off in the corner licking their wounds to join his support he WILL need to choose a very conservative for his running mate. While he cannot outwardly “flip-flop” from his moderate/liberal stance, choosing a Veep with conservative gravitas is his ONLY way to prove to the conservative wing of the party he hasn’t forgotten them.

I also told her the primary responsibility of the government of this country is to protect this nation with a military that it has provided, and provided for and properly sustained … most especially in wartime. That even though we appear to have a choice of “the lesser of two evils” facing us in the 2008 general election, when stubbornly sitting it out or voting for a non-viable candidate just to make a statement, or even shrugging and allowing an HRC or BHO WIN the election is suicide … not for the party, but for this country. Our military should NEVER again be put into [these] people’s hands/control. My daughter agreed.

Anyhow, my baby’s in your hands, Pat and BashMan and Iggy and RHG … and highly intelligent Dollardheads! Keep up the good work! I’ll see if I can’t get her to start posting her comments and replies.

Damn, Pat. Have we had two generations in Dollard Nation before?

Well that makes your daughter in about the same circumstances as myself. I wish her luck with whatever medical career she chooses, definitely a noble pursuit.

Ha ha ha, “*Young Democrats at Virginia Tech is a non-endorsement organization.” BS.

Funny thing, some of my peers who were campaigning for Ron Paul, are attending with glee. Which goes to show the extent of their political convictions and knowledge. No wonder Paul got a movement within the college communities.

After opening my mail-box on friday I screamed:”HOOORAAAAAH” and some nurse thought I had a nerve-breakdown. Nope, she wasn’t blond. The cute doc that came afterwards to have a chat with me was though

After showing him some stuff on my laptop, ofcourse Dollard Nation was one of them, and the email I had cheered about he just looked at the nurse and said:”She doesn’t have a nerve-breakdown, she’s just not living up to her hair-colour”, just to tell me I could go home.

Maybe I was a “health-hazzard” to the other patients

Give my regards to your daughter. This world needs some fine, young and strong women.

BTW: I’m planning an attack on Richard Gere for the immense stupid line he speaks in his latest movie. This guy needs to do some homework about Dutch history or just check out his scripts better to avoid lying in a movie.

    To Pat:
Don’t know how much power you’ve still got in Hillywood. But, if you can get a hand on Mr. Gere’s agent, give hime the following message:
“Mr. Gere will be gladly welcomed by the vets of Dutbat III to set the record straight for once and forever after his role in his last movie”.

My “remark for the day” to my daughter was:

If the Founding Fathers were time-warped to February 2008, took a few days to get caught up on American History ‘while they were sleeping’, and evaluated where the candidates and parties involved in this current election cycle want to take this government and this country … They, the Founding Fathers, would pull out their guns and start shooting …

Dag-nabbit, Pat! It’s Saturday! Where the fuck’s the beer emo??!!??

Wow - You guys gotta talke a look at this . . .

Just makes me even more depressed about our current status . . . It is not just conservatives who are against McCain - These Vietnam vets are pissed off.

  7. Texas Mom

drill - I have been meaning to tell you - You have the most amazing writing ability. I look forward to every one of your posts. You make me laugh . . . you make me think . . . and, yes, you have made me cry. Tell your daughter that she has a great mom, but I bet she already knows.

Also, tell your daughter that being a doctor is tough out there. I have worked for doctors for the past 20-25 years. Medical billing is a nightmare and doctors are going to be reimbursed less and less based on the current political climate. It takes so much time, effort, and money to become a doctor and the financial rewards are not near what they used to be with lower reimbursements and higher medical malpractice, costs, etc - She will have to really, really love it to put up with what is involved these days and in the future . . . having said that, this country is going to need some great healthcare providers . . . I have no doubt your daughter will be an awesome doctor . . . because she is probably just like her mom - smart as a whip and with a heart of gold.

You are too kind, Ma`am. But thank you. (Guess you don’t mind my occassional use of colorful “military language” … eh, hemmm  …)

Yeah, I have the same concerns you do regarding her career choice. I have a younger sister who is a doctor/surgeon and watched her go through med-school and paying off the [loans] and now in the daily grind of running a practice (BTW, wrongly sued for “malpractice”, against her mal-prac insurance company’s advice to settle out of court decided to fight … and WON!)

