April 18th, 2008 at 1:17 pmDude…
The worst car chasing, ass biting dog doesn’t deserve that fate. I hope that truck driver is nailed to the wall..
Prayers for this mans family…
April 18th, 2008 at 1:48 pmjust wow
OMG!!!
I’ll have nightmares now …
DAMN! I hope he died right quick …
Imagine being one of those other drivers in the following cars that saw it first hand … Oh, MAN!
April 18th, 2008 at 2:17 pmWOW! when he locked up the brakes he turned that dude into road pizza. im sure he was dead before then but holy hell!
April 18th, 2008 at 2:54 pmYes, that was nothing short of graphic and I do feel bad for the family of the guy on the scooter. On the other hand, what the guy on the scooter did was breath-takingly stupid.
If you watch the video carefully, you see that the scooter starts out on the right side of the truck’s cab. He is trying to pass the truck on the right side of the road - where you’d think there’d be a shoulder - but in this case, there is none.
At least in the US, passing cars on the right side is illegal to begin with. Then we see the scooter pass around and in front of the truck’s cab with just inches to spare. Then, either because the scooter slowed down to take the curve in the road or because the truck sped up to belatedly prevent the scooter from passing, the poor scooter-guy got squashed.
Although this probably took place in China, this should be a lesson to the rest of us drivers. Remember, trucks don’t stop on a dime, passing on the right is stupid (and in this case, fatal), remember to leave a buffer space before you merge back into your lane (make sure you can see TWO of the truck’s headlights in the rear-view mirror), and maintain your speed to leave space.
I feel for the humanity of the situation but I get the strong feeling that the scooter guy was being a complete asshole. At least in the US, the trucker would have had a helluva time getting through that and many truckers would have been tempted to keep going. With that in mind, its a sign of the trucker’s humanity that he at least stopped quickly to check on the guy. I know…him stopping quickly actually made it worse by smearing the guy all over the pavement…but I’m pretty sure the guy was in the truck’s blind spot and for all the driver could tell, the guy was 10 yards back, not under the wheels.
April 18th, 2008 at 2:59 pmthe truck driver couldnt have seen him.
April 18th, 2008 at 3:11 pmMy sister lived in Japan for two years (she’s in the navy) and when I visited her I was just amazed at how the scooters just weave in and out of traffic like it’s no big deal. I was sure I’d see something like this while I was there. Luckily I didn’t. I mean…damn. What a fucking way to go. I feel bad for his family. Having to hear about something as gruesome as this happening to someone you love…wow.
April 18th, 2008 at 4:26 pmI pity the poor broke-dick truck driver that had to climb down out of the cab to check on the puddle of mush with an arm that he ran over.
April 18th, 2008 at 5:21 pmDenghis (ibm al Himar), your correct, pity him.
My sister was the financial controller for a garbage company when one of their drivers was backing down a Culs-de-sac (dead end st.) and ran over a 2 y.o. boy who ran out to see the big green truck.
The kid’s Mom came running out from the house screaming, the driver realized what had happened and literally froze from shock.
The boy went to the morgue. The driver went to the psych. ward for 72 hrs…then on to a mental hospital…from there, I don’t know, but his life was destroyed.
April 18th, 2008 at 8:37 pmHoly Toledo. Man, that is screwed up.
April 18th, 2008 at 10:03 pmA lesson for all. Pay attention and slow down.
Truck driver was way too close, way to careless and if I was related to that scooter driver I’d make sure he paid dearly for that carelessness. Obviously the scooter driver was not driving defensively enough. That is a nightmare of an intersection. G.d bless the poor guy.
April 19th, 2008 at 3:25 amThis is actually kinda what happened to my German professor over the Summer in Berlin. He was walking between stopped traffic and a truck just ran over him because the traffic started moving again. He didn’t die (titanium hip ftw), but we needed a new teacher after that. :/
April 19th, 2008 at 8:19 amDamn. That was graphic. What’s a manslaughter charge in China? Death or the gulag?
You feel for the scooter driver’s family. I’ve seen several motor bike accidents…not as bad as this one…but bad enough for me to stay the hell away from buying one.
I always give motor bikes plenty of room to maneuver, since they can stop much quicker than I can. If the driver of the truck had observed that simple rule, there might not have been an accident.
April 19th, 2008 at 1:07 pmScooter Splatter! 10 points!
