One Out Of Every Four New Yorkers Has Genital Herpes
Skank…
NEW YORK - A city Health Department study finds that more than a fourth of adult New Yorkers are infected with the virus that causes genital herpes.
The study, released Monday, says about 26 percent of New York City adults have genital herpes, compared to about 19 percent nationwide.
The department says genital herpes can double a person’s risk for contracting HIV.
Herpes can cause painful sores, but most people have no recognizable symptoms.
Among New Yorkers, the herpes rate is higher among women, black people and gay men.
The health department urges consistent use of condoms, and says its STD clinics offer free, confidential herpes testing.

June 9th, 2008 at 10:20 amYa know, every time I see a report on STDs, especially the race/gender/orientation statistics, I’m glad I was born a white straight male.
And that I have the sense to wear a rubber.

June 9th, 2008 at 11:03 amUgh, why must my state be so STD-ridden? Well, feels good to be one of the 75%.
June 9th, 2008 at 11:07 amsorry to inform you all about this but the if you have had the chicken pox then you have the herpes virus already in you. its basically all the same virus. this statistic should actually be higher then that. cold sores, shingles are also the herpes virus. so it really isnt that big of a deal.
June 9th, 2008 at 11:12 amI’d like to remind everybody here that Fred Thompson recommended this as well as saying that he looked forward to standing on the pier and waving goodbye as the UN sails away from New York….just need to rub it in every now and then.
June 9th, 2008 at 11:28 amSorry, that was meant for the “Human Rights Council” or whatever post.
June 9th, 2008 at 11:29 amParis Hilton looks great in that picture!!!
June 9th, 2008 at 11:31 amI don’t know who Dr. Brian is but cold sores, chicken pox and genital herpes are not all caused by the same strain of HSV. HSV I is predominately oral (coldsores) and HSV II is predominately genital. Their can be other areas infected but there is a vast difference between outbreaks of coldsores and genital sores.
Everyone who has had chicken pox has had an infection of HSV I and later in life this can make a reappearance as shingles. But to say that genital herpes are the same as coldsores and chicken pox is shall we say, less than accurate.
Once a person has been infected with genital herpes it is there for life. The only thing they can do is work to control the outbreaks, outbreaks of weeping open sores.
June 9th, 2008 at 2:07 pmNow you just have to ask yourself, do you want open weeping sores are on your genitals?
Hey guys, a word of warning. Genital Herpes can be contracted even if you are wearing a condom. All it usually takes is two moist areas rubbing together. Pretty soon we are going to have to have std cards that clear us for intercourse. Also look carefully at that which you are about to penetrate.
June 9th, 2008 at 3:25 pmI’m glad I am married with morals.
June 9th, 2008 at 4:08 pmAmen to that Marc!
June 9th, 2008 at 6:24 pmDr. Brian

Not unless you screwed the chicken. (different type of virus)
June 9th, 2008 at 7:46 pmI’ve been “parking my car in the same garage” for 15 years, which greatly reduces the risk…assuming, of course, my garage only services my car…
June 10th, 2008 at 6:26 amContinued good fortune to you Larry.
June 10th, 2008 at 8:35 amIf you only do it with hot girls you will be fine.
