Maliki Holds Crisis Management Meeting On Mosul
Mosul, Feb 7, (VOI)- Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki held a meeting on Thursday with the crisis management cell on the security situation in Mosul to discuss preparations to wage a crucial military operation in the city.
“Al-Maliki held a meeting on Thursday at his office with the crisis management cell to discuss the ongoing preparations to wage a crucial military operation in Mosul,” al-Maliki’s office said in a statement received by Aswat al-Iraq - Voices of Iraq - (VOI).
“This came after the visit al-Maliki paid to Mosul and his meetings with military officials and commanders,” the statement added.
“Vice President Tareq al-Hashemi, defense and interior ministers, and Ninewa governor attended the meeting,” it noted.
The premier previously announced his intention to launch a military operation in Mosul to hunt down armed groups.
Mosul, the capital of Ninewa, is 405 km north of Baghdad.
