Huckabee Thinks Texas Can Deliver Him Brokered Convention

Politico:

It may be all bluster to motivate donors and raise coin — like most fundraising pitches — but in an e-mail solicitation tonight Huck is now openly pushing the notion of taking his race to the convention.

He can’t mathematically get 1,191 delegates before then, so it’s pretty much the only card — aside from talking up “miracles” — he has to play.

And, in yet another reminder of just how unpredictable this race has been, who would have guessed a year ago that the race would come down to Hillary Clinton and Mike Huckabee hanging on to the March 4 Texas primary as their last, best chance?

The e-mail, titled “Please Take Two Minutes to Read this:”

A few weeks ago, I stood at Chuck Norris’ ranch before a crowd of people and said that Texas would be the place where the dynamics of this race changed dramatically in our favor.

Since then, after winning West Virginia, Tennessee, Georgia, Alabama, Arkansas, Kansas and Louisiana and fighting close races in Washington, Oklahoma, Missouri and Virginia we have positioned ourselves to do just that.

Remember the Republican nominee must have 1,191 votes to claim the nomination or else there will be a brokered convention where the Party’s top candidates will have an opportunity to make an impassioned plea as to why they are the best choice to represent the Republican Party in the fall against the Democrat candidate.

Before we get to a brokered convention however we will need to win Texas and seize the momentum. For this to happen however, we must have your immediate financial support. We are laying it all on the field in Texas and we need you to join us.

Will you make an immediate contribution of $25 or more? Will you stand with me and fight for Texas and reclaim the momentum in the race for the Republican nomination.

This race is about issues. This race is about you.

The fight for Texas is critical. We will invest your support into television ads, targeted voter contact efforts and new campaign materials. Every dollar counts. To compete in the March 4 Texas primary we estimate we must raise an additional $1.5 million by then. To accomplish this, we need you to renew your financial support today. Remember a contribution of $25 or more will help us move closer to the goal and you can be certain we will invest it wisely.

With deep gratitude,

Mike Huckabe

I thought Huck was OK but this stupid BS is getting old fast.

The more I’ve learned about him since Nov. ‘07, the more I’ve disliked him. Hell, I think Limbaugh has been even more critical of him than towards McCain!

McCain is getting some quality endorsements too, and I don’t believe they’re just out of party loyalty alone. Like him or not, McCain has substantive qualities, and REAL experience. He’ll also be more fiscally responsible than any of his likely opponents. True, there are elements of Soros money that may be present in his political career, but remember, this is Washington D.C.; if you dig far enough, you can probably tie Soros money into EVERY politician out there. Why do you think citizens distrust the political sphere so much?

    Just my two cents.

He might as well let it play out until the end, he’s got nothing to lose… I don’t like either candidate (Oh, sorry Ron Paul, I forgot all about you…LOL). To me it’s six of one/Half dozen the other as far as the candidates go… So, why not see what comes of it, I think it’s an enhancement to the election process when rare occasions like this occur…

I never had anything against Huck but I think this is too much now. I think the longer this goes on the more damage he does to himself. Their is a difference between being a quitter and respectfully acknowledging your loss. Romney knew it and got out in time to prevent this. Huck is going to hurt himself staying in too long.

Take a look at Huckabee’s finances, no Soros would fit in them. He has about a tenth the finances of the other candidates and has still gotten this far. That IS a miracle! And with Texas, he can get a brokered convention, anything can happen between here and there. He IS the best hope the GOP has, and a man I am proud to vote for. Go MIKE!
