Previous “Deep Thoughts”

5:03 A.M.

This weekend brings an extremely heavy edit weekend, which I point out because things are finally coming to a close with the new re-designed election version of Young Americans. Given that everything was in place for this to hour on Showtime literally next month ( after twice being delayed for strike considerations ) I should be highly depressed that the Hollywood shuffle cost me so much delay and a giant hole in my tattered wallet, somehow I’m eeerily calm due to an instinctinve feeling that things are actually happening the way they were supposed to, no matter how many expectations about release date were shattered leaving all of us quite frustrated and angry. God’s plan kind of thing. And to all my cynical and atheist friends who roll their eyes at that kind of shit, you try having bombs go off under your ass, being pullled off helos that crash at the last minute, jump into vehicles while bullets are hitting the door, ad nauseum, and not have the feeling that maybe something’s helping you out through all this. Not because I’m special or “chosen” or something else self-centered, just that a story and history like this is something God might want to protect. I’m just a tool. Ask anybody.

5:28 A.M.

Don’t be tellin’ me Dollards can’t be counted on.

News note sent from Dan The Infidel:

Profiles of valor: USMC Cpl. Dollard

In June 2007, U.S. Marine Corps Corporal Ian Dollard was on patrol with his team in Saqlawiyah, Iraq, when they encountered a jihadi ambush. One Marine was hit by enemy fire in the first attack, and then the platoon commander, 1st Lt. Paul Brisker, was hit by a second attack from another position. Dollard quickly put his life on the line using his body to shield Brisker from further fire while he administered first aid. In the process, his armor was hit twice, but he pressed on, dragging Brisker more than 25 yards to a Humvee. However, as Dollard approached the vehicle, he was hit in the leg. He ignored his injury, making sure the platoon was supported on their way out and back to their operating base. Only then did he tell his Staff Sgt. , “Oh, by the way, I got shot too.” Brisker eventually made a full recovery, and we’re proud to report that Cpl. Dollard was awarded the Silver Star.

I must say, Saqlawiyah sounds like an Indian princess or a small town in Canada. I’ll look him up, see if we can feature something on him here.

5:37 A.M.

Once again, if you missed my appearance on the Right Wing Queen of Blog Talk Radio’s Media Lizzy’s show yesterday, you can catch it here. We go over a lot, including the Hussein/Rezko bribe.

7:02 A.M.

O’Reilly meets Ron Burgundy.

8:44 A.M

You know, given that Olbermann is not only a jerk, but such a tediously predictable one, as well as one without any ratings, I’m starting to wonder why all get so hot and bothered about him, as opposed to just occasionally amused by him. Sometimes I wonder if all of us on the right blogosphere are doing more to help this choad’s career than anyone.

8:56 A.M.

First of all, I don’t tell any of this shit for sympathy, just to keep everyone updated.

They fucked up the results of the last MRI. I got back some shit that belonged to some old man with a head even bigger than mine.
So I’m going back tomorrow at 4:30. Now the reason I’m so interested in this, is because as you’ve all probably heard a million times, almost everyone over there who got their bell rung hard enough by IEDs has had some neurological damage, and two weeks ago, when I was off the site a bit and killing myself I also had two more TIA’s, temporary ischemic attacks, more commonly known as “mini strokes”. As alarming as that sounds it ain’t that bad in that no blood vessels break and cause permanent damage as in a real stroke, it’s usually just some form of blockage, or in the case of blast concussion victims, little bubbles of gas. On the actually alarming front, huge, huge numbers of TIA victims end up getting the real thing in months or years. The thing about getting hit with big IEDs there, is that they can cause ( and I don’t understand this entirely) little gas bubbles to form in your brain, that can go off at any time in future, striking you dead or disabled.

In other words,

we carry the IEDs home with us

in our brains.

And I ain’t talkin memory.

