Mohammed Bomb-Head Cartoonist To Sue Geert Wilders
In the wake of the release of Geert Wilders’ anti-Koran film, it appears that the cartoonist who drew the Mohammed Bomb-Head (that’s what Louie calls it) wants to keep Wilders from using his cartoon.
I got news for Westergaard, that cartoon of his has been reprinted about 69 million times around the world, and “Fitna” has had over 10 million hits worldwide off of LiveLeak, You Tube, and about a million blogs.
That means the thing is truly Viral and there is no way in hell any kind of regulation/blockage/lawsuit or whatever, is going to stop this film. It is everywhere, and at this rate, will end up being one of the most viral videos of all-time.
Can’t enforce copyright on a viral video, it’s like trying to ban drugs.
The Danish cartoonist Kurt Westergaard, who produced a controversial drawing of the Prophet Mohammed wearing a turban shaped like a bomb, has said that he plans to use all legal means to block the use of his cartoon in the anti-Koran film produced by Dutch right-wing politician Geert Wilders (photo).
In an interview with Danish radio on Friday, Westergaard said that he believes that the use of his cartoon at the beginning and end of Wilders’ controversial film is illegal. Reports say that it is not clear if a lawsuit will be filed in Denmark or the Netherlands.
Wilders’ 17-minute film entitled Fitna, which criticises Islam’s holy book, the Koran, was posted on a video-sharing website on the Internet late on Thursday. The film sets verses of the Koran against a background of images from terrorist attacks.
Westergaard first published the cartoons in the Danish newspaper Jyllands Posten in September 2005. The drawing led to worldwide protests by Muslims at the time and a boycott of Danish goods.
The cartoonist’s whereabouts are unknown and he’s been under police protection since receiving death threats for producing the cartoon. He has distanced himself from the content of Wilders’ film.
On Friday, the European Union presidency, currently held by Slovenia, released a statement supporting the move by the Dutch government to denounce Wilders’ film.
The statement said that freedom of expression “should be exercised in the spirit of respect for religious faiths and other beliefs and convictions”.
“Reciprocal tolerance and respect are universal values that we have to respect,” it said adding that the film by Wilders “has no other scope but to stoke hatred.”

Dude… it was on the Internet. There’s no controlling it now. Just ask the millions of performing artists, whose music, I’ve heard, has been shared using P2P technology potentially illegally (I’ve heard, of course, I wouldn’t know)….
On top of that, he’s prolly just scared some Islamo-wacko is going to off him because of his infidel cartoon.
Too bad. If he didn’t want people to use it, he shouldn’t've published it.
March 28th, 2008 at 10:26 amThe childish act that is played right at this moment, I’m so ashamed to be Dutch.
Some reactions:
- Fitna is reviewed as not being Oscar-fitted.
- Geert Wilders has “stolen/not payed” for scenes taken from news-bulletins
- Ministers of government didn’t see the movie because they had to go into an emergency-debate last night
- Prime-minister Balkenende still shouts “wolf” about Dutchmen abroad being in harms way and Dutch military in Afghanistan in more danger.
- Muslims (still) insist on “this is not the way Islam realy is”.
- Seems half of the country will start a law-suit against Wilders comming monday.
Pffffff, any one got a green-card for me and a rental-basement?
Oh, and a box of matches so I can burn my Dutch pass?
March 28th, 2008 at 11:31 amTo Jeanet—
My husband right now is sooooo angry—Of course primarily of reaction of the Dutch government–That is why we left the Netherlands (Breda) Luckily I am American so getting here was easy!!!
Balkendende is creating a big hoopla over absolutely nothing. When th Imans tell him to jump he asks how high.
Isn’t there supposed to be a grote Mosque in Amsterdam ready to be built? From what I understand it will be built—or else!!!
P.S. Need a sponser???? I think we are related—somehow….
March 28th, 2008 at 3:24 pmMuslims could do no less than show us how Islam ACTUALLY is, rather than whining about our portrayal of it. Sorry to say but our portrayal based on the torrential flood of violence which Islam has produced make it rather hard to imagine anything else.
