So, I’m hearing that a gas tax holiday will only shave about 16 cents off the price per gallon.

Woopty-Friggin’-Doo!

Voters Split on Gas Tax Holiday, but Concerned About Tax Hikes

Forty-six percent (46%) of America’s Likely Voters favor a federal gas tax holiday this summer. A Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey found that 42% are opposed and 12% are not sure.

Most voters who earn more than $75,000 a year oppose the gas tax holiday. Most who make less than $60,000 a year favor that policy change. Among those make less than $20,000 a year, 62% favor the gas tax holiday while only 11% are opposed.

Women favor the gas tax holiday by a 53% to 35% margin. Men are opposed by a 50% to 39% margin.

The survey also found that 37% of voters believe the federal government needs more tax revenue to fund important national programs such as highway repairs and health care reform. Forty-six percent (46%) disagree.

Democrats, by a 46% to 35% margin, say that new revenue is needed. Republicans, by a 59% to 27% margin, disagree. Among voters not affiliated with either major party, 34% believe more the government needs more revenue while 50% disagree.

From an ideological perspective, 52% of liberals say that more revenue is needed. Sixty-five percent (65%) of conservatives say it is not.

Investors, by a 50% to 36% margin, say that the government does not need additional revenue. Non-investors are more evenly divided.

Fifty-six percent (56%) of all voters are at least somewhat worried that the next President will raise taxes too much and harm the economy. That figure includes 77% of Republicans, 59% of unaffiliated voters, and 39% of Democrats. Most Democrats (56%) are not worried about taxes being raised too much.

At the other end of the spectrum, 43% are at least somewhat worried that the next President will cut taxes so much that it will harm important government programs. Most Democrats, 57%, are worried that the next President will cut taxes too much. That concern is shared by 41% of unaffiliated voters and 26% of Republicans.

When it comes to a more intense opinion, 27% are Very Worried that the next President will raise taxes too much. Just 12% are Very Worried that the next President will cut taxes too much.

An earlier survey found that 65% of Americans oppose a hike in the capital gains tax. Fifty-two percent (52%) believe that such a tax hike would harm the economy.

Fifty-eight percent (58%) correctly identified Barack Obama as the Presidential candidate who is opposed to the gas tax holiday.

how about a big FUCK YOU MCCAIN!

Take that fucking bullshit grade school political stunt and jam it up your ass.

Just keep the fucking money, buy some more munitions to kill islamic radicals.

Open up all possible US oil fields to exploration and exploitation NOW.

Bunch of fucking bullshit, like those damn stimulus checks. If over taxation is so damaging to the economy then let us keep our money in the first place.

  3. Dan (The Infidel)

No. Get off your asses Congress and approve drilling our own resources. For thirty years you pinheads have been skirting the issue of getting off of foreign oil. Quit f*cking around and do your damned jobs. We need refineries, more coal-fired plants (scrubber technology is there but expensive), more nuke power, wind power, etc.

How come in Scotland it costs 2.88 per gal of gas? Know why? CAUSE THEY DRILL THEIR OWN OIL!!! Dumb f*cks.

  4. Kurt(the infidel)

    Im against it! completely.

this is nothing but a half assed attempt to band aid the problem that keeps getting worse. we’re letting the Saudis and OPEC screw us while our congress does absolutely nothing. worthless bastards. gas here in southwest Ohio hit 3.79 a gallon today for regular.

Drill ANWR. open all fields and start the damn drilling immediately before we’re all fuc*ed.

To Hell with a gas tax holiday! I say take those profiteering bastards at Exxon and beat their asses and put ‘em under the jail. I am all for free trade and getting a fair price for your product but what these clowns are making off our asses is obscene. If this ain’t a monopoly then the Robber Barons were all saints.

This isn’t rocket science. Instead of nationalizing health care, they aught to nationalize oil refinement.

  6. Jeff

    Yes.

We don’t need no stinking tax. We can put Code Pink to work rebuilding the bridges and highways since they seem to have so much extra time on their hands.

    Besides -
Jeff  poor college student. Every penny counts.

  7. Steve in NC

how is exxon profiteering? are they increasing margins?

  8. pibcak

Anytime, I have the opportunity to keep more of my own earnings and spend them the way I want. I’ll take it, even if it is only worth a couple pitchers of beer a week. It’s the principle. Besides, I like to drink beer.

