F/A-18
June 4th, 2008 at 12:04 pmF/A-18 …
June 4th, 2008 at 12:26 pmF/A 18 alright. F-15s are air force and not too many have tailhooks. Scary as all heck though.
June 4th, 2008 at 1:56 pmThat was one fine controlled landing. No damage to other planes! Or People. to the Pilot.
No go change your flight suit!!!!
June 4th, 2008 at 2:32 pmBash, you shoulda known better. As has been noted, it’s a Hornet. I figure a F-15 pilot would rather take his chances ejecting than trying to land on a carrier.
Although I once heard of a C-130 making an emercency landing on a carrier.
June 4th, 2008 at 3:17 pmGood save on the F-18
And yes the largest aircraft ever landed on a carrier is a C-130.

June 4th, 2008 at 4:59 pmAs a former “Eagle Keeper” (USAF Maintenance puke on F-15’s) I can tell you ALL F-15’s have tail hooks and they are used for the same purpose as their Navy counterparts — barrier engagements — except we only do it in emergencies where as the Navy and USMC do it routinely.
June 4th, 2008 at 5:17 pmOMG, you’re right! I just looked one time typed furiously and was putting up posts…
I’m so ashamed…I’ll go kill a pig now…
Good catch.
June 4th, 2008 at 5:18 pmF-15s have tailhooks for emergency landings on runways, such as a brake failure - not for carrier landings. No F-15 has ever landed on a carrier. Not only would it probably never fly again due to structural damage, since they are not built to do it, F-15 pilots don’t train for carrier landings. Even if the jet could handle it, it is not part of their mission. As an F-18 pilot with 700 carrier landings and a few hours in an F-15, I can tell you that Eagle drivers appreciate the fact they don’t have to worrier about landing on the ship, especially at night.
