Who has, or has any experience with, or just wants to talk shit about, a PTR 91? To buy or not to buy?

CAMARILLO, Calif. (AP) - A survey says the national average price for gasoline rose 9 cents over the last two weeks.
The average price of self-serve regular gasoline on Friday was $3.19 a gallon, mid-grade was $3.31 and premium was $3.42, according to the Lundberg Survey of 7,000 stations nationwide released Sunday.
Of the cities surveyed, the cheapest price was in Cheyenne, Wyo., where a gallon of regular cost $2.95, on average. The highest was in San Francisco at $3.58.
Compared to a year ago, national gas prices are up 64 cents.

Don’t hold your breath that Petraeus will be John McCain’s running mate. Too early for the guy to leave Iraq. He’s the man, he knows it, and to pull out before the end of this year would only spell disaster there.
No Petraeus, no Condi, but still plenty of good choices. There’s one way McCain can blow his VP choice: mediocre, bland, unknown. McCain is a unique case as for as Presidential candidates go. For too many reasons my lazy ass wants to write about right now, his choice has an atypically profound impact on his chances of getting elected.
And for the record, Right Hand Girl has not dismissed the notion out of hand as erroneously reported in Politico.

This whole Florida/Michigan do-over thing is going through some serious twists and turns. Sharpton in making thinly disguised racist threats, but smart money is on the fact that something is going to happen. At the end of the day, this is probably good news for the harridan, almost definitely in Florida. What really stands out about all this, is how badly Howard Dean sucks when it comes to making important decisions, and putting out fires. He should have done a bettter job at both when this shit came up a year ago.

Been locked in a dark editing room all day, sticking my head out….

It took me 12 full minutes of digging to find one MSM news report that had the word Democrat, before or anywhere near Elliot Spitzer’s name. Check the Politico’s lead story on the topic. They don’t even mention that he’s a Democrat, other than to imply it by calling him a friend of Hillary’s deep, deep into the story.
There’s one way McCain can blow his VP choice: mediocre, bland, unknown. McCain is a unique case as for as Presidential candidates go. For too many reasons my lazy ass wants to write about right now, his choice has an atypically profound impact on his chances of getting elected.

It pretty much began in the 2000 presidential election cycle. The Texas Gov. whose Daddy had been VP, and then Prez (for one term) had the “name”, but NOT the “gravitas” … So, who did GWBush choose? Dick Cheney … Who did Algore choose? Joe Lieberman (nice guy, a bit whiney, but usually has his head on tight and straight but since it was before 9-11-01 had it waaay loose) … And in 2004 there was The Breck Girl (and the traitor) …
So, as we are NOW seeing in the growing blabber about a possible Clinton/B-HO ticket (or B-HO/Clinton …. whoever has the bigger dick when the cock fight is finally finished) it is more important than ever to have a good, strong, recognizable (and CONSERVATIVE) Veep for McCain.
Yes.
So, hopefully those who are advising McCain (possibly even GWBush) are making this point importantly clear to the presidential hopeful. I believe MANY Republican votes FOR McCain are balanced upon his choice …
THIS is the first [thing] McCain had better NOT blow …

March 10th, 2008 at 7:55 amThe do over vote, the superdelegates, the whole bullshit mess is from the party that screams ‘count the votes!’ and then if the count is not to their liking, they take it into court.
The mess you are seeing is a symptom of attempts to rig the outcome in favor of clinton inc. by the dhimicrat ‘leadership’ before the emergence of the magic negro.
March 10th, 2008 at 8:39 amI think George Allen would make a great choice for VP–only problem is the fallout with the “Macaca Incident.”
Oh and word from some of my friends at UVA is that the cameraman that was labeled that ridiculously-trumped out word, was given preferential course selection after the incident. I don’t wanna be a rumor monger, but it wouldn’t surprise me one bit…
March 10th, 2008 at 8:44 amBack in the 90’s I built pianos at Steinway & Sons.
The term “Shoemaker” was thrown around as an insult to your craftsmanship.
“Shoemaker” it was explained to me was a reference to the unskilled workers making Nike sneakers for ten cents an hour over seas.