Just so everyone knows, I’m not a big PTSD guy. Not saying it doesn’t exist, I’m just saying that I was determined to go over fully knowing I was going to see horror and feel terror, and likely to get wounded, yet come back stronger for it, not come back whining about “Oh the horror, I’m damaged, I can’t cope.” Fuck that. We’re all different, and there are those who saw and lost much more than me, so I’m not taking anything from them. I’m just saying we all take different shit out of these experiences for a million different reasons, and if only by sheer force of willpower, I was coming back stronger, better equipped to handle any challenge, horror, terror threat. I like that I’m edgy, on guard, ready. If I got PTSD, I like it. At least my version of it.

12:27 P.M.

Update from the Green Zone:

My friends there have told me that the indirect fire has dropped dramatically over the last week. “Sporadic at best” is probably the best summary quote I got.

What did Time Mag say? “Al Sadr wins another round”? Doesn’t winning usually means your enemy lays down his arms, not you?

And lastly, as far as the AP’s report that “1,000″ rounds hit the green zone in the last month, every source there, and I’m talking even non-military friends without an agenda unanimously said “Way exaggerated” on the polite end to “bullshit, lying motherfuckers” on the less polite end.

6:17 P.M.

Sorry for the delay guys, I’ve been posting here, but also cooking up some trouble with Right Hand Girl and Welsh. Let’s see how do I drop a hint without giving away too much information. Okay: Expect to see us at the DNC. With a little before and a little after.

Hey Pat, what is the name of the movie the clip above is from? I want to rent it at blockbuster. I love westerns! Thanks!

  2. Pat Dollard

    Corey

It’s an HBO series called “Deadwood”. The show is primarily a look at the truth of human nature, because it’s set in a town without laws, so instead of behaving out of fear of punishment, people behave as they really are, and because everyone can be like that, you have to survive solely by your wits and ruthlessness. Deadwood was the first tv series in history to legitimately hit the level of Shakespeare without the old English tedium suffered by a modern audience.

Here’s how the “Deadwood” fan phenemenon works. You watch the firs two episodes, and you’re like, okay this is alright, but what’s the big deal, this is just a one gimmick show where you have cowboys cussing, and then by the end of the third episode everything has become clearer, and you’re hooked like a crack addict. You can rent the seasons. Unfortunately, the third and last season was still good, but just didn’t “bring it” like they did in the first two, probably because everyone knew the ship was sinkingl

Ultimately, to me, and I say this without hyperbole, “Deadwood” was the best series in the history of television. If anyone disagrees, I’d like to hear what you think is better.

When I was in Ramadi, I had two forms of entertainment available to me. The complete “O.C” and the complete “Deadwood”. I connected with it especially, because I was in a modern “Deadwood”

Can I tell you weird it was coming back covered in blood and watching the happy shiny “O.C.”?

    It’s the HBO Series Deadwood.

  4. Baley

Rescue Me comes close - I know it’s a big ol’ head-bob to the FDNY but Leary does a good job of writing some beleivable characters.

Too bad Deadwood bit the dust - there was a lot of potential for more story lines.

  5. Bash

    Pat…

I rarely comment here, but I have to agree with you on “Deadwood” it is a great…HOWEVER…

I personally think “Twin Peaks” was the greatest series ever to air on TV…

But of course, could there be any other series that grabs me more than a David Lynch masterpiece?

Long live Federal Bereau of Investigation Special Agent Dale Cooper…the greatest fictional character ever created.

    vs

Bob…the most disgusting villain since the devil himself.

    :gun:

“They got a cherry pie there…that’ll kill ya!”

  6. JadedSage

    Pat,

I often quote Deadwood, usually without the cussing, since I teach High School. World War II is my favorite movie genre so Deadwood and Band of Brothers are neck and neck. The interesting thing is as a kid I hated Westerns. I have come around a little since then and Deadwood has a lot to do with it.

