U.S. Desperately Ramps Up Bin Laden Pursuit As Petraeus Says New 9-11 Hatched In Pakistan Is Coming Soon
Makes perfect sense. With their asses getting kicked all over the place, and with as many high-level guys as we have whacked with drones, about the only thing left for them to do to maintain their credibility beyond a slow and protracted campaign in Pakistan - and they ain’t been able to turn Afghanistan in their favor - is another hard-hitting and high profile attack on a Western target, most preferably the United States.

Asia Times:
KUNAR VALLEY, Afghanistan - Nearly seven years after invading Afghanistan to go after Osama bin Laden, the United States has stepped up its campaign to catch the al-Qaeda leader and his senior associates, including Ayman al-Zawahiri, who are believed to be in the rugged terrain spanning Bajaur Agency in Pakistan and the neighboring Afghan provinces of Kunar and Nooristan.
The US has increased surveillance operations through newly built bases in the region and additional daily flights of Predator drones scour the area for any suspicious characters who might lead the US to the world’s most wanted man.
The recent killing of leading al-Qaeda figures Sheikh Abu Soliman and Sheikh Osman in Damadolah, Bajaur Agency, by US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) drones was the result of the spy network’s stepped-up surveillance in this vital corridor. (See Ducking and diving under B-52s Asia Times Online, May 22, 2008, in which the news of the death of the two men was first reported.)
According to some reports, in the past few days, US security and military officials held a top-level summit at a military base in the Qatari capital of Doha to plan an operation to hunt for the al-Qaeda leader. General David Petraeus, the US commander in Iraq, and the US ambassador to Islamabad, Anne Petersen, were reported to have attended the summit.
Last week, Petraeus testified before a US Congressional committee about security in Iraq and warned that members of al-Qaeda based in Pakistan’s tribal areas have planned a new 9-11 attack that they expect to execute before the November elections.
The jihadis are inside every government agency. They have security clearances and access. It won’t be hard for them to cause some serious damage to us.
When the next 9-11 happens, don’t be surprised if it is a series of inside jobs.
Once again the US has failed to ID the enemy. Changing words around or trying to give them new meaning; ignors the very real threat that Islam poses to this country.
The govies need to get their heads out of their collective asses and stop sitting on their laurels. The game isn’t over until that fat jihadi sings.
May 29th, 2008 at 4:52 amI travel weekly and it’s hard for me not to notice the number of Middle Easterners working at the airports I pass through. I have long thought that the next attack would be carried out or assisted by people working at our airports.
May 29th, 2008 at 5:15 amI’m with you in this Dan. In order for success the enemy within is going to assist, along with lax control over our borders are going to be a contributing factor.
Just look that broad who was spying for Hezbollah got no jail time and a slap on the wrist.
Sad to say but it is going to take something of that nature to be stopped in its tracks in the last minute by law enforcement, or for another successful attack on American soil for most people to get with the program.
May 29th, 2008 at 6:07 amAppoint Obama to go to Pakistan and talk some sense into Al Queda…he is the Senator who Chairs the Afganistan Intelligence isn’t he?
May 29th, 2008 at 7:10 amWell, if there is another attack on our soil, and there is even the slightest wiff of inside assistance, then game on…I’m not threatening anyone, but I’m just sayin’, don’t be surprised if a few mosques, et al, are visted by a few 2nd amendment believing christian “infidels” who would urgently like to discuss some of the unusual “wacky ideas” that have been advanced by that satanic, repugnant, alleged, religion of “peace” in recent years…

May 29th, 2008 at 9:38 amThat’s how AQ established their government of choice in Spain - a dramatic attack right before national elections. Wouldn’t surprise me.
If such a thing were to happen, I wonder how it would play out in the elections. AQ would have clearly expressed a preference for Obama as president, but the dems would say that years of effort in Iraq and Afghanistan hadn’t prevented the attack. I know which of those things makes the most sense to me, but I wonder how they would play with the US public.
May 29th, 2008 at 12:06 pmGod forbid there is an attack.
May 29th, 2008 at 2:11 pmBut if there is, do you REALLY think the American people will want to elect a guy who talks about chit-chatting with our enemies?
No way.
They’ll want a guy from the military who will kick ass and take names later.
off the track a bit..here is a late memorial day tribute i have for a friend of pat dollard…
