Germany Rejects U.S. Troop Request
BERLIN (AFP) - German Defence Minister Franz Josef Jung said Friday that Berlin had no plans to deploy combat troops in battle-ravaged southern Afghanistan, after an urgent US request for NATO partners to do more to stabilise the country.
Jung told reporters that German troops serving with a NATO peacekeeping operation would continue to focus on reconstruction efforts in the relatively calm north of Afghanistan.
US Defense Secretary Robert Gates reportedly sent an “unusually stern” letter to Jung last month demanding combat troops, helicopters and paratroopers.
Josef responded with a similarly “direct and stern” letter, the paper said, without quoting the letters directly.
German government spokesman Ulrich Wilhelm and a defence ministry spokesman confirmed that Berlin had received a letter about Afghanistan from Gates but declined to comment on its content.
There are about 40,000 NATO and 20,000 US-led coalition soldiers in Afghanistan.
NATO commanders say they need some 7,500 more troops to carry out their mission.
Southern Afghanistan has seen the worst violence since the Taliban were ousted in the US-led invasion in 2001, after the September 11 terror attacks masterminded by Al-Qaeda.
I think they are just used to rolling into countries that don’t resist. Why risk it on a country that would potentially fight back? Ten bucks says they would jump on the chance to help “pacify” France yet again.
February 1st, 2008 at 8:38 amYou request urgent help from a “supposed” ally and they turn you down. I hope we write that down and remember that shit forever! Germany must be saving their troops for another attempted take-over of Europe
February 1st, 2008 at 8:44 amYa, well ve are nacy boyzs, ve dont fight anymore because ve are to much into lattes und gay sex ya. You dirty Americans killed all of us who could fight in ze 1940’s ya, no one with any balls left here.
February 1st, 2008 at 8:50 amlittle jumping beans,
Germany has changed her goals, that are on economical wars, that she has already won as the first world exporter, in spite of the high rated euro !
and Germans have always been our best supporters : they like our creative joyful lightness, we like their pragmatic rational heavyness
February 1st, 2008 at 8:55 am…they like our creative joyful lightness, we like their pragmatic rational heavyness …
Code for, “We French like being conquered and raped by Germans. They like it to”.
February 1st, 2008 at 8:57 amnot at all, in the contrary, german girls prefer the frenchs cause, it’s more fun

Yuck, I hope they make them take a bath first.

“they like our creative joyful lightness, we like their pragmatic rational heavyness”
Sounds to me like you would have been shaved at the end of WWII. Thankfully Sarkozy has a pair and may prevent history repeating itself, yet again. Enjoy your riots, you will either be kneeling facing east soon or goose stepping around Champs Elysees.
February 1st, 2008 at 9:20 ambeans, your hermetic tolightness though
I would have been more likely in the Resistance
February 1st, 2008 at 9:26 amI am German and I really reget the decision and I am ashamed of Germany always having excuses NOT fighting against Terrorism and Co.
February 1st, 2008 at 9:31 amGermany doesnt realize what going on in the 21st Century, they have a Army thats not well equipped and have no real experience in War since 1945. Sometimes I wish the Germans today had the balls of the German Army before 1945, not the Nazi crap, but have the courage to fight when its needed and not always have excuse to do half ass shit like in the North…Germany has since 1945 only “Talked the Talk”"
Ich schaeme mich,,,they always want to be a Global Player but dont take the responsibility of one!
I use to work with some Germans when I was in Germany years ago. Many of them were chompimg at the bit to “prove themselves” in combat. Their government was a different story. They’ve grown lazy and indifferent to the idea of combat. They do not raise too many alpha males anymore, worried that they might end up raising little Nazis.
In short, Germany, much like the rest of Europe has grown both stupid and soft to the idea of fighting for freedom.
They are all ripe for Islamic conquest. Europe is full of sheep anymore, all they need is a ravining wolf like Islam to swallow them up.
Socialism and Orientalism has betrayed Europe. But hey, you sow to the wind…you reap the whirlwind.
Dhmnitude is alive and well in Europe. So enjoy your chains Europeans…. Baaaahhhhh…..