March 10th, 2008 at 10:56 amPat,
The PTR 91’s are good rifles, I was looking at one, but didn’t have the dinero at the time. From what I understand, the company bought all the tooling, machinery, plans and diagrams from a H&K licensed plant in Portugal. So it’s about as close to a H&K-made G3 your gonna get…. is it a fixed or collapsable stock? What kind of glass are thinking about putting on it, something for long range or another dot-type?
your really all about 7.62 huh? Understandable…. It’s a REAL man’s round

March 10th, 2008 at 12:10 pmI had a similar rifle but it was made in Greece. It was one of the best I ever had and I wouldn’t have let it get away from me if I’d had any choice. The weight is the only real downside. It also tends to leave a nice dent in the side of the case on ejection, which is really only a problem if you are planning to reload. The number of accessories available for these weapons is fantastic too. You can effectively have quite a collection of different guns because it’s so easy to swap out the “bits and pieces”. Bi-pods, different foregrips, adjustable cheekpiece stock, collapsable stock, and my personal favorite: PSG-1 trigger group.
March 10th, 2008 at 12:12 pmhey is bash selling his dvd today or another day?
March 10th, 2008 at 1:20 pmJimmy B and TB -
I can go either way on the stock. Any recommendations? Either way, point is, I’ve got my high-end .762 ( 308 ) with the FAL Congo, so I thought the PTR was a good “cheaper” companion at a grand.
I have one friend who’s just down on the rifle, a lot. Bitches about the ergonomics, but I gotta tell you, it’s hard to find a bad review on them.
As for weight, is it any worse than the FAL Congo?
March 10th, 2008 at 1:46 pmSame general feel as the FAL. I like the balance of the HK style better. The stocks are so easy to swap that I’d go for the least expensive to begin with and then try out some of the optional styles. The PSG-1 stock, which is fully adjustable for length, etc is great. The adjustable cheek piece is real handy. If this PTR is like mine, all the HK accessories will fit right up. I was very happy with the HK quick release scope mount too. If you remember the first “Lethal Weapon”, when Riggs was setting up to ambush the badguys on the dry lake bed, that was an HK set up with the full PSG-1 rig including the fully adjustable trigger set.
March 10th, 2008 at 2:29 pmOh yeah…this really, really needs to be available in the Jihadikiller shop!!
March 10th, 2008 at 2:32 pmhttp://www.tadgear.com/x-treme%20gear/apparel%20main/shemagh_skull_%26_crossbones.htm
Pat,
About the stock, you can go either way, but this is a full bore battle rifle with the 7.62, a full stock would be nice for a long day of shooting, but the collapsable stocks are sweet. Also I hear that in the long run they aren’t as durable and make it hard to get a cheek weld, but the durability gripe more than likely stems from military users who bash the crap out of their rifles day in & day out, for civilian use, I’m sure it’s fine. But why settle? Like TB said, you can get both and switch them out according to your mood dude.
As for your friend, I mean….. It’s all up to the person really, whether they like the rifle or not, I don’t find anything wrong with it, though the cocking tube is way the fuck out in front… and if you think it’s heavy then get an AR-15 or go to the fucking gym!
Seriously though, I couldn’t tell…. there can only be maybe a few pounds between the two and these are full size battle rifles bro, there is going to be some weight involved with everything, the weapon, mags & ammo, why do you think there was such a shift to 5.56? less weight & more ammo.
For what it’s worth, I noticed a little more heft on the FAL, but that was a standard model not the Congo, thats the one with the folding stock and short barrel, correct?

March 10th, 2008 at 2:57 pmPat, I was checking the two out last night from the email you sent. I would go with the “K” model, if I am remembering correctly that was the one that didn’t have the underside rail. From my experience the collapsible stock can really give your shoulder a bit of the meat tenderizer treatment over longer periods of shooting.

March 11th, 2008 at 1:32 pmIn Canada (west coast) gas is ~$4.80 USD/USG. Gasoline taxes, which mostly contribute to the Fed. surplus, running around $15 bn for the latest year, est. $9 bn including debt paydown next year. But the estimates are generally low. For approx US equivalents, multiply by 10.
