Rice has taken a lot of heat from a lot of conservatives who should have known better (and a lot of apologists for Israel's conduct during the 2006 war who <i>really</i> should have known better) for attempting to open up a dialogue with Iran. That the Iranians spurned her attempts showed their true intent. What's necessary, however, is for Iran to make the first overt hostile act. Pre-emption is out, thanks to the luckless and incompetent CIA. No one will believe Iran has WMD until the mushroom cloud is forming over Tel Aviv. So, the Iranians have to do something stupid. They are quite capable of that, as we have seen in the past.
