March 17th, 2008 at 8:57 amAnother reason to blame Bremer…just skimmed this…lemme know your thoughts….
Placing blame is counter-intuitive. Americans still like nice clean victories, still! We all should have looked closer at what did happen. Failure to see the influx of foreign terrorists to invade Iraq. Little thought was put into this. I have no reason why.
As to Bremmer, did the Germans keep their Army, did the Japs? Past histories would lend agreement to dissolving DEFEATED army’s. We just did not have the little war won just yet. Who’s to blame. I got no clue. I always like the media’s tendency to resurrect inside stories with speculations. This article is full of that. We will never know either way if it turned this war into a 6 year fight or if it would have been a 2 year peaceknick. All we know is what we have now!
March 17th, 2008 at 9:07 amBlame Bremer? Blame the guy who appointed him, Bush.
March 17th, 2008 at 9:12 amIn a perfect world there would be no war.
I will use the words of L. Paul Bremer for a retort on the slimes article.
“Like most Americans, I am disappointed by the difficulties the nation has encountered after our quick 2003 victory over Saddam Hussein. But the U.S.-led coalition was absolutely right to strip away the apparatus of a particularly odious tyranny. Hussein modeled his regime after Adolf Hitler’s, which controlled the German people with two main instruments: the Nazi Party and the Reich’s security services. We had no choice but to rid Iraq of the country’s equivalent organizations to give it any chance at a brighter future.”

March 17th, 2008 at 10:04 amPat
Tell him to look to Belize or the Caymans like TBinSTL instructed.
Also, for those of you that have read my previous posts regarding setbacks in Iraq you should remember 2 main points of contention.
#1 - Letting the State Dept. and UN decided that elections would be held along sectarian lines is the cause of all the political problems in Iraq. They won’t start to get straightened out until elections are allowed to go on regional lines, i.e. you vote for your neighbor. THIS is what provides for representation and accountability. NOT political/sectarian parties.
#2 - Rumsfeld and Bremer will be bourne out by history as the men who almost lost Iraq. Due to Rumsfeld’s professations of “total annihilation” many Iraqi conscripts deserted instead of surrendering meaning that many armed young men were released onto Iraq without a future and thusly became hired guns. The second part of the equation is Bremer’s choice to dissolve the Army. While the remnants of the Republican Guard should have been disbanded, many other sectors of the military should have remained intact. This is the same tactic that was used in Germany and Japan. Each official command having to officially surrender yet a certain part of each staying intact so as to assist in stabilization and then reconstruction.
And just an FYI, during OIF-1 when I was there, every man that came to our base looking for work was former military and every man we caught shooting mortars, RPGs and AKs at our base camp? Also ex-military and many, not all mind you but many, had been turned down for work within the previous couple of weeks. The majority of Iraqis (yes even Baathists) just want to get their lives and communities back on track. If they aren’t allowed to do it with us, then they’ll just do it against us.
And as far as the foreign fighters, where would they have found warm bodies if the soldiers had been allowed to remain soldiers?
March 17th, 2008 at 10:46 amOff Topic but…
Pat I just bought 2 of your Jihadi Killer shirts! I can’t wait to sport them as soon as they get in!
I saw ticktickboom in DC on sat for GOE IV, and he had on your shirt, needless to say seeing the back graphic sold me on the I. Team shirt! I was going to get the Crusader shirt anyway
GOE IV was good, but the crowds didn’t show up due to the fact the moonbats were nowhere in sight. We’ll see what happens next month.
To all who are not at work tonight and can enjoy todays fun
But if you are working (like me) then we’ll just have to save it for Friday.

March 17th, 2008 at 1:05 pmI’m not big on laying blame this close to the events. I really think that there is a good argument to be made that weather intentional or not, the way things played out pretty much had to happen. It had to get really shitty before the average Iraqi would start listening to our guys. Up until that point they were just nodding their heads and acting like they were on board. Many still do that, I expect but momentum is everything and we have it now.
Twenty years from now, we can start to figure out who was right and who was wrong in a public way. Only those involved know all the details now and if they were Machiavellian enough to plan this out in advance, they sure as hell won’t be saying anything about it anytime soon.
March 17th, 2008 at 2:31 pmHussein bitches about Geraldine Ferraro making comments about his race, yet he appears to only casually distance himself from Rev. Wright by saying that he doesn’t agree with the comments made in his recent sermon. Wright is a RACIST! He unequivocally hates white people(or at least that’s the way I read into it.)

