I think one of THE worse things I’ve ever seen was Youngstown, Ohio native Dave Dravecky (lefty pitcher) who was playing for the San Fran Giants … Had made a comeback after massive surgery and treatment on his cancer-riddled pitching arm …
In a career ending final pitch his humerus bone snapped loudly (you could hear it over the TV) … and he was done. I believe the momentum from the pitch and the force of the break and the pain took him straight down to the ground on the mound.
I don’t know what felt worse … Your stomach upset by the sight of it … or your heart breaking at the sight of it, and just knowing that was it for him … and it wasn’t gonna be good news at the hospital.
Lost his arm to the cancer a little while later …
A GOOD man.
May 7th, 2008 at 3:46 pmHad a guy in my gym rip his quad loose doing squats. The bulk of the muscle on the front of his thigh was in a ball near his groin. I’ve never heard a grown man scream like that before or since. It seems that the amount of juice he was doing also boosted his screaming ability. It was actually really scary for the rest of us at the time, the way he was thrashing.
May 7th, 2008 at 5:55 pmThink maybe this guy sacrificed sunlight and calcium for too much “juice” and gym? I saw an article a few years back that said ricketts is on the rise in kids because parents are dropping real milk/vitamin d for soy, and are keeping or allowing kids to stay indoors away from that terrible solar radiation.

Yeah, sad but courageous story about Dravecky.
I wonder how much this guy was trying to lift? The max on the bench is 1,010 Pounds. Quite a load. If anyone wants to watch it on youtube type in Rychlak 1010 pound bench.
May 7th, 2008 at 7:53 pmReeminds me of Clint Eastwood, in the movie “Thunderbolt ans Lightfoot”…”A man got to know his limitations.”
