May 11th, 2008 at 2:31 amOf all the war movies I have seen this movie and HBO “Bands of Brothers” shows how War really is and very, very realistic historical accurate they made it. If I had the powers to be I would make every High School Juniors and Seniors watch “Saving Pvt Ryan” and “Band of Brothers” so they can appreciate our military and our Veterans.

May 11th, 2008 at 5:30 amWhat would Gen Patton say if he was alive today?
True story.
I’m working for the VT DMV down in White River Junction years ago and a guy walks in to renew his license. He’s getting on in his years and he’s got a patch on his jacket that says something (I can’t remember exactly what) about the division in which he served in WW2, but the patch says “Omaha Beach.”
My and my coworkers ask him if he was there.
Answer: Yes.
So I can’t resist asking him if he saw “Saving Private Ryan.”
Answer: Yes.
Question: So was the film an accurate depiction of what really happened, the kind of things you experienced?
Answer: No.
“There is no way what really happened that day could be captured on film and shown to decent people. It would be like dragging high school kids through Auschwitz at the peak of rush hour.”
Makes you think.
