True Beauty, Folks…Almost 1 Million People Respond To a USA Today Poll
The question is: “Does the Second Amendment give individuals the right to bear arms?” USA Today Poll question link and results inside…answer the poll question, then tell WHY you voted how you did.
Click here, answer the poll, and look at the results…then come back here and give your thoughts on this. The decision from the Supreme Court on this issue is expected to be made Tuesday or Wednesday, as Drill mentions here.
Nods to One Shot.
I obviously put my vote in for it being an individual right, because I look at this issue in context of the time when the 2nd Amendment was drafted. At that time, many individuals owned firearms…they had fought the British with them, they were used to deter the new government from stepping all over the common man, and they were of course used to hunt and provide home protection. Since this was the case at that time, I believe the second amendment simply set into eternal law that individual gun ownership would remain a right. If it were meant to apply in any other way, the amendment would have had to include language that would have forced the individuals of that time to disarm immediately. That didn’t happen. It is an individual right, and fuck anyone who wants to change it, cause it’s not happening.
June 23rd, 2008 at 4:44 pmYea!
The Bill of Rights was written to protect the rights of the people. One of those personal rights is the right to keep and bear arms.
Secondly the Kansas Bill of Rights states:
Sec. 4. The people have the right to bear arms for their defense and security; but standing armies, in time of peace, are dangerous to liberty, and shall not be tolerated, and the military shall be in strict subordination to the civil power.
Plain and simple I like and want guns, and I have the right to own as many of them as I want.
June 23rd, 2008 at 4:49 pmIMHO the phrase “the people” in the 2nd Amendment has got to mean the individual, if the SC says otherwise they’d be setting a precedent to challenge and interpret the rest of the Constitution.
Wherever it says “the people” it would only mean the collective population and never the individual.
Think about it…Roe v. Wade is supposedly a right of privacy…for an individual.
If DC gun law’s upheld, R v.W, is seriously threatened.
That’s why I think 2 or more Libs. on the SC will join the “Brains of the Outfit” and strike down the DC gun ban.
I know I’m a little crazy, but am I wrong?
Comments anyone?
Oh, and my vote…I take the whole “FROM MY COLD DEAD HANDS” thing pretty seriously
June 23rd, 2008 at 4:52 pmAwesome! 97% voted YES! Something tells me Obama won’t like it.
June 23rd, 2008 at 5:27 pmI believe it is an individual right of THE PEOPLE, but more importantly, the bill of rights, are not rights bestowed upon us from our government but intrinsic rights bestowed upon us by our creator, we are founding fathers were simply acknowledging rights that we not only had to start with but rights that can’t be taken away by man because it wasn’t “man” that bestowed the rights upon us in the first place.
The reason the 2nd amendment is so short is for that very reason, “We the People” have an intrinsic right to self defense and in order to to maintain that right and not become oppressed by any form of government we are to be armed, (something which was not allowed in Europe under their monarchies). I also believe that we have the intrinsic right to be armed equally and not in some deluded form as we have now.
They will never disarm America, only we ourselves can disarm ourselves. They do not have the resources or infrastructure to carry it out, though the socialists … whoops I meant Democrats probably have wet dreams of something along those lines.
Stay armed and well practiced, and lets get ready for a great upcoming Independence Day
June 23rd, 2008 at 5:27 pmThat was remarkable, I didn’t see that percentage coming.
June 23rd, 2008 at 5:35 pmMike,
June 23rd, 2008 at 5:41 pmThe “collective population” is made of individuals. All the “rights’ of the Bill of Rights are declared to be the rights of persons. Rights are not conferred by the Constitution but are PROTECTED by that document. Those rights of free men come from God.
that was very surprising! i voted yes of course because i do believe it does give individuals the right to bear arms. thats the way it was intended to be.
I just cant get over the fact that of over a million people polled randomly that 97% would say yes. apparently i was wrong about how a number of people in this country felt about the issue. glad to see that
June 23rd, 2008 at 6:36 pmWow, Ameicans believe in the 2nd amendment. I’m shocked!
June 23rd, 2008 at 6:44 pmI heard recently that a previous court decision involved the definition of “the people” in the 14th Amendment, and the court ruled it meant individuals, not states. One can only hope…..
June 23rd, 2008 at 6:48 pmFuck yeah! Have the No voters even read the damn constitution?
June 23rd, 2008 at 7:10 pmSteps to taking away my guns:
1. Kill me.
2. Take my guns.
There is no way to get to step 2 without properly executing step 1.
June 23rd, 2008 at 7:19 pm97%? FUCK YEAH!! I’ll bet the results of this poll will have the libs soiling their panties..
June 23rd, 2008 at 7:40 pmSCYankee
But will it cause a change of perspective and the vile anti-America news coverage of USA Today, et al before they go bankrupt?
I don’t think so…to much Kool-aid.