February 1st, 2008 at 9:32 am“Europe is full of sheep anymore”
yeah, I can see that you have got only heard dogs in US
February 1st, 2008 at 9:42 amfranchie,
“An army of sheep led by a lion will always defeat an army of lions led by a sheep”.
And in the case of Europe: sheep leading sheep.
Thank God that we have a leader like GW Bush that had the balls to go to war and stick with the plan. Not worrying about what the polls said this week.
Shame on Europe for becoming so polluted with socialist dogma that you can’t recognize the forest for the trees. You all had better wake up soon.
February 1st, 2008 at 9:58 am@frenchie
“yeah, I can see that you have got only heard dogs in US”
That’s right chu chu…There are sheep, wolves and sheepdogs. Europe has the sheep, the US has the guardians of the herd. Islam and social liberalism are the wolf.
We the guardians, intend to kill the wolf. You the sheep want to pet it….
February 1st, 2008 at 10:02 amThank God for President Bush. Imagine if we had a sissy leader like the Germans.
February 1st, 2008 at 10:04 amActually, I have an ongoing project converting sheep to sheep dogs. We’re even trying to start marksmanship/gun safety classes in our schools.
February 1st, 2008 at 10:10 amI am so tired of “NATO” not living up to its commitments.
FRANCHIE:
The Sheepdogs
Most humans truly are like sheep
Wanting nothing more than peace to keep
To graze, grow fat and raise their young,
Sweet taste of clover on the tongue.
Their lives serene upon Life’s farm,
They sense no threat nor fear no harm.
On verdant meadows, they forage free
With naught to fear, with naught to flee.
They pay their sheepdogs little heed
For there is no threat; there is no need.
To the flock, sheepdog’s are mysteries,
Roaming watchful round the peripheries.
These fang-toothed creatures bark, they roar
With the fetid reek of the carnivore,
Too like the wolf of legends told,
To be amongst our docile fold.
Who needs sheepdogs? What good are they?
They have no use, not in this day.
Lock them away, out of our sight
We have no need of their fierce might.
But sudden in their midst a beast
Has come to kill, has come to feast
The wolves attack; they give no warning
Upon that calm September morning
They slash and kill with frenzied glee
Their passive helpless enemy
Who had no clue the wolves were there
Far roaming from their Eastern lair.
Then from the carnage, from the rout,
Comes the cry, “Turn the sheepdogs out!”
Thus is our nature but too our plight
To keep our dogs on leashes tight
And live a life of illusive bliss
Hearing not the beast, his growl, his hiss.
Until he has us by the throat,
We pay no heed; we take no note.
Not until he strikes us at our core
Will we unleash the Dogs of War
Only having felt the wolf pack’s wrath
Do we loose the sheepdogs on its path.
And the wolves will learn what we’ve shown before;
We love our sheep, we Dogs of War.

Hey, what’s up with the Germany-bashing here?
We’re buddies these days, no more “I cut your balls off if you rub mine”… that’s just gay. Why should we just do what your defense minister wants us to do. German’s aren’t know for being fuckwits…
Now, I want you to consider this though: If indeed we joined up with you guys to fight the rugheads, that would be the first fighting committment by German troops since WWII. It is a BIG step for us, internally speaking. Not everyone is ready for it here. The German defense minister is not answering to the American voters but the German ones. A lot of pacifists here these days. Would you want it to be any different??? Tell me…
Cheers

February 1st, 2008 at 10:35 amI’m thinking the political softness of the old world (Europe) has more to do with our willingness to protect their asses during the Cold War, whereas, they hardly had to depend upon themselves. Right after the war (WW2), the German Army was composed of what was left of the Wehrmacht, Luftwaffe, and the Waffen SS. These guys knew how to fight the commies, but had no equipment….once they were finally reamred the old guys were out of service and the next generation took over.
Today, the political nature over fifty years of being protected by us and living the good life, has given us what we have today. Kind of like when you give your kid everything and refuse to let him earn the things he gets…the won’t take care of it. Simplistic, but seems to be the way it works out.