March 17th, 2008 at 5:44 pmHas anyone noticed the Supreme Court voting to possibly outlaw the ownership of firearms by the American public this week? Or is it premature yet? Just a question?
Of course The Media has been drooling about all of the nice juicy rampages this past year. I guess that they are preparing the US ‘Citizens’ for their future role as ‘Subjects’? I understand that ‘home invasions’ have replaced shootings in australia? Now isn’t that sweet to look forward to? Happy green day :>)
March 17th, 2008 at 5:53 pmI am so tired of B.O. and the Reverend Wright types.
I hear their rehetoric daily. Speaking as a Christian, (not an outstanding one, but I do try ) if I went into a “White” church and the “minister” was speaking and acting like Rev. Wright, I would have to get up and leave. I would not be able to sit there. I would not write off his words of hatred for my country as an American citizen, regardless of color. I would not write off his words of hatred towards the Jews. I would be taking note that instead of teaching the Gospel and true Christian teachings ~ he is up there cussing, endorsing conspiracy theories as truth, and laying a whole lot of defeatisim on the congregation week after week, year after year. Telling them constantly that they are oppressed. That is not the role of any religious leader that I would deem a Christian, black, white, yellow, or whatever. Rev. Wright should be lifting them up and telling them encouraging things and ways to build their lives, of any color, into a successful Christain life. He, and all those like him, are not doing that. They are inspiring hatred in a political and self defeating way that will only keep people down. Poison in the pulpit. 100% blame someone else and 0% personal accountability for one’s own destiny. If we end up with anyone as CIC that even remotely is connected to this type of thought process it will be a disaster internally as well as internationally.
http://www.gather.com/viewArticle.jsp?articleId=281474977285439
I do believe those who inspire jihadists use the same techniques using hatred, tunnel vision, perpetual oppression with zero hope to obtain their desired effect. It’s America’s fault. It’s the Jew’s fault.
Blah, blah, blah. *puke*
Happy St. Patrick’s Day to everyone!

March 17th, 2008 at 6:51 pmTry a new thread? Are Black’s, African American’s Racist? I am very sorry but I am 40+ years and I still here about Slavery. When was the last time you heard that someone you know owned a Slave? I have never known someone who owned a slave. I dont own a slave! OH that was about a 100+ years ago. PLEASE!!!!! We need to stand up once in a while, and say stop to the Racist Black on White and grow up. Am I wrong? I feel for The people who were slaves. not there 4th generation children who feel we owe them for being black. There are just as many poor white people as there are black. It has nothing to do with color, It has to do with where you live and the Economy around you. The only reason I am bringing this up is, Obama and his Preacher.

