Wow, you know it’s interesting, I spent a month studying abroad in The Netherlands and it’s very interesting to see the two reactions of the two people. Here, sex is not some thing people are very open about [ in general, I’m not talking about porn stars, spring breakers, college student and the like ] and prostitution is very taboo.
In the Netherlands, it is very open and out there and their whole attitude is that it will happen regardless, so why not provide a place for the women to handle their business, in the open and without shame, if it is something they would like to do, then it is their choice. The Dutch would see a news report like this and think ” thats stupid, why would they create such frenzy over one woman trying to make some money and why would they waste the time of law enforcement over one woman?
I am in no way advocating what she did or that we try and adopt this or any practice from the Netherlands really. It wouldn’t work, Der Nederlunds is a very small place and therefore the amount of prostitution is also small, just very visible, if prostitution was de-criminalized to the same extent here, then that shit would probably just get way out of hand.
On a lighter note, if you ever get a chance to go to Amsterdam…. fucking do it, great town and lots of fun LOTS
and it’s not even just the red-light district, it’s really just a great place to visit.
