April 6th, 2008 at 10:37 amInteresting,my father was on one of those warships that were doing the early shore bombardment.(CA-25) A heavy Cruiser with 8 inch guns,ran low on ammo due to some previous action and left before the actual invasion started to re-supply. The Pacific was too dangerous at that time to be low on ammunition in case of unexpected encounters with the enemy.

Also interesting,and tragic was the tremendous loss of life on both sides in such a short period of time.
