We miss Archie, all we got LEFT with is Meathead.

…or you require all homes to have guns in them and burglary and home invasions will go down.

But it really happened, Kennesaw, Georgia

This was another of Hollywood Leftist Norman Mailer’s pathetic attempts to smear people with conservative beliefs as half-brained nitwits who “actually” believe in International Conspiracies and want to turn America into a Wild West using a popular sitcom as his Left-wing propaganda tool to indoctrinate the masses.

Unfortunately, it was very effective for those who love sitcoms. Fortunately for me, I never really liked sitcoms, because I realized early on the Hollywood Leftist motives behind these kind of shows and now avoid them like the plague.

Try as he might, Norman Lear coated common sense in a worn-out blue collar and tried to make it look imbecilic … But if you weed through the liberal eyeball goo you can see the common sense. Even as a (liberal) kid when I watched “All In The Family” I could see this beyond the striving to make Archie look like an asshole.

Journey down the entertainment/Hollywood road several years where Meathead is now a director/writer of his own liberal propaganda …

He tried to make Jack Nicholson’s Col. Jessup (and the Marines in general) look like mindless, ego-driven, murdering, government funded thugs … and hinged the final selling point on the infamous witness stand speech by Jessup …

:!: Jack Nicholson (Col. Jessup): Son, we live in a world that has walls, and those walls have to be guarded by men with guns. Whose gonna do it? You? You, Lt. Weinburg? I have more responsibility here than you could possibly fathom. You weep for Santiago, and you curse the marines. You have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing what I know. That Santiago’s death, while tragic, probably saved lives. And that my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, saves lives. I know deep down in places you dont talk about at parties, you don’t want me on that wall, you need me on that wall. We use words like honor, code, loyalty. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent defending something. You use them as a punchline. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very freedom I provide, then question the manner in which I provide it. I prefer you said thank you, and went on your way, Otherwise, I suggest you pick up a weapon, and stand to post. Either way, I don’t give a damn what you think you are entitled to!

I cannot begin to cite or point out ALL the simple truth(s) within that [supposedly damning] speech.

Everyone I have ever discussed that scene with agrees … it had the exact opposite “liberal” hate-the-Marines-military effect Reiner was trying to go for.

I didn’t realize that Rob Reiner was the producer/funder of that movie, drillanwr. Very enlightening.

I’ve seen that movie a number of times, and I agree. In fact, I came away from the movie with more respect for the military, both Marines and Navy, than before; not less. It is obvious that the robotic Marine defendant was somewhat of a caricature as was Nicholson. But I’ve always admired disciplined people anyway, whether you are talking about Marines, Karate artists, or whatever.

Very Funny! :gun: I have a concealed carry permit - I wish I could carry on-board an a/c!. The sentiments of Archie really do ring true (i.e. the commies or leftist fascists in the case of many US lefties) would love to either collect up our weapons or at least register them so their future thugs could take ‘em back and lock us up. Seriously. Mercifully, the 2nd Amendment looks to be in good shape based on the Supremes’ initial reaction to DC’s idiotic law.