But my daughter is more than head-strong … she is as close to a math and science genius as I have ever been in close proximity with (BOTH departments at the University have her tutoring for them … the math department begged her to change her major to math …).

An aside, she has expressed an inkling of an interest in the military. The Marines were hard after recruiting her during and after her senior year of high school. (The nice Lt. recruiter still calls every now and then to check up on her.) During the high school scholarship and awards ceremony she received an award (and a check) from the local Marine/Navy Recruiting office for excellence in science and her continued pursuit of a science major in college. Although, I want her to finish school first. However, if funding for medical school becomes impossible, we may allow (allow? HA! support would be a better word) her to look in that direction. (G-d! Please don’t let Hillary or BHO be CiC!)

If a parent can be in awe of their kid … I am.

But then, as we have seen on this site there are MANY parents in awe of their kids … and rightly so.

drill - I have worked in various aspects for one particular neurosurgeon for most of my working years. I just do his medical transcription now, but I have done it all as far as medical back office work. The air force helped him with finances and he did four years at Randolph in San Antonio before he went into private practice . . . It worked for him. Medicare and Medicaid barely cover the expenses for the treatment of the patient - I can’t stress that enough! That is why it is hard for patients to find doctors who accept Medicare/caid. Those politicians who push for government-based healthcare just have no idea how it will hurt in the recruitment of doctors . . . but then how can we expect them to understand that when they clearly haven’t a clue about capitalism overall. They are just trying to get votes by offering up freebies and not thinking about the overall future of the medical field. It is frightening.

I wish your daughter the best of luck. At this point, with McCain, I am sorry to say that Hillary or Barak will be the CIC. Aside form a miracle, there is nothing else we can do. We have to just hold on and pray a lot, in 2012, we can get a fiscally-minded, military respecting conservative back in office. We can build up the House/Senate seats in the meantime. Did I mention praying a lot . . .

And give your other daughter a great big hug from me today!

Small world? My oldest daughter is an RN in the neuro-surg ICU at our local hospital.

You Said: Those politicians who push for government-based healthcare just have no idea how it will hurt in the recruitment of doctors . . . but then how can we expect them to understand that when they clearly haven’t a clue about capitalism overall.

Me: In the 2004 Presidential election our family doctor, while NOT endorsing Bush over Kerry, DID hang informative posters all over his office regarding malpractice and tort reform and failing government/socialized healthcare programs in other countries … When I asked him about his election leanings he winked and nodded to one of the posters and said, “`nuff said …”

As for “hugging” my wiz kid, she probably won’t be home until Spring Break … But I’ll hold it for you until then.

I was in NOLA this afternoon delivering a gift to a friend of my wife’s and having a nice business dinner with her uncle, a definite conservative.

When I got to the Uptown area around 4pm, there were a few Obama supporters on every street corner waving signs. This is typical for NOLA to have campaign “volunteers” at every street corner on the blvds. I’ve got say he has a good ground game for the local flavor that no other candidate had there.

In checking the breakdown by parish (counties for he other 49 states) it apprears that on the Dem side Obama will get 75% of the vote. He carried all the primarily whites only parishes so far. The population centers have yet to report all but a nandful of precincts yet.

Huck will probably not do as well in the end wth McCain possibly getting the win here.

  15. Dan (The Infidel)

    @Jeanet

Are you back in action now? Get the fook out of that hospital and get on line woman. You made alot of friends here. Keep up the good work. You don’t need no damned hospital, you just need a dose of Dr. Dollard Nation.

    @Pat
Looks like Danny-the Boy Owner Synder forgot all about that continuity speech he made at the end of the season. What a piece of work he is. The fans are all saying WTF?

  16. Kermit

Looks like the Huckster won LA. The late precinct reporting are usually from the parts of each parish where the projects are. I don’t think that there are many members of the GOP voting there.

Surprised that Obama didn’t win going away to a 75% win with the demographics of the precincts waiting to report after the first 50% came in. FYI Obama was the only one with TV ads in Baton Rouge at all.
