Mosul, Jun 19, (VOI)- A leader from the Qaeda-linked Islamic State in Iraq armed group was arrested on Thursday by Iraqi army forces in west of Mosul, an army source said.
“Iraqi army forces managed to arrest Hakim Marwan, the general commander of al-Qaeda’s Islamic State in Iraq, in al-Boursa neighborhood in west of Mosul,” the source, who asked to be unnamed, told Aswat al-Iraq - Voices of Iraq (VOI).
“The forces raided his house on a tip-off and arrested him without resistance,” he explained.
The self-styled Islamic State in Iraq, al-Qaeda-linked-armed group, was declared in October 2006 in the Sunni areas in Diala, Kirkuk and Mosul.
Mosul, the capital city of Ninewa, lies 405 km north of Baghdad.
Something I’ve been watching out for is the appearance of Iraqi cops and military turning up in pictures without concealing their faces. I figure that would be a good informal measure of their confidence, and I’ve noticed a fair number of pics like this one. On major operations, some of them still opt to conceal their faces, but it seems to be a bit less common than even a few months ago.
Maybe I’m nuts, but I’m going to keep watching. Nice to see the uncovered faces on these gents.