March 17th, 2008 at 9:26 pmDrillanwar, and everybody:
“Young Americans” is nothing like “Generation Kill”. It was directed by a Brit with Leftist leanings, it’s scripted not documentary, and people close to the production have told me much of it is a laughable misportrayal of what being a Marine during the initial push was really like. The whole thing is limited to the initial push. It’s from a book about that drive to Baghdad, and due to a variety of the usual “fucked up by civilian idiots with an agenda” issue, what was a good but somewhat fictionalized book (according to several of the actual Marines in it that I’ve spoken to) has turned out to be far less than what it should be. Don’t get too excited to see it, though I’m sure it’s got some good fake combat moments. Expect another crappy, inaccurate portrayal of what Iraq during those few weeks was like, similar to “Over There”. Not the book author’s fault, just the fault of the Hollywood civilians and another Limey with an anti-war, anti-American chip on his shoulder, who put their clueless, biased, “entertainer’s” mitts on it. And honestly y’all, none of all that negative stuff I’ve just said is my opinion, it’s what I’ve been told by some of the highest creative folks involved in every step of its creation. It’s the kind of thing to watch it you have that perverse enjoyment of seeing how bad Hollywood fucks up the truth of Iraq. Check this: there’s a scene where after a firefight all the Marines break out into song because the boneheaded Limey director thought it was a great idea. Gay. And just sad, that once again, millions of dollars and hours of good cable airtime are being spent to make sure an audience knows less about the truth of Iraq than when they did before they even started watching.
P.S.
If you think I’m slow, they’ve been working on this longer than I’ve been working on YA. But a lot of you have already read my angry spiel on that. Had I bypassed re-embracing Hollywood, YA would’ve been out already.
March 17th, 2008 at 9:58 pmLarry is actually Hussein.
March 17th, 2008 at 10:03 pmPat, the M&p’s are VERY hit-or miss….. That might why the low price. From weapon to weapon they seem to be very inconsistently reliable, with some be acceptably reliable to others being just junk. problems with feeding and what not, It’s kinda late so I’m having trouble remembering exactly what the list of probs were……sorry, but there is probably a reason for the low-low price, the rail and the Troy sights alone are very expensive and these rifles are like 1500 new sooooo…..
Again….. Lewis Machine & Tool or Land Warfare Resources Center are THE BEST period. the LMT is the best Direct Gas Impingement - next to a Colt and the LWRC is THE Piston gun next to a H&K 416
March 17th, 2008 at 10:50 pmHey Pat, have you seen the latest StopLoss trailer…they are portraying it as a “Patriotic” movie…I guess they figure after how “Rendition” and the rest of the crappy anit-war rhetoric flicks have failed, they need to trick people into watching it.
As for the S&W M&P, they are supposedly made by Stag, who has good rep for AR lowers..but as said above, I have heard they are hit and miss. Personally, for a traditional AR I would go with a Rock River upper (in whatever flavor you prefer) and build a lower myself. Or you could do a POF Gas Piston upper (they are damn nice) and build a lower with it.
March 17th, 2008 at 11:45 pmJimmy B-
Thanks for the info. Part of the low-price is that there is no rail, but I did hear that a lot of the first one’s were recalled for problems I can’t recall. I did a serial number check and found out that the one I’m considering was built just three months ago, so I should be okay on that call. Interesting sidebar: most every gunstore I go into is either low in stock or selling crap because there has been a huge rush on weapons due to fears about an incoming Dem administration, amongst some of the more extreme concerns about socio-economic breakdown on the horizon. And geez, let’s not even start to talk about the price of ammo, right? The same exact DSA Congo FAL I bought almost two years ago to the day is now $700 more, brick and mortar store-bought.
March 18th, 2008 at 12:33 amBlue Oval -
I’ve heard many good things about the Rock Rivers - no straight-up raves, but “quite a good gun for the money” type of stuff.
To all: is it really hard to get replacement parts for Yugo AK’s? I hear if something breaks, you’re pretty fucked.
Two AK quesions: Actually three: 1. Are the Romanians really the best for foreign-made?
2. How about a Bulgarian with some fancy shit added for about $700, and 3. what is the best way to go if buying American?
I’ve gotten two Czechs with their little kits including bayonets for about $450 each. Would like to add one more AK for a nice rounded collection of three.
March 18th, 2008 at 12:39 amAnybody seen the documentary “Outside the Wire?”
March 18th, 2008 at 2:19 am0311 YutYut
J.D. sent me a copy to one of my many hide-outs, and I’ll be at that one one Friday so I can pick it up and see it. Heard great things, have no doubt it’s great.
March 18th, 2008 at 3:22 amAccording to the website, “Outside the Wire” took place in the Fallujah area in 2005, specifically Karmah. I just ordered a copy. My batallion was there during that timeframe, maybe I’ll see some familier faces and places.
March 18th, 2008 at 3:49 am0311Yutyut -
I was in Fallujah very early 2005, deep in the city, with 1/3 Charlie. Our OP was an Iraqi elementary school that the Chechens had taken over.
I was bumped of that helo at the last minute.
I already believed in God, but any last vestiges of doubt left, because I 1000% felt the devil down to the marrow in my bones in that place. I knew for sure that for awhile it had quite literally been his main private domain on earth.
Who were you with?
March 18th, 2008 at 4:24 amPat