February 1st, 2008 at 10:53 amas far as sheep are concerned, I watched that talk show 2 days ago, Ramandan vs Medded, 2 different conceptions of islam in France ;
I suppose you know already Ramadan as a charismatic muslim brother of Egypt and Algeria origin, living in Geneva, that has, here, softened his speech, quite a camaleon hypocrit ;
The other, not so well-known, Meddep, is a writer and a university teacher that promotes a laïc islam ; you can see at the end which one has “balls”, and I am telling you that more and more of our muslims are alike ; but it will take a few more years to achieve the total reform of them ; I am aware though that the threat is still preocupant… we’ll overcome
if you understand oral french, that’s fine, (that’s sound for those who prefer )

grüss to the german fellow
February 1st, 2008 at 11:01 amI think it is a matter of time. Everyone with insight into the German military would know it is a very well-equipped force with capable troops - granted, no fighting experience, but again — it is a matter of time.
Maybe, the time is now — you’re right. But, again, the political case for the first fighting committment by German troops after WWII cannot be based on some letter…
February 1st, 2008 at 11:06 amTo: GERMAN… AND PROUD OF IT
If we are not careful here in our political choices, it could very well be the same here. Having a very well equiped military and not the political will to use it wisely. After all, the civilian authority is the one to use the military not the other way around.
February 1st, 2008 at 11:13 amThe German reluctance is understandable (not excusable, but understandable), and I think it has to do with a few factors: a) devastating loss in WW II (which is the only way to take the fight out of the enemy, as shown here); b) U.S. protection during the Cold War - meaning Europe didn’t have to work much to defend itself and could instead indulge the “me” attitude; c) worshiping the god of secularism and loss of the moral compass; and c) low birth rate of native Germans - when your kid’s are too few and precious it takes a big perceived threat to put them in harms way.
But by not being willing to help fight now they could increase the long-term threat to us all, as well as not have people with the combat experience they will need when the threat then comes knocking on their doorstep (or the Gates of Vienna - deja vu).
February 1st, 2008 at 11:26 amAs a German, I agree — lets get some combat training in Afghanistan… to prepare for a more serious enemy like Ahmadinejad’s Iran. But, correct me if I am wrong — haven’t the Taliban terrorists all fled to Pakistan?
Are the Americans of you here asking for a gesture as a token of friendship? What is it– i don’t get your frustration. It’s hardly a serious situation you’re facing in Afghanistan, and our two countries are supporting each other militarily in many other ways already.
February 1st, 2008 at 12:06 pm@GERMAN… AND PROUD OF IT
My grandmother on my fathers’ side of the family was German.
And I spent several years in der Fatherland enjoying the culture, the beer and the food. So it’s not that we hate you guys.
In core compitencies, German troops do just fine. They’re good artilleryman, pilots, engineers etc.
What they lack is some of that old Prussian machismo.
And if after 60 years of working with Americans, German poloticians haven’t yet figured out that there is a proper time and a proper place to deploy troops in battle, then there must be something wrong with the German brain…or else the gene pool has been infected by pussies.
This is not the time to be political or to be hestitant. Islam threatens us all. Can anyone in Germany really see themselves as slaves to Islam? Submit, convert or die…are the choices that AQ and the rest of the Jihadis are giving all of us.
Get real my German brothers. I can’t believe the country that produced Rommel, can’t now produce a Patton or an Eisenhower as leader.
I love snitzel, german beer and bratwurst. I dig the culture. But I hate the pussy politics.
Time to kick in and ante-up or the towel-heads are going to kick your asses.
February 1st, 2008 at 12:34 pmCorrect me if I’m wrong, but I believe I read somewhere that it is against Germany’s established law to deploy combat troops in support of war. In essence with our letter to them requesting combat troops…we’re asking them to amend their constitution…so to speak. I could be wrong. If anyone has the “skinny” on this perhaps some enlightenment is in order.
Also, I have it on good intelligence that the German Army is extremely fit and well trained and outfitted. In fact the German Marksmanship badges and other military decorations are highly coveted by US Troops. They’re soldiers are of the highest caliber. Whatever their gov’t is, their soldiers are professionals and should be accorded the proper respect. Sounds alot like things here at home….
February 1st, 2008 at 12:40 pmGates seems to think it is a serious enough situation to be rather blunt about it. It *should* be possible to get Afghanistan under control, maybe even with less troops and fewer casualties, if NATO had better operational flexibility. I think Gate’s frustration stems mostly from countries not following through with what they said they would do.
