UK: “Don’t Teach Kids Patriotism”

I swear, when the sword of allah swings for the UK’s throat, nobody should be surprised.

From TimesOnline:

Patriotism should be avoided in school lessons because British history is “morally ambiguous”, a leading educational body recommends.

History and citizenship lessons should stick to the bare facts rather than encouraging loyalty to Britain when covering subjects such as the Second World War or the British Empire, the Institute of Education researchers said. Teachers should not instill pride in what they consider great moments of British history, as more shameful episodes could be downplayed or excluded.

The slave trade, imperialism and 20th century wars should be taught as controversial issues while students are deciding how they feel about their country, the report says.

Three quarters of teachers felt obliged to tell students about the danger of patriotism. The survey suggested neither pupils nor teachers wanted patriotism endorsed by schools.

The slave trade was outlawed in the British Empire 50 years before Lincoln outlawed it here in the US. World War 1 and 2, “morally ambiguous”? British Imperialism bad, Japanese Imperialism good? Slavery and imperialism on display presently everyday in the former caliphate. Just connecting dots, here.

I’d like to quote Jane Austen, actually, to illustrate how far that country has gone:

Dear Miss Morland, consider the dreadful nature of the suspicions you have entertained. What have you been judging from? “Remember the country and the age in which we live. Remember that we are English, that we are Christians … Dearest Miss Morland, what ideas have you been admitting?”
    Northanger Abbey

Once upon a time, being these things were at the core of an empire. Sadly, now, there will come a day when the US won’t be able to count on them at all.

Well who didn’t know that the English have bought into the carnival-barkers Zinn and Said?

“A love for tradition has never weakened a nation, indeed it has strengthened nations in their hour of peril. ”
    Sir Winston Churchill

Brits if you cannot take any pride in a great leader like Sir Winston. then you are no longer worthy to call yourselves British.

And may I add … Nor should we (the Yanks) be in such a “Cowboy’s” hurry to run in for the rescue???

I mean, what’s the old saying about “Letting them stew a bit …” ?? Stew in the muck and mire they have gotten themselves into.

But, alas, we won’t. Even after throwing off the British yolk during our Revolution we have remained akin with them and will ALWAYS be at the rough and ready to avenge them at every turn.

Patriotism is what has unified every great nation in the history of the world. Therefore, it is fitting that those who take it for granted should lose it.

How else can you be apart of the world village if you don’t give up your national identity? What better way to surrender your culture then to teach self-loathing? If you have no love of country then you have no one to fight for it.