Personally, I chose the High Standard HSTX6551. It’s manufactured here in Houston and is reasonably priced. This company has a long history of manufacturing competition pistols, .50 cal MG, etc. A kinda heavy trigger pull that can be lightened by a gunsmith, but it’s very accurate. I shoot surplus M855’s out of mine and average a 2″ spread at 100 meters with iron sights and less than .5″ at 50 with my EOTech. 16″ barrel with a 1 in 9 twist is perfect for the heavier 855 (most recommend at least 1 in 7 or that outperformed my buddies’ DPMS and Rock River uppers hands down. Only draw-back is that they don’t offer a gas-piston design.
Your other option would be a 6.5 Grendel from Alexander Arms. Long distance range at least equal to 5.56 so it outperforms the 6.8 SPC with the same effective stopping power.
http://www.highstandard.com/
http://www.alexanderarms.com/grendel.htm
Of course, if you want to get really serious, there’s the .50 cal Beowulf!
March 18th, 2008 at 4:35 amErik Marsh:
Thanks for the tip. Coincidentally, a couple of months ago I bought a High Standard compact .45. Still haven’t shot it, got it as an inexpensive replacement for an awesome concealable Springfield .45 I gifted to a young lady friend. I hadn’t heard of High Standard and was a little skeptical given the slightly cheesey name ( Felt like I was buying something that might as well have been called Good Quality ) but a Marine I trust gave it a good recommendation, and for about $450 brand new I felt I couldn’t go too wrong. Looks like I’ll be shooting it for the first time weekend after this. ( So many guns, so little time, so many laws against killing haajis - okay, bad joke, don’t even pipe up to complain anyone ),
but anyway, given that this is the third recommend I’ve gotten about this manufacturer in general it’s time to dig deeper. If I’m not mistaken, they bought out whatever the fuck that company was that made the world’s best .22 pistol for decades as well.
Thanks again.
Gotta finish getting everything together on my belt fed machine gun before I get into the .50 cal realm. And damn do I wish I had a spare 11 grand for a flamethrower….
March 18th, 2008 at 4:47 amPat
“whatever the fuck that company was” WAS High Standard. Originally they were out of Connecticut but the company founder (or his family at least - I think) sold out to their distributer. He bought their dies, tooling and everything then moved the company down here in the early 90’s. While I think the lowers are DPMS that they brand and stamp as High Standard, the uppers and barrels are all their’s. And of course that’s where the rubber meets the road. I haven’t shopped around recently, but when I got it, it was the only 1 in 9 barrel I could find that wasn’t an over priced competition rifle. An fyi though, if you can’t get a hold of either surplus or Olin M855 (62gr. penetrators) you will be disappointed. First time I shot it was with some crappy over the counter 55 gr. stuff and I wasn’t too impressed; the bigger round with the combat powder load made all the difference though.
March 18th, 2008 at 5:04 amErik -
Yeah, I knew I was making a big association with them and the world’s best .22 for some reason. Plus I’ve been working for 23 hours straight now, and am about to try to sneak in two hours sleep before another mammoth day of site and post-production, blah, blah, things are tough all over. I get away with a lot of shit like I’m invincible. Anyway, after that pointless digression I should note that at a frickin $943 for their top-of-the line AR-15 backed up by that review where the dude tried every which way to jam the damn thing, and it shot as accurately as it did, it’s a bit of a temptation. Can’t wait to fire the compact 1911 now, too. It’s funny, like the review said, there seems to be a new Ar-15 manufacturer every week, and given my inexperience with several brands, I feel like there’s a lot I want to check out. But again, 950 bucks…with a rack…
Last question: what’s the best damn 308 semi-auto to get outside of a FAL?
Also, would most agree that with Colt your paying the few extra hundred bucks for the name much more than greater quality?
March 18th, 2008 at 5:34 amPat-
I was with 2/2 out of Lejeune. We used to be based out of the Northern Train Station, and also an apartment complex we took over on the North edge of the city where we’d run our patrols out of. Also spent some time in Karmah, Zaidon and Nassar Wa Sallam on that deployment too. Good times
March 18th, 2008 at 7:19 amPat - I’ve been working with a friend who owns a gun shop here in town. He used to have custom AR’s built at his place. But he is a long time gun shop owner, and is big on the Stag Arms. He used their parts to build his custom guns.
He has also mentioned the flood of business, due to fears of the next administration.
March 18th, 2008 at 10:57 amPat
If you have the money and are looking to spend a bit for an AK, the Bulgarians make a pretty good one. There is also an American company that is making them, but I forget the name. I saw samples of both a few years ago, and the one thing that impressed me is that both were built on one piece milled receivers; instead of the normal stamped sheet metal receiver.
Furthermore according to Robert Dunlap of the American Gunsmithing Institute, the best production AKs are of Finnish manufacture. Mr. Dunlap is a pretty talented gunsmith so I will take his word. I have never seen one from Finland, so I cannot offer a personal opinion.
Oh, and before I forget. Here is an address that you should have bookmarked if you do not already.

March 18th, 2008 at 5:32 pmIf you want a great .308 go M1A from springfield it’s the way to go, at least in California,
If you can’t go full auto… go springfield .308 because you can’t keep your head up for more than 10 well place rounds anyway. If you really really needed to use it.

I only have one 1911 it’s Les baer, “tr special” sweeeet, actually one of their cheaper ones, there is a great difference in 1911’s and performance www.lesbaer.com it will not choke… or spend 600 bucks on a glock they don’t seem to choke.
