Scottsdale Bouncer Punching Out Customer Zooms Up As YouTube Smash
Phoenix ABC TV:
The bouncer suspected of punching a customer in the face at a popular Scottsdale bar on Saturday turned himself in on Monday.
The bouncer, identified as 26-year-old Matthew Capane, turned himself into officers at the Civic Center Jail on Monday.
The fight occurred at Dos Gringos in Old Town and was caught on home video.
The video was then posted on the popular video sharing site, YouTube.com.
The 18-second clip has quickly become one of the most watched on YouTube over the past 24 hours.
Police charged 26-year-old Jeffrey Fleenor, a bouncer at Dos Gringos, with assault and 26-year-old Brendan Bank with disorderly conduct.
A third, unidentified person was also charged with disorderly conduct.
The video shows the bouncer punching a customer in the face, knocking him to the ground.
Fleenor denied throwing the punch but did admit to being charged with a crime by police.
Brian Roehrich, owner of Dos Gringos, said two men provoked the bouncer by claiming to be professional fighters and making threats of violence.
However, several people had different opinions about the incident.
“It appears the security guard overreacted instead of handling it calmly and throwing him out.” said Justin Marcon of Chandler.
“I’d have to say the bartender had a right to do it,” countered Robert Cook of Scottsdale. “The drunk was likely causing chaos and something had to be done.”
“I thought the guy was trying to break it up, his hands were at his side, and the guy hit him,” said Freddie Black of Scottsdale. “It was ridiculous.”
“If he was doing his job, I feel it was justified,” admitted Anne Hulverson.
“From what you see on the video, it was a punch, but the victim refused any medical treatment so there were no serious medical effects from the fight,” said Officer Dave Pubins of the Scottsdale Police Department.
Capane was cited for one count of Assault and released.

March 18th, 2008 at 5:52 amactually if you notice, the guy does infact raise his hands before he was knocked out, whether it was in an attempt to block or actually take a swing could be up for debate.
