Prince Harry: “Now I’m A Target For U.K. Terrorists”
Telegraph:
Prince Harry’s Security Back Home
Prince Harry has admitted his deployment in Afghanistan is likely to place him at an increased risk of a terrorist attack in Britain.
The Prince said he accepted the possibility that home-grown extremists sympathetic to the Taliban could try to “slot” him on his return.
But Prince Harry, who has been fighting the Taliban for the past two and a half months in Helmand, shrugged off the danger, saying that, as a member of the Royal Family, he was used to threats.
He also rejected the idea that he would have to beef up his own security on his return to Britain.
Speaking during an interview in Helmand - parts of which can be reported now that the news blackout has been broken - the Prince admitted for the first time that he could be at risk.
“Once this…comes out, every single person that supports them will be trying to slot me,” he said. “Now that you come to think about it it’s quite worrying.”
He went on: “I think there’s a lot of guys here who hopefully won’t be targeted but…now everyone will know I’m out here no doubt I’ll be a top target.”
Insurgents already see the Queen, the head of the Church of England, as the leader of a crusade against Muslims and the Prince’s deployment will only make matters worse.
Alex Bomberg, a former aide to the Royal Family who now runs his own close protection firm, said: “Technically he could have caused the death of members of the Taliban or Muslims and that will make him more of a target.”
I don’t believe what Drudge did was right. I don’t believe ANY media outlet should ever reveal any information like this.
BUT
Seeing that he now feels this way, and he is a very important figure in GB, wouldn’t this open the door in the UK to KICK OUT all the radicals from their country in order to save their own?
February 28th, 2008 at 9:18 pmWhen was any member of the British Royal family NOT a target for terrorists? As a matter of fact when was any Non-Muslim ever NOT a target for terrorists?
February 29th, 2008 at 5:27 amThere is probably equal risk being in both places. But with Harry in Afghanistan at least he was working to stop the problem and was able to defend himself. Sending him home might not be the smartest move. I mean of course that would be an obvious knee jerk reaction but maybe not the right one
February 29th, 2008 at 7:09 amIt’s like Jerry Rivers, telling where our troops are going to be. I think this gives the terrorists even more reason to attack the monarchy. Maybe, LftBhndAgn, it’ll be reason for them to start protecting their people from the threat of Islam.