We definitely need to increase our own domestic energy supplies of oil and nuclear. This will have a more stabilizing effect on the world market and calm the irrational fears of Wall Street.

  9. Steve in NC

    pibcak
Beer money? Damn, maybe I was a not seeing the big picture.

What Jeff and pibcak said plus….

“Among those make less than $20,000 a year, 62% favor the gas tax holiday while only 11% are opposed.”

    So yes.

All of the above + a diesel card for truckers that allows them fuel tax free (state and fed, should add up to about .75/) until this problem is solved. Because the cost of everything transported spiraling out of control will take the nation with it so put the emphasis where it’s needed. Isn’t it amazing what tax breaks can do for an economy.

Typical inane response from a dysfunctional parent to a totally fucked up kid who needs an ass whippin, if not more.
Damn people elect these simpletons, what does one expect.
The answer–next time you meet one of these no drill POS, kill them.

  13. Cridhe Saorsa

It is not just a drilling problem, it is a refining problem. We need to add to our refining infrastructure. The NIMBY crowd has most of the blame in this area.

I would like to know if our refineries are producing only for the US or if they are shipping out of country? Just curious.

  14. Charles

    Gas tax “holiday”? Absolutely.

Democrats think “new revenue is needed…”!?? Are they fuk’n kidding!???

The scoundrels in DC and the various state capitals are out of control; they should be FORCED to cut SPENDING. Cutting taxes is NOT the problem…spending is. They already take far too much money…and for what!?? Seriously, what do we have to show for their profligate spending. Think about it.

Teddy Forstmann said it best: “What does it mean when Republicans and Democrats alike warn us about all the “pain” involved in cutting government spending– they’re spending less of our money? Painful for whom? Maybe it’s painful for the politicians. But for the average citizen, what pain is there involved in his keeping more of his money? No government has ever borne the cost of anything. Taxes cost people. Tax cuts do not cost government.”

I don’t think it should be a “holiday”…it should be permanent.

  15. Goodbye Natalie

Why doesn’t our feckless Congress take a long, hard look at the real culprits in this runup? How about we take some traders and speculators who are about as corrupt as the day is long? And while they’re at it, why don’t they pull their heads out of their ass long enough to start thinking about strengthening the dollar.

And I’ll bet you money assholes like George Soros and some of his rich Guido pals have their hands dirty too. A good caning would be a start.

  16. Kufir Ken

Sounds like the same election year shit that Gore tried to pull by opening the strategic reserves. “Look how much I care about the everyman!”… Didn’t do a damn thing.

If a picture is worth a thousand words…then a Michael Ramirez cartoon is a veritable treatise: http://www.ibdeditorials.com/CartoonPopUp.aspx?id=294611710282805

  18. Vehement

I’m in favor of anything that puts money back in my pocket. Who gives a shit if it’s political pandering, atleast I get something out of it. McCain already admitted it was a short term solution.

  19. Charles

:arrow:Cridhe Saorsa “…I say take those profiteering bastards at Exxon and beat their asses and put ‘em under the jail…” “Instead of nationalizing health care, they aught to nationalize oil refinement.”

You’re either a marxist or an idiot…or both,(which is why I like the term ‘leftard’)

For every $1 in profit Exxon makes, it pays $3 in taxes. See here: http://mjperry.blogspot.com/2008/05/exxon-paid-almost-3-in-taxes-for-every.html

And, coincidentally enough, Exxon just paid the highest taxes EVER PAID by a U.S. corporation. See here: http://mjperry.blogspot.com/2008/05/more-on-exxons-record-tax-payment.html

Government doesn’t produce a fuk’n thing…so why is it allowed to MAKE MONEY on the price of oil while we suffer at the pump???

The oil companies don’t set the price of oil, world markets set the price and because there’s an artificial shortage, CREATED BY TOO MUCH government, and specifically democrat, interference,(regulation)…we’re paying way too high prices for oil and gas.

Don’t like the price at the pump?

Then ask why: dems won’t allow drilling in ANWR…dems won’t allow drilling offshore…dems won’t allow development of oil-shale…dems won’t allow the construction of new refineries, (about 150 operating today vs. 350+ 30 years ago)…and finally, why dems won’t allow construction of nuke plants?

Respond now.
