The US has given Israel the green light for a large-scale Israeli operation in the Gaza Strip, Lebanese newspaper Al-Akhbar claimed Saturday.

The paper quoted unnamed diplomats who said Washington had authorized the move after Defense Minister Ehud Barak presented US officials with documents attesting to the increased arming of Hamas and Islamic Jihad operatives in the Strip.

The paper further stated that Barak and Prime Minister Ehud Olmert had met several times recently to discuss the prospect of an operation and make a final decision on the issue. It claimed that Israel’s hesitancy was due to fears that such an action would hurt negotiations with the Palestinian Authority.

The IDF doesn’t need US permission to protect Israeli citizens. Jeez, when are the Israelis going to get rid of that weasel Ohmert. Grow a set already. Get Bibi back in there.

yeah i totally agree, as it should be, Israel does not need our permission to protect its citizens. They are a sovereign country and should have the right to protect itself from any threat.

Pretty sure this is just disinformation ops to create linkage between what Hezb is doing in Lebanon and great Israeli/American bogeyman. At the least it is trying to shape the information battlefield in advance of a Hezb move.

Who cares if it is disinformation? There is and never has been anything close to a ‘Palestinian Authority’.
Kill the fucks. It’s long overdue.

Geez. Talk about a never-ending cycle. When is one side going to go full-scale and wrap this crap up?

I’m not trying to be insensitive in light of a lot of death and destruction. I just don’t understand the point of Israel’s incursions, then pathetic retributions from the other side, then another incursion and so on….

It doesn’t seem to me that the way to long-term peace lies in calculated, small-scale offensives — for either side.
