April 3rd, 2008 at 4:40 pmI hear you on that, I’ve had my eye on one for a while, but I’m debating the whole quantity over quality issue….. Do I buy say a yugo AK and find a reasonable AR or do I grab an M1A and just make it my baby…… decisions……..
.50 Cal, 30.06, .308, Priceless
April 3rd, 2008 at 4:43 pmCould’ve sworn I saw both the M-14 and an M1 in those pics.
April 3rd, 2008 at 5:07 pmYou can pick up an M14 for two grand. Beautiful “match” rifle BTW.

I currently have 2 M1A’s (an SAI Loaded and SOCOM 16) and am building 3 more, 2 Armscorp receivers, 1 LRB.
I have shot AR’s, AK’s, SKS’s etc and nothing compares with the love a an m14 type and the 7.62 x 51 can deliver.
The SOCOM is a 16″ barreled model (that most say is good to 300M) and I can reliably hit a 3ft gong at 600M with iron sights and crappy 70’s Indian surplus M80 ammo all day long.
Yes the AR will do it as well, but with nowhere near the punch. And as far as the AK goes, not to start any kind of pissing match, they just weren’t made for that kind of range.
Yes the M14 types are expensive, but they are well worth the money.
Just consider it a long term investment!
April 3rd, 2008 at 5:10 pmWhat’s the hardware shown at 2:12 and 2:15 on the time counter? ? they look very lethal!

April 3rd, 2008 at 5:36 pmthose would be Barrett M107 Special Application Scoped Rifle- probably the most bad ass rifle ever made. shoots a .50 cal projectile over 1.5 miles accurately. Some Canadian sniper holds the record for a 1.5+mile shot made in afghanistan a few years back with one of those things. Here’s a good video of it in action:

April 3rd, 2008 at 6:31 pmOh no, I’m more than well aware of the capabilities of the platform I’m just trying to think ahead, what with the election and all, and decide if I want to try and stock up on as many weapons that I can get my hands on [ thanks pat….] or do I want to grab something thing nice….. I really would like a LRB, I’ve heard of their quality.

My Dad always raved about the M14 and now I see where he was coming from. I shot a friends M1A last week, dead on at 250 yds first shot with Irons….that is a nice piece of hardware.
I was looking at AKs as well but couldn’t bring myself to buy a piece of stamped metal (though the Yugo is tempting). I was really looking for something that shot cheap ammo so I went for a M&P15R Upper that will shoot 5.45×39 cheap 11 to 15 cent ammo.
April 3rd, 2008 at 6:54 pmPrecision death is a lifetime calling.

April 3rd, 2008 at 7:11 pmI was reading deep thoughts yesterday and noticed you said you get lots of depth threats, I am guess via email and phone. But if you could start posting the emails in a new section or something, I think it would be fuckin hilarious! Just a thought.

Yeah, I’ve put a bunch of rounds through some and I really like ‘em, I was looking at a scout model with a synthetic stock and was walking in to buy it……. and it was gone! I almost fell to the floor twitching right then and there! It broke my heart man haven’t really looked at one since…. only because thats the model I’m after, the scout with a synthetic stock, I’ve seen a few for sale around, but there all ultra national super duper match whatever, and people are just trying to make money on ‘em.
Even though the AK’s are stamped metal, I still would like to have another to just put away and literally never touch, just let it appreciate.
Let us know what s up with that 5.45 upper, I saw those and kinda had to take a second look to make sure I wasn’t seeing things….. head scratcher…..
April 3rd, 2008 at 7:25 pmJimmyB
The 5.45 M&P should be in this month, we’ll see how it goes and I let you know.

I can put you in touch with a dealer who has one with a black synthetic stock if you are having trouble locating one local to you…he has damn good prices too!
April 3rd, 2008 at 7:48 pmOn another note I am looking at adding a DSA FAL to my collection. I want their Congo model with the 18″ barrel.