David Lynch is a leftist anti-American values freak sensationalist with some good moments. Pretentious comes to mind. Although Eraserhead was a masterpiece. He made Twin Peaks to show America that Family Values and suburbia were dog shit - that the American Dream was a lie, window dressing on the true fetid state of humanity: we’re all perverts. Leftists need to believe that to validate themselves.

  8. dtodeen

Homicide was pretty good, and Rescue Me on FX. Now you are going to make me ebay Deadwood! Thanks!

  9. Steve in NC

Damn Pat, I’ll never look at the log lady the same again.

 Bash, I’m with ya on the twin peaks show. Two other shows that were short runs were Micheal Mann’s ‘Crime Story’ and Chris Carter’s ‘Millenium’.

    ……….

Re the olbermann, I am just blowing by him and his ilk, laying out stupid childish rants that would not challenge a junior high student. Another example of ignorant leftists was exposed on a Doocey interview this morning regarding the University of Colorado trying to get conservative professors on staff. Anyone see it?

  10. Evestay

I liked Deadwood a lot, but my favorite HBO show was Rome. The second to last episode of the first season is the best moment of TV ever (the gladiator scene).

  11. Kurt(the infidel)

    Deadwood is awesome!

Im hooked on the shield though. and this new show called DEA which is actually reality and it takes place in detroit. the best place ever for that show, lots of action. tons of SWAT style take downs.

  12. A. S. Wise- VA (Republican Space Ranger)

“Band of Brothers” still tops my HBO list. Can’t wait for the Pacific War miniseries!

  13. Molly

Hey Pat there was a segment on Fox yesterday about a debate as to whether or not suffering from PTSD constitutes getting a Purple Heart.

  14. drillanwr (hembra blanca típica)

I can’t put Deadwood and Band Of Brothers in the same catagory.

BOB was a limited run of 10 (11, counting the episode of the actual guys post-story to recount their thoughts) episodes. It stands alone.

Deadwood, I have found in my years of watching too much cocksucking TV, IS the best fucking show ever on TV, and thank the Underverse gods there was a venue such as HBO to run the fucker, since it would never have aired as is on regular TV … and would NOT have had the same effect as Pat stated above.

I often equate it to a modern day Shakespeare theater. I am completely fucking pissed HBO canned it …

 Pat summed it up pretty good. It really was a crack addiction to watch every week … and I’m itching here!

    Deadwood IS out on DVD.

Also, dtodeen, Homicide: Life On The Streets was the most fucking awesome regular TV show ever. It IS the standard by which all of today’s cop/crime shows SHOULD be measured … and many fail.

  15. littlefox

    PAT
“…come back whining about oh the horror I’m damaged, I can’t cope.” Dear God, PLEASE don’t say that.

I’ve had PTSD (not from combat) I was stalked by a psycho. I was afraid for my life in my own home for over a year. It took its toll on my physical body. I was an energetic Wife/Mom of 3 loving life in America before this happened. We left town and a YEAR later I collapsed, blood pressure 70/40.
I could not stand up. The depression comes because you feel worthless. Then satan comes (Yes he is alive and well and has a horrible plan for your life) tempting with suicide. It is the most AWFUL place to be. By the Grace of God, the love of my husband and help from a doctor I am back to roller-blading with my kids and scuba-diving with my man.

Try and understand that it is not a whining attitude. Many Vets won’t seek help because of that stigma.

  16. littlefox

    Pat
Also, I am sorry to hear about your injury and will be praying for your complete recovery. I really admire what you have done.

  17. littlefox

I sent a comment about PTSD before the last one …
    Where did go??????????

  18. littlefox

    What I said was:
Please don’t refer to PTSD as “whining I cant cope.” Ive had it and it is not like that at all. Mine was not combat induced, which I can imagine is the worst kind.
It manifests itself in physical symptoms. I collapsed. My BP was 70/40, I could not stand up.
I am better now thanks to the grace of God, the love of my husband and help from a doctor.
Too many Vets wont seek help because of the whining stigma attached to it.

