The Album That Was 14 Years In The Making…

I guess we’ll find out if it was worth it or not soon enough…

NEW YORK - Nine purported “mastered, finished” tracks from Guns N’ Roses’ 14-years-in-the-making album “Chinese Democracy” have been leaked online by the Web site Antiquiet.com, prompting a quick cease-and-desist from the band’s handlers and the removal of the links.

Six of the songs have already leaked in one unfinished form or another: “Better,” “The Blues,” the title track, “Madagascar,” “IRS” and “There Was a Time.” But these versions appear to be much further along on the path toward completion, and feature new touches like organ and tambourine on “IRS” and a beefed-up chorus with multi-tracked vocals on “Madagascar.”

The three previously unheard songs are “Rhiad and the Bedouins,” “If the World” and a track whose title is unknown.

“Rhiad,” which was played live by Guns N’ Roses in 2001 and 2002, is a pounding rocker with a trademark down-and-dirty main guitar riff and a flashy solo. “If the World” is a head-spinning blend of flamenco guitar, industrial synth tones, bluesy piano licks and singer Axl Rose at the top of his vocal register, while the unnamed track is an even more unusual melange of piano-led crooning, orchestral bombast and a serene instrumental outtro.

“Chinese Democracy,” the follow-up to the 1991 “Use Your Illusion” albums, will likely go down as the album with the most troubled birth in rock history. Work began way back in 1994, and since then, Rose has burned through a reported $13 million in production costs as well as every original member of the group.

    Bash, I’m not starting a debate…LOL…just curious… #1 “G & R” or #2 “Metallica”.

    Who wins?

    #1 Mike…in my humble opinion

I’ve hoped for G & R to make music again. Looks like that hope is being fulfilled.

Accidental leaks? Oh Yeah, I buy that.

Some people need to know when to quit while the quiting is good.

Metallica is my favorite band and St. Anger fucking sucked. I bet the new album will suck too. Their earlier stuff is legendary and that is what they should stick to. The same applies to Guns ‘n roses, I bet the new shit blows.

And for the record “And Justice For All” is the greatest metal album of all time!

    Just my thoughts.

The way I approach music has always been weird. Was never a fan of either until both had pretty much faded away. I’m like that with most of my music.

I think Sweet Child O’Mine is one of the all-time great rock songs. But I have no respect for Axl. Slash has my utmost respect.

Was never a Metallica Fan with two exceptions, I loved “One” and the video that went with it, I saw that movie “Johnny Got His Gun” long before Metallica used it, and had forgotten it until I saw “One”…

I also love “Enter Sandman”…its Bash’s Theme Song for when I go on Chandler’s Watch Radio Show.

Other than that, I am not a Metallica music fan, but I watched a film called “Metallica:Some Kind of MOnster”…a dcoumentary on the band.

It was fucking great. I totally dig those guys, cool as hell. I would hang with them anytime. I highly recommend you watch that film. Its on DVD.

But to answer your question, from a musical standpoint, GnR, no question.

But I’ll take Zep over anybody any day of the week.

Metallica were Gods of rock, that GnR never ever equalled…..that is until estrogen injections caused them to become whiney and they started let that little bitch Lars become their spokes person…..my how the might have fallen……that said old school Metallica is the bar that other metal tries to live up to.