June 23rd, 2008 at 7:49 pm97% way funny or sad… If the SC goes south on this right, It’ll be proof positive that the elite have no regard for the constitutional republic that we stand for. And all talk about a democracy is all bull, unless of course, it goes their way in the polls then it’s real democracy, if the voters go the other way … Well then it’s just a bunch of gun toting rubes that don’t know what’s good fer Um.
June 23rd, 2008 at 8:08 pmI have a right to bear arms and damn it I don’t care who says it’s wrong. SCYankee damn right. I know a few who would in Washington who would.
June 23rd, 2008 at 8:15 pmHell yes!!!!
June 23rd, 2008 at 8:35 pmJune 23rd, 2008 at 9:04 pm
Right on!
And, the first amendment says I have the right to free speech…unless it offends a liberal.
June 23rd, 2008 at 9:17 pmholy right to bear arms batman! 97%! i was freaking shocked! shocked i say. that warmed the cockles of my heart.

June 23rd, 2008 at 10:43 pmThe Poll…
Tuesday 12:40 PDT
Still 97%
(12 pk.)
June 23rd, 2008 at 11:41 pmYes you may have my firearms……bullets first
June 24th, 2008 at 12:43 am97% for with over 700k votes…..hmmmmmm
June 24th, 2008 at 4:52 amconservative Democrats will throw Obama under the Bus if he tries that crap.
June 24th, 2008 at 5:51 amI didn’t expect to see 97% right leaning in ANY USA Today poll. Just goes to show ya that there are more gun-hugging, tree-shooting, God Blessing, beer-drinking, truck drivin’ Americans that are willing to protect themselves.
June 24th, 2008 at 6:29 amStill 97% at this time.
I don’t own a gun. I have never owned a gun since leaving the Corps in 1968. I live in an area where it hasn’t been necessary, nor have I felt the need to own a gun. I voted with the 97%. I don’t dislike or fear guns, I just haven’t felt the need for one. But that feeling is changing every day, when I see what’s going on in this country with “sharia creep” and appeasement of the muslim bottom feeders we let into this country. At some point, I think I or my offspring will need to “lock and load”. We also have a political party in this country that has removed all premise of being “democratic” and have now shown their naked ambitions to the world. They want totalitarian control over every aspect of our lives. Any libs out there reading this will know it ain’t the Republicans of which I speak.
The fascists will come at us from the democRat party, the party of Stalin, Trotsky, Alinsky, Clinton, Reid, Boxer, Pelosi, Feinstein, Durbin, Kennedy (Ted not Jack), and Barack HUSSEIN Obama. That ‘man’ is our worst nightmare. If the country is ready for a black president, why not Michael Steele. At least he has a brain.
June 24th, 2008 at 7:01 amOf Course I voted yes. If you read some of the Founding fathers letters and memoirs there intentions become very clear on a lot of issues.
“A government that fears an armed populace is a government to be feared” - Thomas Jefferson
I have little doubt that the USSC will rule it an individual right. But what is going to be interesting about this decision is whether a municipalitiy (city, county, state, federal) has the right to restrict the individual’s rights under the premise of greater good for society.
June 24th, 2008 at 8:02 amIf they interpreted the 2nd like the free press part of the first, we would be required to have guns and people would not be prosecuted for shooting government agents any more than they are for printing secret information in time of war.
Of course, if they interpreted the free press part of the first amendment like they interpret the freedom of religion part of the first amendment, it would be against the law to have school newspapers–they would violate the establishment clause
June 24th, 2008 at 8:10 am97%!!!!! HELLZ YEAH!! Barretts for everybody! But the MSM will say the survey has a 48% margin of error just to make things “fair.”
I’ll protect what’s mine no matter what - you invade my home and threaten me or those I care about and you’ll leave on a gurney.
June 24th, 2008 at 9:21 amI hate to burst everyone’s bubble, but remember that this is a poll. Poll’s are never an exact representation of the populace (see Kerry beats Bush exit polling, etc.). Now while I’m sure the margin of error is… 50% in our favor remember how easy online polls are to manipulate. Remember the Republican polls done by fox news after the debates, and Ron Paul WON? Vote spamming is very possible here to.
But I’m just going to be blissfully ignorant and say SUCK IT DEMS!!!
June 24th, 2008 at 9:24 amIts been documented that states where law abiding citizens are aloud to carry firearms, the crime rates are way down. Criminals are way more comfortable in states where they can be pretty sure that nobody will be firing back. That’s why they like opening fire on college campuses that have “No Firearms” policies. I may be stating the obvious, but the obvious seems to elude a lot of people these days.
June 24th, 2008 at 3:53 pmExcellent!!!
Still waiting for the high ruling on the DC handgun ban law being overturned. It should send a shock wave if all goes as it should.
June 24th, 2008 at 4:34 pmI bet that the USA Today and much of the media will have their knickers is a twist over the 97% figure. But then they and most of the Democrats are the Whiney Cry Baby Cowards of the Party of Defeat. They all want to be self appointed Dictators, from Obama, Hillary, Pelosi, Reid on down to the non smoking nazis. They want to tell us what we can/cannot do but don’t dare do the same to them.
Guns may be our only hope against these people.
