30 Taliban Militants Killed In Afghanistan
KABUL - At least 30 Taliban fighters, including their commander, and three Afghan soldiers were killed in clashes in southwestern Afghanistan, an official said Thursday.
The fighting began after Afghan troops came under attack from a compound in the Bala Bluk district of Farah Province late Wednesday, Younus Rasouli, deputy provincial governor, said.
NATO air support was called in and 30 militants were killed after the warplanes bombed the area, he said, adding three Afghan soldiers were also killed and five others wounded.
A high-ranking Taliban commander was also among the dead, he said.
Saido Jan, a member of Farah’s provincial council, however, said several civilians were also killed in the NATO bombardment.
Meanwhile, a suicide attacker rammed an explosives-packed vehicle into an International Security Assistance Force convoy in eastern Kabul on Thursday morning, a witness said. There was no immediate report of casualties.
