CARACAS, Venezuela (AP) - President Hugo Chavez ordered Venezuela’s embassy in Colombia closed and told the military to send 10 battalions to the border after Colombian troops killed a top rebel leader.

Chavez told his defense minister: “move 10 battalions for me to the border with Colombia, immediately.” He ordered the Venezuelan Embassy in Bogota closed and said all embassy personnel would be withdrawn.

The announcements by Venezuela’s leftist leader pushed relations to their tensest point of his nine-year presidency, and Chavez warned that Colombia could spark a war in South America.

He called the U.S.-allied government in Bogota “a terrorist state” and labeled President Alvaro Uribe “a criminal.”

Chavez condemned the slaying of senior rebel commander Raul Reyes and 16 other members of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, saying they were killed while they slept in a camp across the border in Ecuadorean territory.

He said Colombia “invaded Ecuador, flagrantly violated Ecuador’s sovereignty.”

“It wasn’t any combat. It was a cowardly murder, all of it coldly calculated,” Chavez said on his weekly TV and radio program, “Hello, President.”

“We pay tribute to a true revolutionary, who was Raul Reyes,” Chavez said, recalling that he had met the FARC rebel in Brazil in 1995 and calling him a “good revolutionary.”

tHugo has a long track record of calling other nations’ leaders “criminal.” I’m not a psychologist, but it seems like he’s projecting and in denial.

If Columbia is attacked, and we are an ally, then I suppose we should send a few Tomahawks up his ass…..

I find it so convenient that Chavez continues to disrespect and openly call for the overthrow of a legitimate government in a neighboring country, while failing to stop the use of his own lands as a base by terrorists. Gee who has imperialistic ambitions? If I was Colombian President Uribe, I would tell Chavez that if hey continues to support terrorist and advocate the destruction of the Columbian government, I was going to personally stomp his ass back to the stone age.

Once again Chavez shows what a war mongering piece of shit he really is.

This guy is a piece of shit plain and simple. He is wreckless, uses dangerous rhetoric and eventually he will be forced by someone to back up that big ass mouth of his.

I too hope Columbia bloodys his armys nose.

Socialists are so predictable, no food, services going to pot, questions everywhere about leadership and the path country is on, go to WAR …

Works for the Jihad supporting countries, why won’t it work for Venezuela.

Anybody else think/believe/hope that if it “goes down” between Venezuela and Columbia that the Veni people, who are already pissed at Chevez, might not just take the opportunity to [coup] his fat ass?

Also, any idea(s) who ‘the people’ might seat in there if he were dragged out into the street and hanged by his no-neck?

  8. ticticboom

Bet if Columbia kicks Chavez’ ass, all the sudden FARC will become reasonable.

Its easy to to talk tough against the US and its allies whgen the US is busy in the middle east. I would love to see acountry like say canada or mexico say to chavez STFU and then threaten militarily helping columbia. Or perhaps we can sned a couple naval vessels off the coast of venezuela. :gun: :???:

Every plane that takes off from the VAF should have USAF shadow ready to take them out if they misbehave.

  14. T Double Dash

Chavez is very close to shooting himself in the foot.

There is no way President Bush and the Republican party will stand down if this proto-communist dictator attacks its democratic neighbor Colombia, our only ally in South America. Plus, all the talk about the US Army being overstretched is overdone. We would just need to send down the Caribbean a couple of carriers and cruisers that would wipe out Venezuela’s war infrastructure in about 4 hours. Plus, Colombia’s army is second only to the Marines in that they are battle-tested and tough as nails, so they could take care of the action on the ground. Chavez wouldn’t last a week. Chavez better watch out or he’ll end up lynched by his own people, like Mussolini.
