March 6th, 2008 at 12:25 pmLooked like black powder (aka old-fashioned gunpowder) to me. You can buy it in many hobby shops and gun stores. There are plenty of much more potent explosives that can be easily made. ANFO, ammonium nitrate and fuel oil, basically fertilizer and diesel, gives the most bang for your buck, but requires at least a little intelligence to mix without blowing yourself up.
Obviously, we’re not dealing with a terrorist mastermind here. Still, it doesn’t take brains to kill, and black powder was the main tool of war for almost a millenium.
