BAGHDAD (AP) - American and Iraqi troops killed 38 militants in the fiercest clashes with militants in weeks in Baghdad, including 22 who attacked a military checkpoint in a Shiite militia stronghold, the U.S. military said Monday.
Suspected Shiite extremists, apparently taking advantage of a sandstorm that blanketed the capital, attacked several checkpoints and hammered the U.S.-protected Green Zone in the fiercest salvo in weeks on Sunday. The sandstorm had grounded the American aircraft that normally prowl for launching teams.
Attacks continued Monday morning as insurgents lobbed more rockets or mortar shells toward the Green Zone, which houses the U.S. embassy and much of the Iraqi government on the west side of the Tigris River, benefiting from continued limited visibility that gave cover to the launching teams. Alarms could be heard and the public address system in the area warned residents to take cover and stay away from windows.
The U.S. Embassy on Monday confirmed the area was hit by indirect fire, the military’s term for rocket or mortar attacks, and said there were “no reports of serious injury or deaths at this time.”
The fighting escalated as anti-U.S. cleric Muqtada al-Sadr, rejected terms set by the Iraqi government for lifting a crackdown against his Mahdi Army militia.
The clashes Sunday were concentrated in Sadr City, the stronghold of the Mahdi Army, where U.S. soldiers used Abrams main battle tanks to repel the attackers.

He’s doing a Q&A and either dodging the question or attacking it. Asked about his patriotism, or lack thereof, he says he served and Cheney didn’t. Stay classy, pastor.
Every word I hear from him increases my desire to piss on his grave.
One thing that might have been unintentionally illuminating was when he said that slaveowners, i.e. all white people, don’t worship the same God as slaves, i.e. all black people.
He keeps going on about reconciliation, which, as near as I can tell, means white people, whether or not they or their ancestors owned slaves, give all their money to black people, whether or not they or their ancestors were slaves.
Lovely, now he’s going on about America waging biological warfare on her own people.

When all this started, I asked a few black acquaintances if this guy was normal in the black church. They were horrified at the prospect of white people thinking that Wright was representative of their religious leaders.

He more or less insulted whites who have no ancestors that owned slaves, were abolitionists and who supporeted civil rights all along. It’s to late for obama to disconnect from him and rightfully so. One lady at lunch had a good point, she wondered when Wright will fire the congregation up and then pass out AK’s on their way out.

Every time they launch more rounds at the Green Zone, it’s an invitation and casus belli to secure more of the city. Since the insurgents don’t seem to be under his control, I’m wondering if he is the wrong guy we think is in charge there.

They’re no more than 2-bit thugs like Hamas and Hezbollah with no intentions of nationalism, just insurrection with the goal of keeping things unstable enough to facilitate Iran’s move-in once we move-out. Of course, anyone with half a brain and an understanding of history and the ME knows that will cause WW4 because Iran won’t be able to with hold itself from attacking Sunnis which the Saudi’s et. al. won’t accept, so all hell will break loose.

I thought you did well. And no you didn’t talk to much. What I thought was cool about the show was hearing the site, patdollard.com in person, in real time. I really liked the parts about the reality of Iraq from a first hand perspective, instead of the filtered bullshit of the main stream media. And also getting the updates on YA. This site is a little like crack, I’ve got some soldiers, and civi’s addicted to it.
And yeh, I laughed because no one cursed until bash called in and droped the first fuck out there… Those bitches at dailykooks don’t have a blogtalk…
I know, I just don’t like THOSE PEOPLE!