February 1st, 2008 at 12:53 pmHey, I am not so worried about our gene-pool, America is best proof that no matter how much you mix you can still come out ahead
The NATO committment came without combat assurances due to constitutional restrictions after WWII. Correct. We gotta change that, I agree.
It’s late here in the Fatherland
— time to hit the sack for me.. all the best to you guys. Hopefully, we can sort things out in time.
February 1st, 2008 at 1:04 pmJust a comment, about Germany and for that matter, all of Europe. I first heard of this in Greece, but from a German girl living there. Also involved in the same conversation, was an American woman from NJ (but also living there) and a local woman from Athens.
After considerable alcohol and ever increasing “honest” conversation they all told me they were scared to death of catching AIDS from the European men, because bisexuality is now considered the norm among the men in Europe.
They are looking at the signs, of feminization of the males, all around them. These women were all single and looking for mates.
We weren’t candidates, once they learned we were leaving in a few hours.
I expressed some doubts about this being true.
They countered and began pointing out the signs in the media, in the fashions, in the behaviors normally seen on the street, and in the clubs, bars and restaurants.
They completely convinced us.
I have since had other conversations, with women living in the UK, Italy and Denmark and heard the very same things.
Perhaps this explains a lot of things about the lack of fortitude among Europeans.
February 1st, 2008 at 1:11 pmCapt Buc
these women are in Greece for the greec wellknown fuck (that also is a mine for AIDs, a few stories appeared in the papers), cause the Greecs are not such fidels guys ; the women there are “blond preys” coming from the EU countries that have not much sunshine in their every day life, meaning the wether and the ability of their men to satisfy them (therefore no french women in there
isn’t it the UK that invented the vibrator at the end of the 19th century ? this placebo was supposed to calm “hystery” in the pruritan times, cause men were not supposed to have sex other than fulfilling their duty to the kingdom, but make money (ie US too) therefore only to get children ; I guess that in the business strates the habit is not over ; dunno about the behaviour for the women of the other EU nationalities, I know they are fond of sun countries, Spain, Greece, Damaltie, canaries are the 2ndary home for Scandinaves, and Germans , the Russians are coming now. I particulary know a place called Playas las Americas in Tenerife, where the UK girls and boys come for fast nothing, and they are drunk the first day ! I won’t mention the “sex” aventure though, must be devastating
IF I were you, I wouldn’t take much credit of what told these women ; if you really want facts, there must have a statistic survey with real numbers ;

February 1st, 2008 at 4:55 pmfranchie sweety
I am relating a conversation that first took place in Athens. These women were not tourists. They live and work there.
The signs they used to bolster their argument/ statements are present all over Europe including and especially France. The Euro look fashions, the purses for men, the Italian and French men living with their mothers, etc.
It’s all there, nummykins.
The women are paying attention to it, and apparently don’t like what they see.
Let’s get this straight. These are the thoughts of European women, not mine.
However, when I travel there (frequently), I can now see what they mean.
February 1st, 2008 at 5:27 pmCapt Buc, I am telling ya, wether that are clichés, the women picked their opinion from the sixties italian movies ; remember, Sofia Loren…the italian Mama ; but that’s sort of comportment just could never fit our models : Brigitte Bardot is the archetype of the general opinion on the Frenchs ;
wether the women you met were young (less than 30), cause it’s part of the reality that the young men are staying by their parents untill they finish their graduate courses => 24, 25, 26, 27, depends if they are in medecine or any other scientific options or if they failed one year and had to restart it.
“fashions” is an industry, concerning the world uper class as far as the sales, not the every day standing ; don’t tell me they were upper class women who spit in the soup ; you never been in Paris, Berlin, London or Roma, Madrid, the best shared look there, is jeans trousers.
“the purses for men”, another cliché, women work as much as the men ; I am afraid that Greece is the only exemple that could fit their “prejudgments”
I am practically sure that these women are telling BS
anyway, Bon Voyage, remember, if you need an advice … I have been traveling a bit in one of my previous life
February 2nd, 2008 at 1:19 am…some gay shit here… wtf??! Call us gay and you can suck on our Heckler & Kochs if you insist… faggot!
Doesn’t sound like you’ve been to Germany… you should come over and start talking that trash and see what happens, Captain Puck. lol
