UPDATE: Fox News is reporting that Spitzer is resigning any minute now. Quick hold yer fukn breath and act real surprised.

Interesting Bash note: The Lt. Gov Patterson will probably be taking over. Did you knwo that he has been legally blind his whole life? I didn’t. Interesting.

ALBANY - Gov. Eliot Spitzer has informed his most senior administration officials that he had been involved in a prostitution ring, an administration official said this morning.

Mr. Spitzer, who was huddled with his top aides inside his Fifth Avenue apartment early this afternoon, had hours earlier abruptly canceled his scheduled public events for the day. He scheduled an announcement for 2:15 after inquiries from the Times.

Mr. Spitzer, a first-term Democrat who pledged to bring ethics reform and end the often seamy ways of Albany, is married with three children.

Just last week, federal prosecutors arrested four people in connection with an expensive prostitution operation. Administration officials would not say that this was the ring with which the governor had become involved.

But a person with knowledge of the governor’s role said that the person believes the governor is one of the men identified as clients in court papers.

The governor’s travel records show that he was in Washington in mid-February. One of the clients described in court papers arranged to meet with a prostitute who was part of the ring, the Emperors Club VIP on the night of Feb. 13.

Mr. Spitzer appeared on a CNBC television show at 7 a.m. the next morning. Later in the morning, he testified before a Congressional committee.

An affidavit filed in federal court in Manhattan in connection with that case lists six conversations between the man, identified as Client 9, and a booking agent for the Emperors Club.

He had a difficult first year in office, rocked by a mix of scandal and legislative setbacks. In recent weeks, however, Mr. Spitzer seemed to have rebounded, with his Democratic party poised to perhaps gain control of the state Senate for the first time in four decades.

Mr. Spitzer gained national attention when he served as attorney general with his relentless pursuit of Wall Street wrongdoing. As attorney general, he also had prosecuted at least two prostitution rings as head of the state’s organized crime task force.

In one such case in 2004, Mr. Spitzer spoke with revulsion and anger after announcing the arrest of 16 people for operating a high-end prostitution ring out of Staten Island.

“”This was a sophisticated and lucrative operation with a multitiered management structure,” Mr. Spitzer said at the time. ”It was, however, nothing more than a prostitution ring.”

Albany for months has been roiled by bitter fighting and accusations of dirty tricks. The Albany County district attorney is set to issue in the coming days the results of his investigation into Mr. Spitzer’s first scandal, his aides’ involvement in an effort to tarnish Majority Leader Joseph L. Bruno, the state’s top Republican.

    Hypocrite.

And all this time I thought he was just screwing us citizens of the State of NY.

  3. deathstar

Spitzers saying “my dick is only this big, thats why I have to buy prostitutes”.

  4. Goodbye Natalie

    GUFFAW!

I hope they hang this weasel by the scrotum. I knew this clown was a scumbag long before he made governor.

  5. drillanwr

    Were they illegal alien prostitutes?

Maybe he was just playing “hide the NY drivers’ license” with them …

  6. John Cunningham

Twenty minutes to go before we find out what he has to say at 3pm about himself. Maybe he’ll resign.

  7. IP727

Was he a customer or operator of said cat house??

  8. 0311inOHio

    I’m shocked :!:

  9. bill-tb

Well, it’s not like he was tapping his toe in the bathroom, and we know how bad that can be.

  10. cb10

Now qualified to run for a U S Senate seat.

  11. LftBhndAgn

He is expected to resign according to Fox.

Who would have thought NY was just as corrupt as Illinois.

  12. drillanwr

Only thing missing from this is his “I’m gay” declaration …

  13. Kurt(the infidel)

he is also under indictment now by the state of New York.

What a complete scumbag. this dude didnt run a taco stand, he was the governor of New York! What a complete shame to this country he is.

  15. drillanwr

    Kurt -

Now he is qualified to be Obamas VP
    ————————————————————

Maybe so … But I’d say he matches up better with the Hillary ticket … She’s used to her right hand man having his hands “occupied”.

  16. B. Veener

He’s hasn’t been indicted yet - and it would be an indictment by the Federal Government, not the State of New York.

  17. LftBhndAgn

    Client #9 doesn’t sound good.

  18. Max

If it were Gov Barney Fag, he would be out defending his behavior and the NY state legislature would probably be having an impromptu gay pride parade in his behalf, celebrating his perversion; but since Spitzer is apparently a normal guy, he must resign. Is there a double standard here or what? I think Spitzer was right to resign, but IMO the Barney Fags in public life need to resign too.

  19. dave

Another progressive, oops liberal bites the dust. How about that ” Culture of Corruption.”

  20. Kurt(the infidel)

Ok B. Veener I stand corrected. just telling what i heard on Fox at the time. and they said he was indicted, but recently retracted that.

  21. Kurt(the infidel)

    Drill

you’re probably right. he would go better with Klinton inc. But the stupidity of his actions fit better with Obama

  22. Tom in CO

D-NY goes out with a bang, ohoho!

