Previous “Deep Thoughts”
5:58 A.M.
Yesterday was supposed to involve a few hours travelling which ended up unravelling into MANY hours travelling. So sorry’s for the be behinds, and although I technically could’ve done the show by cell phone from an airport, I was like….that’s a little gay or desperate or something ( plus I only had one bar of power ) so Welsh is setting up the make-up date.
And dudes, I think I need a fuckin’ vacation. But just not in the cards. And I remember some old broad I used to work with, and she was always like “I’ve never taken not ONE DAY’s vacation in 25 years.”, and I think “Big fat fucking pussy” whenever I start to feel sorry enough for myself to want to go on vacation.

From Mark Steyn:
The Spell Is Broken
Four score and seven years ago … No, wait, my mistake. Two score and seven or eight days ago, Barack Obama gave the greatest speech since the Gettysburg Address, or FDR’s First Inaugural, or JFK’s religion speech, or (if like Garry Wills in The New York Review Of Books, you find those comparisons drearily obvious) Lincoln’s Cooper Union speech of 1860. And, of course, the Senator’s speech does share one quality with Cooper Union, Gettysburg, the FDR Inaugural, Henry V at Agincourt, Socrates’ Apology, etc: it’s history. He said, apropos the Reverend Jeremiah Wright, that “I could no more disown him than I can disown my white grandmother.” But last week he did disown him. So, great-speech-wise, it’s a bit like Churchill promising to fight them on the beaches and never surrender, and then surrendering a month and a half later, and on a beach he decided not to fight on.

May 5th, 2008 at 6:02 amTake time out for yourself Pat. We will still be here for ya. It’s so very important to recharge your battery and since you are such a high energy kind of guy (I can relate to it) it’s best to pause, relax, enjoy life and then get back into the mix. This world is insane and can drive even the most sane individuals over the edge. Have a few on us. I’ll buy!
May 5th, 2008 at 6:36 amthis is nuts!
Death toll from Myanmar cyclone skyrockets up to nearly 4,000, local media reports — country’s foreign minister says cyclone death toll could hit 10,000.

I had an excellent hibachi steak & chicken dinner last night, to give me an extra boost going into STATs at 7:45 this morning. I think it did the trick! It’ll be nice to drink again!
May 5th, 2008 at 6:54 amI’m the kind of person who thought I didn’t need vacations either, just a day here or there. Wrong way to think. Mostly because it means everybody around you assumes you are always going to be there, keeping it going, making it happen. But if you take time off, you help everybody else learn to cope without you when they have to deal with you not being there. So do it for everyone else if not for yourself (but you should really do it for you). And it helps with perspective, no one’s that indispensable, hardly anything is really all that imperative that it can’t wait a couple of weeks. (I don’t usually offer unsolicited advice to strangers but this is a problem I know a lot about).
May 5th, 2008 at 7:17 amPat,
YOU’RE BACK.
Now, don’t you dear to pull this “vanishing-act” on me again, will ya. It’s real bad for my health.
Okay, I forgive you. I even forgive you for not reading my e-mails any more.
Can I now go back to being a big fat bully again
May 5th, 2008 at 7:32 amFINALLY got my rifle and shotgun permit. As it was handed over, I was told that they just came out with new rules: only one weapon can be bought every 90 days and no magazine capacity greater than five rounds. That’s on top of all the other restrictions:
************
http://www.nyc.gov/html/nypd/downloads/pdf/permits/rifle_shotgun_permit_application_20080501.pdf
THE FOLLOWING IS THE DEFINITION OF AN ASSAULT WEAPON
(a) Any semiautomatic centerfire or rimfire rifle or semiautomatic shotgun which has one or more of the following features:
1. Folding or telescoping stock or no stock.
2. Pistol grip that protrudes conspicuously beneath the action of the weapon.
3. Bayonet mount.
4. Flash Suppressor or threaded barrel designed to accommodate a flash suppressor.
5. Barrel Shroud.
6. Grenade launcher.
7. Modifications of such features, or other features determined by rule of the Police Commissioner to be particularly suitable for military and not sporting purposes. In addition, the Police Commissioner may, in such rules, designate specific semiautomatic centerfire or rimfire rifles or semiautomatic shotguns, identified by make, model and/or manufacturer’s name, as within the definition of assault weapon, if the Police Commissioner determines that such weapons are particularly suitable for military and not sporting purposes.[I don’t remember the Second Amendment mentioning hunting - ttb]
(b) Any shotguns with a revolving cylinder magazine.
(c) Any part, or combination of parts, designed or intended to readily convert a file or shotgun into an assault weapon.
***********
You can tell that whoever came up with this doesn’t know shit about firearms. A while back I saw a clip, it may have been here, of Tucker Carlson asking some dumb cunt who wrote one of these laws what these features actually are. She didn’t have a clue.
I’m thinking a shotgun to start with. Any suggestions? Although I’m sure anything useful will be banned.
May 5th, 2008 at 8:28 amTictic,
An Ithaca 12guage shotgun, pump with a barrel a half inch over the minimum and pistol grip will fit your bill. With sling arms, it is all but concealed while walking as the barrel is lower than the shoulder blade, but considered in plain site (from the rear). I had a chromed one with black rubber grip some time back when I handeled till transport. Twice, all I had to do was drop the tills and port arms the weapon to defuse a bad situation.

May 5th, 2008 at 8:47 amEveryone needs a break. You take time to refresh and you come back doing better work with better mind set and new perspectives..
Run away Pat Run away!!
May 5th, 2008 at 11:10 amWell opened my copy of Grand Theft Auto IV, after seeing off some friends for the summer. Pretty damn impressive. What I love about all GTA games is the politically incorrect brand of tongue-in-cheek humor; this being the best yet. Glad I decided to get a PS3 with birthday $: between CoD 4 (AC-130U and sniper missions are so fucking awesome) & GTA 4, as well as bluray, it’s turning out to be a great investment!

Wow. Just the word “weapons permit” for basic guns. Was strange to me, ‘cos i don’t live in a state like that. Also, a fucking permit for a shotgun? wtf?

In New York City, the Bill of Rights does not exist. The city does whatever it wants.
The only thing we got going for us is that the city still follows Guiliani’s policy of actually arresting criminals and keeping them in jail as long as possible. If that brain dead dyke Quinn becomes mayor, I’m getting the fuck out. I lived through the Dinkins administration, and I have no desire to go through that shit again. I have enough scars.
May 6th, 2008 at 4:23 amTicTic and Pat,
Yeah, weapons permits sounds like a concealed permit maybe. In MT, only the concealed permit is all I know of besides the ususal registration of weapons on purchase. Here, the concealed permit is managed by the local county sheriffs so most applications are approved after a quick records check for phelony convictions.
The short shotgun is legal here, about an inch longer than the magazine tube and sure is nice to brandish when someone has a peashooter pistol close in..it’s amazing how fast an adversary’s risk calculation comes into play in such moments.

I’m sure they’ve added many more.
I’m not sure how many will find this odd, but many cops, at least around here, don’t actually know all that much about guns. I read an article by an instructor at LE training seminars. One of the first things he does is have the cops draw their weapons as is and fire. Many misfire or jam because they don’t take care of their sidearms properly.
