The voting right act allowed the federal government to send federal registrars to counties where local registrars refused to accept the registration of black voters. It was never intended to be enforced permanently. It was initially supposed to only last 5 years but it keeps getting extended.
These days it wont mean blacks will lose their voting rights, it just means that federal government wont require states to seek federal approval before changing a voting law.
The 15th amendment will ensure blacks have the right to vote