  19. Pat Dollard

    Littlefox

Read my commentary carefully. I was speaking for my own experience, and made it clear that I wasn’t dismissing PTSD as fraudulent. Even the line you cite about whining was about me, what I didn’t want to say about myself, not about anyone else. It’s a sensitive issue and I’m not a doctor, which is why I didn’t pass judgement on it, and just gave you the thought processes that helped get me through with what I went through.

In fact allow me to quote myself: “We’re all different, and there are those who saw and lost much more than me, so I’m not taking anything from them. I’m just saying we all take different shit out of these experiences for a million different reasons’

If you want to criticize what I say, that’s fine, but it’s obviously not right to criticize what you imagine I say.

And thank you very much for your prayers, and I hope you understand that this comment is just a clarification of the record, not a mean-spirited counter-attack.

Pat, sorry to hear about your ongoing medical problems. Hope your BP is under control????? I would imagine that it is the rapid, extreme change in air pressure caused by the blast that creates bubbles in the bloodstream, but I’m curious about that… must look into it.

Thanks for the heads up on Deadwood. I will definitely check it out at blockbuster.

I also look forward to adding “Young Americans” to my DVD collection when it comes out.

Speaking of being addicted to crack I think I have the same addiction to patdollard.com

I can not sit in front of a computer without opening a browser to see the latest posts.

I don’t leave the house in the morning until I have read all the new posts and watch the new videos.

I am happy to say its an addiction I have no desire to give up.

I have a dear friend who started out as a coaching client of mine who did two tours as a Marine in Iraq. He retired at the end of 2006.

He saw a lot of action, killed some jihadi’s, and saw good friends get killed that had families and kids and came back wondering what the fuck? He came back without a scratch while people all around him got hit or killed.

He went over there looking at the world one way and came back trying to make sense of it all. His model of the world was totally rocked and destroyed. He did not know what to believe in anymore.

He’s doing a lot better and will be moving to Orlando next month. My friends and I are renting a kick ass house with him and we are gonna get him laid like a rock star! He paid his dues and now its time to party!

How could I let him suffer when I have the ability to help? A few weeks ago he told me he’d walk thru fire for me and I told him he already had. For the rest of his life he has nothing to prove to anybody.

The hardest thing for him was talking about it. He was scared everyone would think he is a monster for what he did so he keeps it all inside.

Dr Wayne Dyer said something that I really love. He said “a friend is someone to whom you can speak aloud.”

The greatest therapy for a vet is to talk to someone who will listen and be non-judgmental and most importantly let them know that what they did was ok.

Not only was it ok but it was their duty which we are all grateful they performed and performed well.

NO VET SHOULD EVER BE MADE TO FEEL THAT WHAT THEY DO IN COMBAT WAS ANYTHING OTHER THAN WHAT WAS EXPECTED OF THEM! I mean we ask them to fight for us, they do their duty, and then they gotta come back to assholes like Harry Reid who try to make them feel ashamed of being a soldier? Ashamed of killing the bad guys? Nothing makes my blood boil more than shit like that.

They should round up the whole town of Berkley and drop them in Waziristan for a little vacation. That will change their paradigm.

God bless every one of our troops. They are the real Americans as far as I am concerned. I’m just a guy who enjoys all the freedoms guys like him provide.

I wish more people would take the time to just say thanks to these great Americans. They are our National Treasure!

    I love them all!

Being a RSR is a frame of mind: the wish to kick all enemies, foreign and domestic, RIGHT IN THE ASS! :) However, joining the Young Republicans is a good start. I was my high school’s Young Republicans (aka “young fascists” to the dems) Vice Chairman during my senior year (2004-2005), and we had the last laugh in the election! However, my community is largely republican-leaning, so we had little challenge getting support.

This election will be different, being on a large college campus, full of Obama’s groupies in-waiting…