  26. Boo Boo

This guy is the sleeziest, most sanctimonious, hypocritical, power-hungry, arrogant jackass. He ruined the careers of many executives, falsely accusing them of criminal wrongdoing. He sued companies, forcing them to change management, etc. to “protect the shareholders,” all in a quest to “make a name for himself,” to gain power. Look at the companies now. They were doing fine financially before his intervention. Now, their stocks are in the toilet. Thanks, Elliot, you #%$@&^$@. Couldn’t have happened to a nicer guy.

  27. Kilemal

The last time I saw him he did smell a little tuna fishy.

  28. dave

Rember the Beatle song “Number 9″? Written for another loser.

  29. IP727

What’s wrong with a nice jewish boy playing hide the salami with a nice shiska girl?

  30. ticticboom

Not once has this guy ever made the right decision. He makes Pataki look clean, and at least Pataki had the sense to keep it in his pants.

As AG, he didn’t want to hear about organized crime, terrorism, smuggling rings, or slumlords. All he wanted to do was throw sand in the engine of the economy.

NY has had some god-awful govenors, but Spitzer has the combination of incompetence, immorality, and stupidity to leave them all in the dust.

At least until Cuomo the Younger gets a shot.

  31. blastdad

    He’s a dem for crying out loud!!!He ain’t resigning!!!!!

This is a resume enhancment for dems!!! I seem to recall a dem president getting his saber polished by some little honey in the oval office. He didn’t resign,in fact his wife sent the goons after anyone who said anything bad about the perfert.

What makes anyone think Spitzer’s going anywhere?!!

  32. Richard Quinn

Bash, if the legally blind statement is true, Lt. Gov. Patterson probably couldn’t tell if he was standing next to Gov. Spitzer or the shithouse door from a tuna boat.

  33. chay

He won’t resign. Democrat officials and their supporters grew out of the “anything goes” brain-drained crowd that started in the sixties that has now infected almost half the country. Bash said it earlier, if the guy had an “R” after his name he’d be burned at the stake. He’ll get a pass for being a Dem, plus a vote of support from Ted Kennedy who was also given a pass by his party for causing the death of his young mistress.
Heck, Bob Byrd was the Grand Master of the KKK and the so-called party of civil rights still elects him, even though he’s so old he probably sits on the board for Depends diapers. He’s not only the president…he’s a crapper.

The great thing about this is that Spitzer (or is it Swallower) is a big supporter of Her Thighness. How much do you want to bet that Slick Willie also uses that prostitution ring. They are about the only 2 heterosexual men in the Democratic party any more.

  34. Zeke Eagle

Damn, I almost dashed off letters of congratulation to my New Yorker friends but decided to hear the whining retreat for my own ears. Damn, damn, damn!

The D’rat spin promises to be intertaining but dammit I crave Dhimicrat blood.

  35. Dan (The Infidel)

Soooo…Levin was right after all. Spitzer is a schmuck. The question is did the schmuck do a deal with the Feds in return for his resignation?

    Bah-bye asshole….

  36. Ty

Someone help me out here. Was this guy not threatening a major talk show host (Hannity, O’Reilly) with lawsuits within the past couple of years? I could have sworn I remember some talk show host playing tape of a phone call that he recorded in which Spitzer was pulling the “do you know who I am I could end your show” bit.

  37. Marc Stockwell-Moniz

     Dave:
You beat me to it brother. All day I was laughing at and about Sptizer and the Beatles’ #9 song.
    #9, #9, #9, #9, #9.
Got to go and find the e-mail contact for Sptizer and congratulate him on a fine performance.
I just love e-mail And you don’t even need an envelope or stamp. It is virtually free!

  38. Marc Stockwell-Moniz

 My weenie is this small. But most of the other governors have big penis.
I wonder if he knows what the definition of is, is?

  39. Jon

He’s always had this George Costanza thing about him….

  40. dave

    Shrinkage?

  41. Zeke Eagle

Forgive my sobriety, I want to know where the dough, gelt getus, coin, shekels, dollars came from to pay $5000 an hour to high class whores.
If that excursion was on the people of New York’s dime Eliot could be going to Sing Sing and not to visit some shlub he sent there.
    Hey one can hope!

  42. Boo Boo

Zeke: his daddy is a very rich guy (he’s a rich boy), he lives on Fifth Avenue. Of course, the media always cooperated in covering that up, because they had to assist him in cultivating his image of a “self-made”, hard working, honest fellow.

  43. Dick McMichael

Here we go with another super-hypocrite, if hte accusations are true. So far, he hasn’t denieed them. He is joining a large club, a club that is destroying trust in government. Some may think that is a good thing. Maybe it is. At least if we don’t trust, we are keeping up our guard.

Ronald Reagan: “Trust but verify.” Something like that.

  44. Uri

It’s ridiculous how usually the frontrunners against crime and corruption are the ones doing it themselves.
Utterly disgusting. Im glad hes resigning.
