Maliki Whipping Sunni-Shiite Clerics Into Alliance
Baghdad, Jun6, (VOI)-Iraqi PM Nouri al-Maliki on Friday said religious awareness would end “terrorism” in Iraq, applauding the role of Iraq clerics in fostering Shiite-Sunni ties.
“Religious awareness promoted by clerics and religion scholars would end terrorism”, a government statement, received by Aswat al-Iraq-Voices of Iraq(VOI), cited PM al-Maliki as saying in a meeting with a delegation from the Union of Iraqi Islamic Scholars.
The PM noted “the clerics educating correct juriprudence are the state backers in combating terrorism and outlaws”.
He stressed the importance of “fostering Sunni-Shiite alliance after ending sectraiamism”.
The Premier called for putting an adequate plan for “the return of the externally and internally displaced”, adding “convenient conditions must be provided for them to live together in one area regardless of their ethnicity or sect”.
He urged clerics to “promote peace and unity among people instead of violence, sectarianism and division”.
Al-Maliki highlighted “the government allocated funds for reconstructing the golden domes shirnes in Samarra after clearing its roads by security forces and cooperation of the district residents”.
Bombing of the golden domes shrines in Samarra Februaury 2006 unleashed Tseunami of sectraian killing and reprisal violence edging the country into the brink of civil war.
Reconstructing the shrines stands for unity and symbolizes convergence of the warring Iraqi factions.
